    IP65 Covert Camera

To many variables to give you any info. Is this indoor, or outdoor where you will be using this camera? What do you mean by power hose? Pressure washer, or is this more like a fire dept testing their hoses?? Do you have an arson event daily? Question: The area that you are watching, how far away is this area that you are watching from where the camera is mounted? Is this for daytime use, night time use, or both? Would you be better off putting a water proof camera in a birdhouse, or a dog house, to disguise it? Why does it have to be covert? I am not being nosy, but it helps with product selection. With smoke detector style covert cameras you will not be able to get a facial shot. These are great for looking right down in to a cash till. You can see the hand movement to see if someone is pocketing cash. A covert PIR motion detector will give you facial shots to some degree. Most off the shelf covert products will come with a wide angle lens. There is a distortion issue that is associated with wide lenses. They are designed to pull in the peripheral view. Items at a distance are ignored with this lens selection. An object at 20 feet will appear further away in the video. This means that an object will appear smaller in the video compared to reality as well. A face at 20 feet will not be as readable, compared to a 6mm lens or higher. The farther away the area is from the camera the more you may need a higher mm lens to get a facial shot. If you are more interested in a travel path such as a parking lot then wide angle lens are good for this. You can see someone walking from car to car across a parking lot. You may not have facial detail, but you get the activity detail. This is where I need more info. The right lens, camera, and product can be real tricky in the selection process. It sounds like you may need to hide a camera in a metal box of some sort to "hide" it. If you are prone to fire then that means the covert smoke detector or the PIR motion may melt before you get the video shot that you are looking for. I am thinking that the plastic will melt in the way of the lens.
  2. IBM chipset promises HD downloads in milliseconds! (This would be great for DVRS)!!!! http://www.itnews.com.au/News/63519,ibm-chipset-promises-hd-downloads-in-milliseconds.aspx By Paul McDougall 23 October 2007 07:41AM Tags: ibm | chipset | promises | hd | downloads | milliseconds IBM disclosed Monday that it has teamed up with Taiwanese vendor MediaTek to develop computer chipsets that the companies say will allow consumers to wirelessly zap high-definition content to televisions and other devices at push-button speeds.. Dubbed mmWave, the chipsets -- which comprise computer chips and high-speed interconnects -- will use so-called millimeter wave radio technology to transmit the data. The technology employs ultra-high radio frequencies capable of sending and receiving large amounts of data at extremely high speeds to create what IBM and MediaTek are calling "revolutionary multimedia wireless products." Devices utilizing the technology would be capable of receiving a 10-Gbit file in about 5 seconds, compared to 10 minutes using current Wi-Fi systems. "This collaborative effort will enable consumers to wirelessly transfer large multimedia data files around their home and/or offices in seconds," said T.C. Chen, VP for science and technology at IBM Research, in a statement. The technology could be used in applications like home theater, where a wireless DVD player could stream high-definition movie content to a television in near-real time. IBM said it will work to integrate its mmWave radio chips, antenna, and package technology with MediaTek's expertise in digital baseband and video processing. Still, tech enthusiasts shouldn't rush down to their local Circuit City or Best Buy in hopes of finding such products just yet. IBM officials say it will be at least three years before they can commercialize the technology. "We don't have a projected date for making a prototype available," said IBM business development executive Saif Aziz, in an interview. The technology is also expected to compete with Ultra Wideband as a localized networking technology. Earlier this year, IBM disclosed research it's undertaking into high-speed optical chipsets. how much for installation

