Thanks Collin! (via PM) Intel Little Valley I like it! http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/D201GLY/index.htm I am going to place wireshark on a computer, and see if I can capture the traffic from the DJs. I would not want them hacking in to a bank server, and then have the FBI knocking on the nightclubs doors!! All I need is a power supply, XP Pro, and then set it up with remote desk top connection. Now I have to figure out is how to get the WAP connected to the Little Valley.

There many "systems" that can do what you are asking. You can take stand alone systems, and blend them together using devices to create what you need. There are "all in one" packages where you do not ask what the price is. And you have some pretty decent priced systems available with many different "flavors". For a small project where you do not need full integration then I would recommend this: http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-ACC950_door_controller.html All you have to do is run power to the door strike, (or maglock), and you run power to the ACC950. All you need is a maglock, and the door is ready to go in short time. This is easy to hook up, and program. You can use an alarm switch on the door to trigger the DVR to record the camera that is trained at door. This would be for a rental car agency where they may only have 1 to 4 doors that they want to "control". This would be an employee back door, and the inside employee door. The lobby is open to customers. There is room for 2 more doors. You will need a DVR that has alarm inputs. If you need the following: Anti-pass back supported with ECL-ACC900/950/995 Auto diagnostic: No user intervention necessary Dynamic door assignment supported Emergency door release supported 2 Wiegand readers supported Scheduled door release supported Scheduled door arming supported 63 Time Zones 255 door groups 120 programmable holidays Request to exit supported Relay inputs: 4 (expandable to 16), 3A Relay outputs: 4 (expandable to 16), 3A Voltage: 9-24VDC variable auto detection Power: 2.5 watts Optional I/O expansion board available for 8 more door in/door out devices (ECL-1010). Then you will need this: http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-ACC1000_door_controller.html This is good for 16 doors, and 1000 users, and it is network ready. If you need a system that send out email alerts everytime someone goes through a door, and you want to email a snapshot of that person then you will need a panel that can support those features. The small systems are wired local to the door. Big systems are wired back to a home run. You are talking about a lot of wires from each door that have to be home run back to one spot!!

I do not know about your cameras as I have never installed them, or worked with them. Are your expectations too high? That is relative. If you told him about your expectations, and he did not deliver then he has not met your expectations. If you are learning as you go then you may be upping the ante as you go. Your installer has to know your security "threat" level, and what your budget is going to be, and he has to come up with a fair, and balanced design to meet both of these standards. How did he compare to two other bids? How did he compare to five other bids?
-
Were you able to get the Video Server E??? The ICRealtime? Oh Yes! It will knock your socks off viewing over the internet! I am wondering if you are using a flat panel lcd screen for your monitor? Are you able to use the test monitor to check your main monitor? Your installer did not install bullets! Very impressive!! I like this guy allready. He installed varifocal lenses!!! Wow! This guy is awesome!! He is a good "thinker", and it looks like he knows the "devils is in the details", and he likes to cover his details with a fine tooth comb!! Have you tried changing the settings on the lenses to your cameras? Where are you located? I was going to say Turkey, but I have a feeling that I am way off!

In the stand alone building I will have the ISP modem then I have the Linksys WRT54G3G. This gives me the fail over, and the fail back with the ISP, and the cellular internet connection where I may use Sprint. From here I have a cat 5 to the next building, and here I plug in to a FS108P Netgear switch, and then use the Netgear WG102 Access Point with dual SSID. Am I ready to go? Anyone else have an opinion?

