CCTV for cueing music performance
scorpion replied to supervision's topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
You need two inexpensive cameras (usually bullet style), two power supplies (most cameras do not come with them, but some do), and you need two TVs. You can pick the TVs up from a pawn shop to save cash. You will need to plug the power supply in to the wall. It is wired to the camera in room A. The video from room A goes to a TV in room B. Duplicate this for B to A. Now comes the tricky part. If you want to see both video feeds in the control room then you need two of these. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103065 In this setup I would run the two camera video feeds in to the control room. Split the camera signal from A, and then hook one feed to your TV for room A, and run another feed in to room B. Take video feed from room B, and split that. Hook up one feed to your B monitor, and run the second feed to room A. If you are dealing with BNC camera cables then you will need this to plug in to the yellow video input on the TV. http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-1010_connector.html How does that sound, or should I say how does that look? -
For this post, or for others who read this post.... If cost is not a problem then you can use most A/V "smart pads". They are built in to the wall flush as you have described. They are usually expensive, but that is more because they are touch screen for the various controls. You will find them from every section of AV. It could be as a hometheater product, or automation product, or it may be a standalone device that comes with a "whole house Audio, and Video" device. http://images.google.com/images?q=av%20in%20wall%20touch%20screen%20controller&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi Try to find a used on EBAY, or some other source. ************************************************** If your project is "budget is of the essence" then use those auto style monitors. Mount it with in the wall the cheapest way you can and you can install crown moulding, or some woodwork as a frame. http://www.rd.com/images/tfhimport/2004/20041101_Crown_Molding_page003img002.jpg http://images.google.com/images?q=crown%20moulding&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi http://images.google.com/images?q=door%20and%20window%20wood%20trim&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi I would probably put in a "media box" or an alarm panel box. I would mount it so the edge is flush to the drywall (and not the 2x4 studs) and then mount the "tv" mount inside, and then mount the tv to the mount, or what ever you need to do. The you install the wood trim to surround the box to hide the imperfections, or to flush the wood up against the monitor whether the monitor is flush to the wall, or if it protrudes will determine how the mount is to be placed behind the TV. For this project will the camera be the only video source, or will you have multiple video sources? The old VCRs back in the day had PIP (picture in picture). If you can dig one out of your closet, or find one at a pawn shop, or a thrift shop then you can have two videos on this screen. The question is: do you wire the source directly to the monitor, or do you run the video source back to an "electronics closet", or an entertainment unit, and run the monitor wire back to the same place? This will allow you to do your own video switching, or to have access to both video wires for troubleshooting. Is the camera dead? Plug the monitor wire in to a DVD player to verify the dead monitor, or a dead camera issue. This set up allows for more flexibility in the future. *************************************************************** You can take a picture frame, and install a plain piece of glass. You tint the glass with window tint that is mirrored. It will allow the video source to pass through, and you have a mirror on the wall. The other style is electronically controlled crystals. When it is not energized it is a mirror. When energized the crystals realign allowing video to pass through. This is conected so both source, and mirror are energized at the same time. ***************************************************************** Camera BNC to Video RCA http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-1010_connector.html One video / audio input and 4 video / audio output for multiple monitors! http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103065 What do you think?

scorpion posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
How would you locally record an IP PTZ camera that is remotely set up? Anyone building a PC based DVR in an outdoor weather proof electrical box? What systems do you have? What is your favorite IP PTZ camera? Thanks! -

I am not sure why the DVR is giving you problems. Another option would be to connect via the internet and download the video, and convert the AVI using the software supplied with the DVR. You can also buy a composite video to USB device, and connect to the monitor out of the DVR, and record the video to your computer, or laptop as AVI.

thewireguys thanks for the link! hardwired Nice Build! How much did you have wrapped up in it at the time? -
Disconnect the hard drive, and see if the DVR performs normally even though it will not record. If it is not a dirty contact on the HD then I truely do not know. The AVC 777 is a 16 channel DVR. Do you have an AVC 770, or 773, or 774?

Do not hard reset the DVR. The firmware will become permanent, and your DVR will be stuck. Can you load the older version firmware back in?

GUVEN, I could not tell what your location is, but I believe you can contact any Alarm monitoring company. If they do not, then they can pass you on to a company that does. -

BNC Connectors - Screw-on vs Crimp-on
scorpion replied to jimbo's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I do not seem to have failure problems whether I use crimp on, or twist on. I seem to have more problems with the quality of the product. Some years back our distributor was sent a bad set of crimp ons. Talk about having multiple failures from multiple installs! That was hell in a hand basket. The dist sent me a new order overnighted, and no additional charges. Nice to see it when your dist stands behind your back to make you look good when chaos reigns! I like the twist ons, but recently I received an order of 100 from a dist, and I thought they were plastic when I picked up one, and it did not have any weight to it. It did not seem to be a quality product, and I have yet to use them on an install out of fear of call backs. -
