Ditto! I install Swann wireless cameras, and it cracks me up when a customer has me in an attic running the power wire to the camera! Why not run one for the video too? They do have their place, and they can be used effectivly as long as customers understand their limitations.

Home System – 2 External, 8 Internal - $13,000???
scorpion replied to xtream2xtreme's topic in System Design
That would sound about right for a commercial company to come out, and do a commercial installation here in Florida. I would imagine some PTZ cameras would be part of the deal for that price. I compete with a few of these companies, and I win many of their bids. Having a company around me with bids like that makes my bids look good! Are they running conduit? Are they trenching? How high are the cameras mounted. Will they have to tear in to a second story floor to run wire? Will a commercial UPS be part of the bid? If it is just some cams, and a DVR, with a simple installation then I would get some more bids from other companies. Is there some product leasing involved? -

I have seen many brands used by my customers. Netgear Linksys D link and others. I would imagine a comercial unit would be better than a residential model. what do you think?

Sounds like a dirty contact on the cable, or on the board. Perhaps removing the cable, and putting it back, or replacing it? I would imagine that you have already done so.

This may not be what you are looking for, but it is a good camera, and it is vari focal. That means that it can be a wide angle camera, or a reg camera, or a little bit of zoom camera. You can hang a basket with some silk plants from a hook in the ceiling. Set the plant, and the camera so that if you look in the general direction then you will not notice the camera so much as the plant should catch your attention. You will have to decide how to set it up. Do you want the plant close to the camera so that it is looking through the plant, or would you want the plant off to one side? Will the plant block the view? If you have planter shelves then you can build a "bird house", and have the camera look out the hole. You can make anything that matches your decor. You can use a B/W covert "motion detector" camera, and you can install an IR illuminator so that you can see in complete darkness. The Illuminator will not be hidden, but the camera will be.

The answer is yes, but then again it depends on the selections in the menu of the machine. Such as disabling camera 3, and 4 in the record mode, ect.

The video is going to be same. Just be advised that the 30 IPS is to be divided among all of the cameras. You will be getting 7.5 IPS per channel at frame. You can add a disk array to both machines to expand your storage. They both can be hooked up to a computer monitor with an adapter. It really would not matter which of the two machines to decide on. Cost would be the first deciding factor, and future use would be another. I am glad that my website is a valuable resource to those searching for the hard to find "nuggets" of information. I find it unbelievable the lack of information that is on the web. I went looking for spanish manuals, and I could not find any! I thought with California, Texas, and Florida, that there would be an abundance of companies out there with spanish manuals! I was wrong. I wish I had more time to devote to the tech support page. There is a lot more information that I can post in regards to AVTech, and CPCam, but I just cannot find the time to do so. Maybe some volunteers can get together to add more "tech support" to the page. As I come across the "hard problems" then I add those problems, and solutions to the page. If any one is interested I can show you the listings that come from search engines. It would baffle you how much this information is needed by everyone out there!

720 X 480 pixels with 120 IPSNTSC FRAME Yes. You are right about the front four cameras placed on to channels 1, 5, 9, 13. The 787 is the exact same as the 507, and various other "branded" names on the market. Some are listed on my website for reference.

AVC 760 network backup speed very slow 1.7 mbps (212.5 KBPS)

What kind of computer are you using, and what are the specs, and what operating system are you using? Have you tried connecting to the DVR with a cross over cable for comparison? -
The CPCam 507 records at 352 X 240 pixels with 480 IPS NTSC. Just make sure that you are aware of the 352X240. I like it a lot. It has a lot of great features for a budget DVR. If you need more storage space you can use a disk array to hold more video! You can hook it up to a computer monitor with an adapter. http://211.75.84.102/kugai/demo/flash/retr.htm http://211.75.84.102/kugai/demo/flash/cd.htm

Go to my website, and you can down load both manuals for comparison. http://scorpiontheater.com/cpcamtechsupport.aspx The AVTech 783 will look like the 785. They put it in to the bigger case when the 783 needs to have the DVR writer. If budget is of the essence then the AVC 783 is a great machine! http://211.75.84.102/web/manu/783.pdf http://scorpiontheater.com/Documents/AVTech_Manual_English_CPD503_505_507_V0.99.pdf The CPCam CPD 503 is the same machine. CPCam is another name for AVTech. AVTech is the manufacture, and the CPCam is the Sales division. How I can tell that I have the right machine is to look at the audio inputs. If you have 4 audio inputs then you have a true 783 (503) even if it is not packaged in the larger 785 (505) style case. The AVC 781 is a model 2 with two audio inputs. http://scorpiontheater.com/Documents/AVTech_Manual_English_AVC_760_782_V1.1.pdf The 503 is not a repackaged 501. It is two seperate boards. Look at page 2 of this http://scorpiontheater.com/Documents/AVTech_Manual_English_CPD503_505_507_V0.99.pdf FRAME 720 X 480 pixels with 30 IPS NTSC 720 X 576 pixels with 25 IPS PAL CIF 352 X 240 pixels with 120 IPS NTSC 352 X 288 pixels with 100 IPS PAL Divide by 4 channels. 30/4=7.5 per channel in frame. 120/4=30 per channel in CIF Oh boy! I think I am confused now!! What do you think?

I have never used the burner, or the usb. So I truely do not know. Most of the installs that I do are budget ones, and they just use a VCR that they have on hand.