Wow! I really do not know where to start! There are some issues that you have that could have been avoided at the system design stage, and some that could have been resolved at the installation stage. You did not say which exact DVR model you have. You seem to be in need of the Video Serve E, and the ftp site is down. You are free to download the from here. Just scroll down till you see it, and then click on it to download. Video Server S is available for older DVRs as well. You can download a manual if you need one as well. http://scorpiontheater.com/cpcamtechsupport.aspx The video over the lan, and over the internet is going to look really crappy. This is a DVR that is meant for the DIY, or for a entry level priced project where the customer does not want to buy a $3000.00 DVR that has a jet fighter navigation screen to set it up. Enty level residential customers do not have T1 internet connections, and they probably just came off of dial up, and have internet "light", rather than regular speed, or business class speed. It looks this way so that the DVR is not sucking up a lot of bandwidth. As for your other problems: I would have to be physically on site to render a true opinion of your problems, but I can give you a guess, and I can play devil's advocate to see what we can come up with. So far so good! I do not go by the specs of the camera. I pretest them, and what I see is what I get. Let me close my eyes, and read your mind so that I can see what kind of cameras you have. HEY! YOU HAVE TO CLOSE YOUR EYES TOO!! Ok! I see a picture now. OH! You have bullet cameras!! How did I do??? I see, um, I see, ohhhh, yes, that's it! You have wide angle lenses!! Now, how am I doing?? Your bullet cameras have what 3.5mm, or 4mm lenses? Right?? Wide angle cameras are designed to pull in the peripheral left, and the peripheral right so that you can see everything in one view. There is a trade off with this lense selection. To create this "wide angle effect" we have to create a distortion. Anything at a distance is going to appear farther away in the video then what you see in reality. With wide angle cameras anything past 20 feet is going to be a waste. Why do you want to read the sticker? Why do you want to read a T shirt? I know I am sounding condescending, and I do not mean too. I am trying to teach myself how you want this system to perform. The more I ask, the more I learn, the better the help that I can provide to you. Perhaps we should change out the cameras to 6mm bullets? Maybe you need megapixal cameras to give you the obcene amount of detail that is required for your system! This is quite common!!!! You are not using the setup monitor as your main monitor. The monitor that you are using may be the culprit, but then again I am only guessing! Can you take the setup monitor, and hook it up to the DVR? You should see what you saw at the camera. It is ok if you do lose a little, tiny bit around the edges. Now is the setup monitor giving you the better view, and the main monitor needs to be adjusted?? If you are loosing alot around the edges then you have something more then I am aware of. Can you reorient the camera to bring it back in to the monitor view. OH! You say you loose something on the other side of the screen? HMMM! Lets mount a varifocal camera instead this way we can tweak the lens to match the environment where the camera needs to be mounted. http://www.icrealtime.com/solutions/dvrfxr30.asp Is this the first time you have installed this DVR? Are you an installer? Did you pretest the DVR before you put it in to your catalog, and set it out for display? OH! You are an end user? How did you make this DVR selection? Where did you buy it? Who provides the tech support? How did you test this DVR before you bought it? How much bandwidth are the two DVRs sucking up? Are your POS systems connected to the internet also, or are they connected to your LAN?? Let's see what we can do to get you squared away!

Let me see if I have this right. In the small stand alone building which is the front office I need to start with the ISP modem, and then I need to hook up to router (or should I say switch?) that gives me VLAN where the ports cannot "see" each other. From router #1 (or is that switch #1?), I need to have two cat 5s that go in to the main building that terminates in the nightclub office. Now I have two paths. One that is for the POS system, and anything hooked up to it can see the POS. A second one that connects to the internet, and cannot access the POS system. I then attach a WAP for the DJs to have wireless connectivity. VST_MAN What device are you using for cellular connection? i do not want to use a cellphone for internet connectivity. I am more interetsted in the first router (or should I say switch) having this capability built in. I am also interested in something that can roll over, and roll back automatically from the ISP to the cellular EVDO connection. Question: If I have one access point with dual SSID then how do I keep the DJs from accessing the pos if I did not run two cat 5s to the club office? On an entry level system can I access the routers, and switches remotely?

http://scorpiontheater.com/SPYGADGETS.aspx Here is another link if you want to see what a Spy Store looks like. On the bottom right there is a video montage, and you can barely see me in two pictures just before the monkey (covert cam) picture. Click on the speaker icon on the bottom to listen to the music. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=242876517 Please note that I am no longer with the Spy Source Warehouse, as I have dissolved this business relationship. The next storefront is overdue on its grand opening, and I am stuck in limbo for time being without a storefront. The stock consist of a wide variety of CCTV equipment, spy gadgets, burglar alarm equipment, card access, and we carried wiring for video, voice, and data, and we have DIY items, can safes such as hairspray, shaving cream ect. There are spy toys for kids, and there are black light pens, and hand held black lights, and there are child protection devices. Our X-10 stuff took off like wild fire when radio shack quit stocking them in their stores. Notice how the "SPY" theme is carried with 007 movie posters, and other spy movie memorabilia. I was offered an obcene amount of money for a hidden digital camera disguised as a lighter with the James Bond 007 logo on it from one of the Movie Promotions. I have seen this same lighter on EBAY for $500.00! Now in hindsight I wish I had bought tractor trailer load of them!! I will be willing to provide information to anyone that wants to open their own business at cctvguru@hotmail.com Here is my first free advice! Here is a free website to start your business! Click on my sig for an example of the free Micro Soft website. http://smallbusiness.officelive.com/ This maybe of interest to some: http://workspace.officelive.com/ Now you can build yourself a free website, and a Myspace page!

Thanks for the Linksys info! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WRT54G http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1175238289895&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=898 Thanks for the Netgear info! http://www.netgear.com/Products/Switches/DesktopSwitches/FS108P.aspx http://www.netgear.com/Products/APsWirelessControllers/AccessPoints/WG102.aspx SSID: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSID There will be no public access provide. This is an adult cabaret. They do want the DJs to be able to access the internet wirelessly, and WEP is fine for that. They do not want the DJs to be able to "see" the POS system. They are a little paranoid when it comes to the POS stations. The POS are on static IPs, and the addresses are router addresses, (for example: 192.168.1.4, 192.168.1.5, ect) The WAP (wireless access point) for the office may, or may not be seperated from the POS (point of sale, or "cash register"). I am not sure as of yet. I can alway set it up, and make changes later if needed. Thanks for the heads up! I will have to check with the provider about this! What is it that you are using for a timer for the reset? I did not know if you were talking about a timer that plugs in to the wall, and then the router is plugged in to the timer, and this is how it get turned off, and turned back on, and resetting the router in the process. What timer are you using? I do not want to bring in a network guru. I just want to provide the componets myself, and maintain it myself. I will be setting up a Dedicated Micros 16 channel DVR to the internet. This will be set up in the separate building which is the front office. This is where the ISP modem is located. I need to set up some computers here also. What do I use here? I think they have a simple Linksys router in there now, and then a cat 5 goes in to the main building to the secondary office. What will I put here so that I can plug in 4 POS, and two WAPs.