I tend to loose a few bids here, and there. Then again I rarely have to deal with a low budget install where the customer does not want to spend any money then they come back on me to complain that the system does not do what they expected it to do. I want to read a license plate in complete darkness at 60 feet from my house, and I want it in color! This is why I hired you in the first place. Now I want you to take back all of this equipment, and I want my money back. I could install a 16 camera system with true day night cameras, and the best DVR for $300.00 equiment, and installation, and these kind of customers would still find a way to complain about something! I try to spend more time prequalifying people. They have to have a need to protect something. I am not going to sell a system for the sake of selling equipment to make money. If I do not sense any urgency, or importance to their needs I would rather walk away from the project. Expecting moms: Done Deal! Contractors with tools/trailers: Done Deal! Business people who work out of their home, and they deal with the public: That is a done deal. Someone who has already been ripped off, and has lost "faith", and "trust" in their privacy, or protection: Done Deal! Someone who has a large income, who could be a target of theft/breakin: Done Deal! I want to see who is stealing my newspaper, and I want to spend $50.00: Prequalify to upgrade or walk away! I want to see who is scratching my car, and I want to put a cheap camera in the inside of my window for night time video capture: It is not going to work, I suggest....blah blah...and Have a nice day! If you need a cheap system, and you have a need then I can help someone! There are some good tricks to get a cheap system installed, and you can make the system flexible to meet future needs, and unexpected "events". You are prequalified, and I will now bust my butt to make it happen! You would be suprised at how many cameras I sell to someone, and then I recommend that they buy a $50.00 VCR. People on a tight budget have the right to protect their property just like any one else. This is why in the article section, I put the "How to fix your video Problems". You would be suprised at the difficulty in bringing up video with a VCR, and a composite input on a TV! http://www.cctvforum.com/cms_view_article.php?aid=41 For the true do it yourself! "How to run wire in a Florida attic"! http://www.cctvforum.com/cms_view_article.php?aid=48 When the gremlins creep their heads up after a DIY (do it yourself) Installation, and then give this advice! http://www.cctvforum.com/cms_view_article.php?aid=42 _________________________________________________________ So here I sit giving away all this information for free, and loosing money on "lost" business!!!!! Yet these people are my biggest marketing campainers!! I get more jobs from these people then any advertising in the Yellow Pages, newspaper, or magazine!! It is usually a family member (son/daughter brother/ sister family friend ect). I get jobs off of a "marketing campain" that does not cost me any money (per se). ___________________________________________________________ If you came in to the show room you would actually laugh! Do you know how many pieces of cheap alarm gear I have?? I have loads of it! I have simple motion detectors that chime, or alarm, I have motion detectors that dial out and repeat the message that you recorded in to the device. Imagine getting a cell phone call, and you hear your voice saying there is a breakin ......., or what ever you set this device up to trigger, such as your daughter has just jumped out the window (late night). I have a telephone for beautiful single females! If you are hot, and single then you need this!!!!!! Your cell phone will ring, and you can hear what is going on in your apt, or house!!! Is it the maitenance person installing a new air filter, or letting the bug spray person in, or his he rifleing through your drawers??????? I can solve that issue for you!! I have a device that will call you on your cell phone, and you can listen in on your home!!! Who is that with your boyfriend/girlfriend???? Are they cheating, or are you just paranoid???? I can solve that for you too!! I have hidden safes!! I have hairspray that is hollow! I have water bottles that are hollow. You can store jewelry, or you can store cash!! I use a desenex can in my luggage in case some hotel person decides they want to enter my room, and take my cash!! Would you touch a can of desenex?? Gross!! I have devices that will record both sides of a telephone call, or you can record both sides of YOUR own cell phone calls. LADIES!! Do you go to tanning salons? I can help you find hidden cameras in 5 seconds flat. The camera does not have to be plugged in, the camera does not have to be operational, but you can still find it! I am not trying to make a sale here. I am saying, people protect yourself at all times!!!!! To dealers, think like a thief when you install equipment. If you do not know how a thief does his job, how are you supposed to do yours???? Be a security "specialist". Watch shows like "to catch a thief", figure a way to provide a security solution for every budget. I love a challenge, and this is why I enjoy this work so much.

Some of the Dish wholesalers have a lot of the tools, equipment, and parts at pretty good prices. We have one in Melbourne that is called Dow Electronics. They have Dish Network products, Sony products, HD antennas, ground straps, diplexors, and on, and on, and on! They recently closed the Melbourne Location, and they moved everything to their Orlando Location. I think I am going to cry! Now I have to pay for shipping! I also get a lot of products from Interlect. I do not have to pay shipping as they are about 30 minute drive from me. They ship world wide, and it is nice to know that if I have a last minute need for something I can just take a drive to resolve an installation problem! I will post the web link in the dealer section for those that want to know.

I am curious as to how much you planned on charging as well. I charge those rates so that I can cover the following: This includes tech support (24/7 phone number), and anything that I can do to help beyond manufacture warranty ect. I have had to show up to people's houses to help them off load video to give to the police dept. I try not to keep the police waiting for very long! My product charges are higher to some degree compared to others on this forum. I tend to lose more customers out the showroom doors as they go to big box clubs, or off the internet. I tend to see these same people later down the road as they "get burned" by poor products, or ripped off from the internet, and then they wish the "ebay guy/store" would have the same "tech support" that we provide. I have stand by cameras, and I have stand by DVRs for those once in a blue equipment failures, or malfuction. (Here in Florida we are know as the lightning capitol of the world, and you have to deal with the flicker, and flash problems from the power company). One camera, and one DVR with an hour drive: How much does it cost me? Ouch!

    Internet Providers & blocked ports?

Bellsouth now ATT: Port 80 blocked They also load a program called "broadjump". This prevents a computer to connect to the internet after you switch to a cable internet provider. ____________________________________________________ Bright house. The most easy to setup between these two choices. Pretty much plug, and play. Port 80 open.

If you are a licensed, and insured company then I recommend: $100.00 per camera, $100.00 for the DVR, and $200 for the network setup. If it is a difficult install then charge $100.00 per hour.