Wall to the modem, then to the router, (or switch, and not a hub), and then the computer will plug in to the router, (or switch), and the DVR will also plug in to the router, (or switch). Perhaps you may value hiring a network technition? You may contact ATT/Bell south to see if they provide routers for a monthly fee. If so then you may have them hook everything up when you request an appointment for them to come out. Do you look at this page? http://scorpiontheater.com/videonetworkingwithavtech.aspx

If video over the internet is of the essence, then AVTech may not be the right choice for you. I would recommend a DVR from ICRealtime if this is the case. If budget minded is of the essence the AVTech is the right choice for you. There are complaints about the application software as it is not that great, but then working under a budget then this works just fine for that case. The remote software will take your video, and it will convert it to AVI for you. There are other DVRS that are "easier" to use, but you will have to refer to others about choice on those products. The Aver media that Scruit, and CacheCreek use appears to make them very happy. Should you end up on vacation, and you ended up needing to get the video from your DVR, then you can go to my website, and down load the application software (aps), and then you can download the video to your hotel computer that they have in the "business room", or what ever computer you are using. The video will play at 30 FPS.

Restaurant owners (mom and pop) do not have the time to leave the restaurant to go see a print company, decide on a format, and then they probably could not afford to have 5000 menus made. How much does a 1000 business card cost? Why do I see people with plain white card with lackluster print? Why do they not spend a little more to make it standout more, or to look more professional? If you provide the menus to the restaurant for free, then I would imagine that you would have some takers. Why do Italian restaurants have a picture of Italy on the "placemat". Why do McDonalds put that piece of paper on the tray? I do not think that the tray liner was made in a hermitcally sealed clean room. I do not believe that the tray liner is going to protect me from germs that are on the tray. It is all about the marketing. The Italiant restaurant is not owned by an italian, but they have bottles of italian wine on the shelves to make you "feel" like you are in an authentic restaurant in Rome. Can you approach businesses, and get them to order advertising space from you? Are there restaurants out there that have a need for free menus? Can you advertise your business on the menu for free by offsetting the cost to other businesses? What is the reputation of the business that you are putting the menus in to. If it is a real slow business then you might be wasting your time. If it has good traffic then how much of the customer's attention can you catch while they are waiting for their food, or will they read while they are eating? If you had a coupon in the menu ad would people respond? This worked for me in the past. I would have to say it is not for everyone. Maybe someone would be better off spending $2000.00 on a phone book ad, $2000.00 on a radio promo, and $2000.00 on a TV promo, and $2000.00 with "in the movie theater" advertising promo. If I had $8000.00, then how many people can I hire at minimum wage to stand at various street corners holding up my ad signs? Hmmmmm!

This is a difficult campain, but it will not cost you for any supplys. If you can put a lot in to it you can actually make some money out of it. What you will need to do is advertise to restaraunts: Free menus for your restaraunt! You will receive 5000 menus that you may give to your guest, and they are ready to mail for your convenience. You will need to go door to door asking business if they would like to buy a business card size ad for $75 that will be seen by 5000 people. You will need to have a printer company set up a menu. The center part will be empty. This is where the restaraunt menu will go. On the front you can put a picture of the restaraunt with the name, address, phone number, and web address if they have one. On the back you will make it like a post card. Restaraunt address in the top left, and a blank square where the stamp should go. In the center the restaraunt can put mailing labels of those that they want to send the menu to. In the area surrounding the "menu" you will have business card size rectangles. You will fill these in with advertisers. Look at different advertising and approach these business that you are seeing. Car lots tend to be high advertisers. Collision/painting shops are another one. Avoid restaraunts if you can. You do not want a restaraunt advertising in another restaraunt's menu. Ask the printer what the largest size paper they can print (18"?). You will fold the menu up. You will have a front page, and the mailing back page. When you first open the menu you can have two 1/4 page ads, and when you completly open the menu you have the menu, and all of the advertisers on this page. When you get this built up, you should be making money off of the advertisers. Imagine if you could get 30 advertisers paying $75.00 each!!!!! What is that? $2500.00??? Do not fold them. Let the restaraunt fold them themselves. Here is the bonus. You are the largest advertiser! You get seen by every customer of this restaraunt, and it does not cost you a dime! IF you do alot of these you may have to hire an employee to do all of the leg work! This will not work for everyone. It is labor intensive to process everything together. What do you think?

Yes, you will need to get a router so that you can hook up two devices to your modem. As to security on the internet. If you have cameras on the outside of your house then I would not be to concerned about security. If they were installed in a bank then I would be very concerned about security. You can add layers of security. You can purchase a product called sonicwall http://www.sonicwall.com/us/products/UTM_Firewall_VPN.html You can set up a password so that someone has to log in to get through your sonicwall firewall. If they do not have the password then they are left outside. Once you get past the firewall, then you still have to log in to your dvr. Make the passwords as difficult as possible. Simple passwords, are simple to "crack". For the general public, then I am not to concerned about someone "busting" in. There is probable one in 1000 that can crack everypassword, and hack in to any site they wish to. I would not be able to protect myself from such an individual. Why would they bust in to my DVR if they were that talented?? If they are that talented then they are going to want some serious cash. They would be wasting their time with me. I think they would go after a financial institution, or something before they would waste their time with me. Your security is a variable. How much are you protecting? How much are you willing to protect it? If you have a million dollars cash under your bed then I would tell you not to trust anyone!! Your own private guards may do you in before a "stranger" on the internet would. If security is of the essence then I would seek out ways to have a DVR that sends video out that is encrypted. I know they have them, but I have never seen one.