If you have lots of extra business cash then you can afford to stock items on your shelf. If you are tight on cash then keep just a little on hand. For example if you are tight on cash you can keep one 4 channel DVR, one 8 channel DVR, and you can keep four bullet cameras for the 4 channel, and eight bullet cameras for the 8 channel, twelve box cameras, twelve of a type of lens (wide angle) ect, ect. Now you can order just in time to restock what you just used. If you have a longer wait due to lets say ordering from California in my case, then you may need to carry an extra item, or set to match your daily sales. If you are selling one 4 channel DVR everyday then you will want to stock a minimum of five 4 channel DVRs, perhaps maybe six units incase of the weekend, holiday, or you order was after "2pm", and your shipment will not go out until the next business day! This is where a showroom can become a tool. You will want to have two sets of customers. One that is entry level, and that is a walk in type traffic, and the other is where you are going out and getting jobs, whether you are cold contacting, or getting the higher end jobs from advertising. The enty level customers may not spend as much, but you can turn over a lot of items, and this will pay for your storefront overhead. Now when you get a high end client you can bring them in to your showroom by appointment when no customers will be around if you want some quiet time, or you can bring them in during the showroom's business hours if you prefer. Now if you have lots of cash you can buy 100 4 channel DVRs, and you can get a really good discount!! Now you can make more profit. The question is: How fast can you sell 4 channel DVRs? You do not want to hang on to 4 channel DVRs for more than one year as the models may change, or the price may drop, and then you are stuck! I would not have a DVR sit on a shelf for more than 3 months, maybe 6 months if you want to stretch it. Now your showroom becomes your stock room! You are turning over products to the DO IT YOURSELF CROWD, and if on a project you need a different camera then what was on the bid, then no problem! Just go to the shelf, and get what you need!! WHAT CAN I SELL FOR QUICK SELL ITEMS?? Small hand held audio recorders. This is bought by many people for many reasons. Cheating boyfriend/girlfriend/ or spouse. Employee is lying, and you are about to loose your job. Babysitter that you have bad suspicions. Sales people who bait, and switch. Contract negotiation. It is not illegal to sell them. How you use them is what determines what is illegal. Guns are not illegal, it is how you shoot it that makes it so. Know your state laws, and you will be OK. You can also sell bug detectors. People need to know that they are not the target of snooping. This will be bought by those going through a divorce, business people who have problems with a partner, or the crazys who think the world is out to get them. You can also sell camera detectors. This device will find a covert camera in 1 second flat!! This can be marketed to women who go to gyms, female bathrooms (bars, restaurant), tanning salons, or dressing rooms, or you can market them to the going through a divorce crowd, or to the paranoid!! Private Detectives are a good source for customers! These are items that turn over very rapidly! With 4 camera entry level systems, and other CCTV items your showroom should do pretty good!! You can carry other "security devices" such as drive way alerts, and inexpensive all in one motion detectors that chime, or alarm when someone walks past them, and you can carry those items that will secure windows, doors, or sliding glass doors. For some odd reason there is someone coming in to my shop everyday looking for burglar alarm window contacts! I sell these hand over fist! Apparantly there is no where to buy them retail. You can carry walkie talkies, or binoculars. Pepper Spray is a quick sell!! You can carry other Spy Shop Items if you wanted to! What do you think?

Now I get to ask the questions!!! What is a VLAN?? Here is what I found on a search..... http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst2900xl_3500xl/catalyst1900_2820/version8.00.03/scg/02vlans.html#wp8371 A VLAN is a switched network that is logically segmented by functions, project teams, or applications without regard to the physical location of users. For example, several end stations might be grouped as a department, such as engineering or accounting. When the end stations are physically located close to one another, you can group them into a LAN segment. If any of the end stations are in different buildings (not the same physical LAN segment), you can then group them into a VLAN. You can assign each switch port to a VLAN. Ports in a VLAN share broadcast traffic. Ports that do not belong to that VLAN do not share the broadcast traffic. Ports from multiple Catalyst 2820 and Catalyst 1900 switches can be members of the same VLAN. shows an example of VLANs that span multiple switches and multiple floors or a building. As I have never done this can a Linksys router do this, and have a cellular back up, or what entry level product can perform this??? Thanks!

I would put my name on AVTechs in the right budget class, or in the right environment. I would put my name on the ICRealtime, and their other products as well with no question asked!! You can contact ICRealtime, and they can set you up with a download, and then get you a user name, and password to view some of the cameras, and PTZ. I was really impressed the first time I viewed the videos.