You may not get a good price as you may get off the internet, but I would say buy your tools from your CCTV distributor for now. I would tell people to check around at the local pawn shops as well. Sometimes you would be surprised at what you find, or you can save a little bit of money.
  19. Never used. I own this free, and clear. For sell very cheap. Cash, or trade. This is a good web URL to post your manuals, firmware updates, pdf files, guides, specifications, and anything that is for dealers only. You can use this to keep regular visitors to your website seperated unless they have a dealer pass, or you give out this URL separately if it is not password protected. Great for manufactures, distributors, dealers, or e-tailers. I will trade it for an 8 channel AVTech DVR, vga adapter, and disk array (no drives installed is ok), and one PTZ. If I can be of any assistance please P.M. me. Thank you Scorpion
  20. I use scdlink. I have never had any problems. Buy the hard drives local to you as they charge way to much for them. I do not like the DVR 4002. The DVR 4004/4005 has a power supply problem. One out of ten will crash, and burn. I do not like the DVR4009. It is great for cheapo budgets, but now there are better options for the same price. For the money stick with the entry level AVTech DVRs. The DVR4007 used to be great for the money. Buy the AVTech entry level DVRs that are on the market now. The DVR4015 / 8015 / 1615 is Great! The DVR4016/4017 is great! The DVR 1601 / 1614 is good. Customer service has been good to me. _______________ I am mostly buying from cctvoutlet nowadays because they are one day shipping from me. SCD is three days from me.

Cell phone doubles as home surveillance gear! http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1035_22-6213505.html?tag=nl.e019 http://home.singtel.com/consumer/products/mobile/value_added_services/mobile_livecam_overview.asp SingTel, the Singapore-based telephone company, has released a home surveillance camera that lets people view the images via their mobile phones. The Mobile LiveCam is 0.3-megapixel camera equipped with a SIM card, a built-in microphone and a 512MB memory card for recording video-streaming images, SingTel said in a statement. In addition, the battery-operated camera is equipped with infrared video capabilities to better capture images in dimly lit spaces and at night. The surveillance camera operates on a 3G network. To view the images captured, people dial the camera's assigned number using their 3G mobile phone. They can use the numeric keypad on their phone to remotely control the camera, which SingTel said is able to pan, tilt and zoom in. In addition, the company said, its new product supports features such as image brightness, volume, on-the-fly recording and image inverting. The service is available to residential customers with an existing SingTel Mobile 3G account, at a monthly subscription fee of about $6 (8.56 Singapore dollars), plus a one-time equipment fee of about $240.

    IR Remote DVR

I am only recommending this DVR as it has a mini pin input for IR control. http://www.avtech.com.tw/english/product_13_785.htm You can use the CPCam CPD505 as well. You will have to decide if it meets your specifications for your application. The DVR comes with an "eye" that you plug in on the back, and then you place the eye where it can "seen" by the remote control. For IR control you can run wiring from one room where the remote control is located back to where the DVR is located. For others who read this thread you can use xantech equipment to transfer the IR commands from a remote control in one room, to a DVR located in another room, (or another floor). http://www.xantech.com/products/ir_products/17294RP.htm Let me know if this is what you are looking for.

Cameras help ID suspects in purse snatch http://www6.lexisnexis.com/publisher/EndUser?Action=UserDisplayFullDocument&orgId=563&topicId=16438&docId=l:681084202 Copyright 2007 Flint Journal All Rights Reserved Flint Journal (Michigan) October 7, 2007 Sunday THE FLINT TOWNSHIP NEWS EDITION COMMUNITY; Pg. FT01 318 words Cameras help ID suspects in purse snatch Jeff Smith, jfsmith@flinttownshipnews.com * 810.766.6328 FLINT TOWNSHIP FLINT TWP. - Three men suspected of involvement in snatching an elderly woman's purse at a popular restaurant have been identified with the help of four witnesses and the township surveillance camera system. The purse snatching at Ruggero's in Lincor Plaza was captured on the camera system and sent to police, said Flint Township Det. Randy Kimes. A 95-year-old woman was waiting in the doorway of the restaurant around 6:15 p.m. Sept. 27, when a white car carrying three men stopped in front of the restaurant. One man in the vehicle jumped from it, grabbed the purse off the woman's arm and got back into the car. Two waitresses in the restaurant witnessed the crime, along with two county employees, who were doing maintenance work on a drain in the plaza. The two county workers jumped into their vehicle and chased the suspects' car east down Taft Road, following the trio as their vehicle crossed Dutcher Road and continued down Taft through the Utley Hills neighborhood, Kimes said. In Utley Hills, the driver lost control of the vehicle as it headed north on Monaco Street, crashing it into a utility pole. The disabled vehicle snapped the pole, and the three men bailed out. The men all fled the scene, but the county employees witnessed the crash. Police were able to identify the suspects by examining images taken from the Safe City security camera system, which is an ongoing project that targets the township's commercial strips. Lincor Plaza has three cameras keeping an eye on the property. Two of the suspects, 23 and 24 years old, from the Grand Blanc area, were arrested Wednesday. The third man, a 24-year-old from the Flint area, was to turn himself in to authorities Friday, the suspect's attorney told police. None of the men has a criminal record, according to police. The victim's purse was recovered from the vehicle, which was registered to one of the suspects. She was not hurt, Kimes said. October 7, 2007
