    avc760 runs hot

I would have to agree with Kiwi. The more you can do to add "cooling" to your DVR the better. I have noticed that most 4 channel DVRs run the same as a car in first gear on the interstate! In some cases I have added heatsinks, and/or fans to DVRs. It tortures me to see where people have put their DVRs on top of their stack of entertainment gear. I love to watch a DVR "bake" on top of an receiver/amplifier!! I have "torched" a DVR once. I placed it in a hidden niche built in to a wall on the back part of a pantry. It was hidden behind the wall with paper towel, and other food staples on the shelves. I had set it on it side. I thought the fans were towards the upside, when in fact I set the DVR directly on to the fans. POOF! OOOPS! Faux Pax!

    Hotel DVR Recommendations?

In that case I will let the cat live! OHIO!! The weather is great here in Florida!! I do not envy those in the colder regions! In some cases it would not surprise me if there was something on the books where only certified alarm dealers are allowed to install CCTV. It is not to stop someone from installing them it is more about politics, and protecting your "turf", or to keep electrical installers from coming into their piece of the "money pie", or to get rid of the "fly by night installers" who create more problems, and give the industry a black eye. It could be a "city" that wants you to appy for a building permit so that they get a piece of the money pie. Just my 2 Cents

  7. Would you care to update this old humor?? http://interweavers.com/brett/humor/os-as-beer.html If Operating Systems Were Beers! DOS Beer Requires you to use your own can opener, and requires you to read the directions carefully before opening the can. Originally only came in an 8-oz. can, but now comes in a 16-oz. can. However, the can is divided into 8 compartments of 2 oz. each, which have to be accessed separately. Soon to be discontinued, although a lot of people are going to keep drinking it after it's no longer available. Mac Beer At first, came only a 16-oz. can, but now comes in a 32-oz. can. Considered by many to be a "light" beer. All the cans look identical. When you take one from the fridge, it opens itself. The ingredients list is not on the can. If you call to ask about the ingredients, you are told that "you don't need to know." A notice on the side reminds you to drag your empties to the trashcan. Windows 3.1 Beer The world's most popular. Comes in a 16-oz. can that looks a lot like a Mac Beer's can. Requires that you already own a DOS Beer. Claims that it allows you to drink several DOS Beers simultaneously, but in reality you can only drink a few of them, very slowly, especially slowly if you are drinking the Windows Beer at the same time. Sometimes, for apparently no reason, a can of Windows Beer will explode when you open it. OS/2 Beer Comes in a 32-oz can. Does allow you to drink several DOS Beers simultaneously. Allows you to drink Windows 3.1 Beer simultaneously too, even if you shake them up. You never really see anyone drinking OS/2 Beer, but the manufacturer (International Beer Manufacturing) claims that 9 million six-packs have been sold. Windows 95 Beer You can't buy it yet, but a lot of people have taste-tested it and claim it's wonderful. The can looks a lot like Mac Beer's can, but tastes more like Windows 3.1 Beer. It comes in 32-oz. cans, but when you look inside, the cans only have 16 oz. of beer in them. Most people will probably keep drinking Windows 3.1 Beer until their friends try Windows 95 Beer and say they like it. The ingredients list, when you look at the small print, has some of the same ingredients that come in DOS beer, even though the manufacturer claims that this is an entirely new brew. Windows NT Beer Comes in 32-oz. cans, but you can only buy it by the truckload. This causes most people to have to go out and buy bigger refrigerators. The can looks just like Windows 3.1 Beer's, but the company promises to change the can to look just like Windows 95 Beer's - after Windows 95 beer starts shipping. Touted as an "industrial strength" beer, and suggested only for use in bars. Unix Beer Drinkers of Unix Beer display fierce brand loyalty, even though they claim that all the different brands taste almost identical. Sometimes the pop-tops break off when you try to open them, so you have to have your own can opener around for those occasions, in which case you either need a complete set of instructions, or a friend who has been drinking Unix Beer for several years. AmigaDOS Beer The company has gone out of business, but their recipe has been picked up by some weird German company, so now this beer will be an import. This beer never really sold very well because the original manufacturer didn't understand marketing. Like Unix Beer, AmigaDOS Beer fans are an extremely loyal and loud group. It originally came in a 16-oz. can, but now comes in 32-oz. cans too. When this can was originally introduced, it appeared flashy and colorful, but the design hasn't changed much over the years, so it appears dated now. Critics of this beer claim that it is only meant for watching TV anyway. VMS Beer Requires minimal user interaction, except for popping the top and sipping. However cans have been known on occasion to explode, or contain extremely un-beer-like contents. Best drunk in high pressure development you're told that is proprietary and referred to an unknown listing in the manuals published by the FDA. Rumors are that this was once listed in the Physicians' Desk Reference as a tranquilizer, but no one can claim to have actually seen it. The biggest problem is before you can drink any one of them you have to buy a really expensive bag of chips to go with it.

