Camera recommendations would start with Budget threat level camera job description Budget: self explanatory. Threat level: residential verse residential with a million dollars cash under the mattress verses commercial, verses building with security classification. There is no "right" camera. When installing cameras I look at what that camera is supposed to look at from that position, and what is it supposed to tell me. In dark nightclubs I use $100.00 mini B/W cameras for pool tables, darts, tables, and walk ways. I use $1000.00 cameras for the front door, back door, and the ATM machine, and I use $300 - $400 cameras for the in between stuff. Believe it or not $ B/W minis work great as long as there are rope lighting, pool table lights, and bar neons to provide low lighting for the cameras. I would suggest varifocal cameras so that you can set each camera to the perfect view, and then as your needs/situation changes then you can change the view on the camera to meet your new needs.

I would say the higher the degree of the crime, then the higher degree of "chain of custody" will be needed. Fender bender repairs in court verses murder/rape/kidnapping may be handled differently. I do not have much experience in this, so take what I say with a grain of salt. Plan for the worse, and hope for the best!

what kind of camera is suitable for classroom?
scorpion replied to jasmilelv's topic in Security Cameras
I recommend that you buy cameras that are varifocal. This way you can set each camera to the view that you want. I have installed cameras in a lot of "compute classrooms". I find that wide angle lenses are great for watching a bank of 4 computers. The disadvantage is that you cannot get good details as there is a distortion with wide angle cameras. Objects at a distance will appear farther away in the video then in reality. If you use a higher number lens then you can see close up detail, but then you cannot see the periphereal vision of what is going on. Varifocal will make your system more adaptable as your needs/situation changes. If you point one of these cameras at an entry/exit door then the higher mm will be perfect for this application. If you are watching a group of children then the low mm (wide angle) will be great for this application. If you are having to concentrate on one student, then you can change the settings on that camera to get the right shot! When placing your cameras watch out for your windows. The east side will blind your cameras in the morning, and the westside will blind them when the sun is setting earlier. -
I can get you one in the retail price range. I am not a wholesaler of those products so therefore I cannot pass on wholesale pricing.

In manual record you are splitting the IPS evenly among all 16 channels. You can record at 15 IPS. Divided by 16 channels this will get you a series of snapshots of what is going on, and then when someone walks in front of one of the cameras it should go to motion, and group should give the camera more IPS. Do not have two cameras looking at an entry way that is in the same group. You will then activate motion on two camera that will split the IPS.

Do you have a reg 507, or do you have the 507HC (AVD 717)? In the menu tree for the 507HC under record heading there is a selection Total IPS share. Any ideas what this is? I thought this was the same as the reg 505/507. See the manual for IPS share for the 505/507 page 16. I do not have a manual for the 507HC. I do have on my website a "quickguide" for the HC. I have never used the 507HC so I am curious. I thought it was the same DVR as the reg 507 with a "frankenstien" build to add everything together? NOTE: When users choose the image size as “CIFâ€

Do you have a manual? If you do not please feel free to download a manual from my website. There are several languages available. I hope there is one for you.

I would say the AVTech AVC 781, or the AVC 782A. These are entry level budget DVRs. Please feel free to download the manuals from my website then compare them to other DVRs. Welcome to the forum!

What kind of problems are you having with the DVR? Welcome to the forum!

I do not know why you are getting a still image on the AP software. If you are looking at the menu, with the remote software are you pressing the "enter" button? -

What DVR card are you comparing it to? The AVTech AVC 761 is an entry level product, and in that price range it will not compare to a high end DVR computer card, or a high end embedded DVR as well. As to the flicker problem. I assume that you are using 30 frames per second. If you were using 1 frame per second then the snapshot effect would be considered "flicker". Can you give more details on the flicker? I wonder if the flicker is due to strain on the RG59 cable on the back of the DVR creating a bad connection, and the camera video is flickering in, and out. Can you grab the connectors, and push in on the wires? Does the flicker go away? What does the video look like when you place a camera locally next to the DVR, and plug it in? Do you still have the flicker? -
Welcome to the threads! See you on the forum!

Was this manually through the buttons on the DVR, or was this through the AP software? I have never heard of this issue! I am glad that you bought from a place that takes care of their customers. Keep me posted when the other DVR comes in. Thank you for your kind words on my website. I am glad that it is a source of information for everyone out there. You should see my "keywords" list from the internet searches. I get a least 1600 hits a month. 80% is from google search. It is mind boggling for me to know that there are a large group of people screaming for information on DVR products on the web.

If you are buying 20 units of DVRs then I can get you pricing that will knock your socks off!
-
I am interested to find out if that is the problem.

I am familiar with this DVR. I am also familiar with Sec Cam Direct. I do like this DVR! I do like the SCD also! The manufacture for this DVR is called AVTech in Taiwan. The model number is AVC 787. You will also see this DVR as CPCam 507, and under other various brand names. I like the DVR as you can add a disk array to add more storage space, and with an adapter you can use a computer monitor. There are those out there that hate the application software that is used for remote viewing. I believe you are using Video Server E. I like the viewer as an entry level machine. There are better DVRs out there, but I have never installed them so I cannot render an opinion about other DVRs. I have installed alot of these style of DVRs from AVTech. If you need a manual they are available from my website in various languages. You can also find out how to do a hard reset to the DVR. There is other information on the AVTECH CPCAM TECH SUPPORT page. Congradulations on your purchase, and I wish you the best.

You do not need to have 4 cameras on the system. It will work with just one camera attached. As you are looking at live video from your monitor, then I can rule out that you are looking at video via the internet. You should not be having this problem. I have not seen this problem before. I would try to remove the wires to the hard drive, and then reattach them. What does your video look like now? I am wondering if your unit came with a hard drive, or if you installed one of your own? The DVR can operate without a hard drive (although it will not record), and it appears that you only have video problems when "pulling" the video from the hard drive. You may have a bad hard drive (HD), or you may have one that is not of the manufacture's spec. I would swap the HD for testing purposes. If that does not rectify your problem then in may be some "chip" that is supposed to put video to the HD that may be bad. Other than that I cannot help you.

Wholesale, or retail?

Feel free to down load manuals from my site to see if any of those match your specs. -
Dutch language file from AVC760 the same as AVC761 ??
scorpion replied to hio's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I would be interested to find out from your experiment if it does work. Thanks! -
I see what you are saying. By putting video server E on to the computer it will give you an uncorupt version to at least see the video. I wonder if it can be fixed with a firmware down load.
-
Is that part of the package of the Video Server E? If so, I wonder if you can download it again from my website, and try again. I wonder if the file is corrupt?
-
You are saying that the computer is giving you the error message, and that the computer is saying the program file is to large to load in to your computer. Do I have that right?

I was sending a PM. I do not know what I did to start a new thread? Whoops!