    video for my yard

I agree with you 100 percent!! I am not doing the install therefore there are a lot of details that are being left out. I also cannot cover all contigincies. I would assume someone who does not mount cameras to a pole, or a proper mounting system is either doing a short term surveillance to solve a temp issue, or the system is at such a budget that a TEE ARE Double E mounting system is the only solution. If a TEE ARE Double E is used then it is assumed that conduit will not be used. I cannot be held accountable for the following issues I hope!! lighting issues. battery back up/line conditioning. wiring issues. If the budget is for $400 for a DVR then what is the budget for cameras? A DIY will design his/her own system, and then will implement the design to the best of their skills, and budget. I trust this DIY thread poster to have read the DIGITAL VIDEO RECORDER SECTION, SECURITY CAMERA SECTION, SYSTEM DESIGN, AND OTHER CATEGORIES to learn both the positive, the negative, the pro's, and the con's of putting together you own system. I wish him luck, and it's great forum users like you Lolo Wolf that keep DIY advised of the details that may not have come to them in the first place! We appreciate you Lolo Wolf!!

    video for my yard

I would recommend the AVTech AVC 760 DVR, or for a better choice the AVC 781. If these are young trees then use something more along the lines of bungy cords, or inner tube tires to mount the cameras to the tree. This can be done if the canopy is higher then the viewing area. If the camera is in the canopy area then you can only use high mm lens cameras to create more of a tunnel vision through the open canopy. Just trim the branches back where needed. This is dumb, but I will pass it on.... If the camera cable has to be stealth then use something like silcone caulking to create bumps along the wire so that it does not have a smooth texture, and then you can paint the wire to match the tree. You can use a tooth pick to create small bumps, or you can just dab the caulk tube against the wire in a touch, and go pattern. Prepare to do maintenance to keep up the look.

    are these cables recommended?

Where is the source for those cables? I could use something like that in a structured wiring panel with all of the boards that need power!!

    Test Monitor w/Power

Warning if you have a monitor similiar to mine. Do not try to power your cameras with it. I blew the internal power supply, and now I just change the AA batteries when needed. It is a good monitor, and I would recommend to anyone. I can no longer recharge the rechargable AA batteries that it came with, and if the batteries die then I cannot use it with the adapter as the internal power supply is "gone".
  17. It appears to me in the video that it is a 60 cycle hum. Does the DVR have a an external power supply, or does it have a straight 120 volt power cord such as a what you would see on a computer? A UPS/filter will not correct this flaw as the problem appears to be in the power supply itself. I would start with all of the items Lolo Wolf stated: There may be a capacitor that needs to be changed in the power supply.

    use wireless to connect 1304net?

Can you paint a better picture for me??? If I read this correctly there is a cash register in an Island. The DVR is under the cash register that is in the island. There is a modem (ATT/Bell South??) that is set up for the register to have internet access?? If the above is correct then can you put a router on the modem, and then connect the DVR to the internet? Correct me if I got it wrong. Thanks.
  19. HEY Texasdyme! I have never used this DVR, therefore I cannot give you any information. CCTVFACTORY sell AVTech products, and they put the manuals on their webpage. This gives me confidence that they have a tech support system for their customers. I have never bought from them so I still cannot give you any advice. If you have faith in CCTVFactory then I would say go for it, and let the rest of us know how the install went.
