I truley do not know. I believe they are speaking about the ccd chip being digital. If this camera works in the environment that you put it in to, then I would say you are good to go. You will not find this on most security store shelves. You will if they want to catch a "quick sell" just to keep someone from going to the big box warehouse club, or if they want to keep entry level customers from going to the internet. As long as you keep the product in the evironment that it was designed for it should work. You may need to put it in to an enclosure if you put it outside. If security is of the essence, then I would reconsider your camera choice.

can you post it as www dot stupidwebsite dot com. After I take a look, I will ask you to re edit the post, and take it out.

11 cameras, and a switcher, and they work at night. That is gods gift to the CCTV. You have won the lottery for $60.00! You probably would not want to buy from me either. I tend to drive to peoples houses when there are problems, and make sure there is 100% satisfaction. I tend to email lost manuals, and such. Since nobody does this in my area, I get treated like I am a premium store when in reality I am just doing my job! I bump up the prices a hair so that I can perform these tasks with ease. I lose a lot of customers because of my pricing. I usually get a snide remark about the prices, and then I am told that they are going to the internet, or to EBAY. I have to give a lot of credit to those who left our store with all of the advice that I gave them, and then the products that they ordered did not perform well that they got from the internet, then they have to reapproach me to get things fixed. You can really feel that they mean it when they said "scorpion, you told me so". If you bought it off the internet, and you have a problem with the camera, bring it in to my shop, and I will take a look at it for no charge. Do not call me to come out to the house as I have to charge a service charge. YIKES! Gotta love the gas prices, insurance, and oh boy, the workmans comp is really getting out of control! What is it up to now $12 per $100 of employee salary now?? What is that? $15,000 a year for 4 techs?

Sounds like my High Definition Sunglasses to me. With out more information we cannot determine the meaning of "digital". It may be a catch phrase for sales purposes. Then again a 100% transistorized television still has a tube! (??).

Microsoft's Explorer update ditches Windows GenuineAdvantage
scorpion posted a topic in Computers/Networking
Microsoft's Explorer update ditches Windows Genuine Advantage http://www.itnews.com.au/News/62586,microsofts-explorer-update-ditches-windows-genuine-advantage.aspx Microsoft has released an updated version of Internet Explorer 7 that dispenses with a cumbersome security feature designed to ensure users are running the Web browser atop legitimate copies of the Windows operating system. In a note posted Thursday on the Explorer development team blog, Microsoft programmers said the decision to drop Windows Genuine Advantage, as the security feature is known, from Explorer was made to promote the browser to a wider audience. "We're updating the IE 7 installation experience to make it available as broadly as possible to all Windows users," said Explorer program manager Steve Reynolds in a blog post. Flaws in Windows Genuine Advantage have reportedly resulted in millions of Windows users erroneously being reported to Microsoft as software pirates. A Chinese student has gone so far as to sue Microsoft over the issue. The update, available as a download, also includes a number of other enhancements to Internet Explorer 7. The menu bar is now visible by default, the online help section has been enhanced, and a new tool is included to help IT administrators in large enterprises deploy the browser. Microsoft is clearly hoping the update will boost adoption of IE 7, which debuted last year for Windows XP and was updated in January for Windows Vista. Despite the releases, Explorer's market share has declined slightly over the past year as competition emerges from Firefox, Safari, Opera, and other alternative browsers. Explorer's market share fell from 81.3 percent of the market in October 2006 to 77.9 percent in September 2007, according to market watchers at Net Applications. Looking for decent dvr system for store
scorpion replied to mr.verbal's topic in Digital Video Recorders
My first recommendation is to find a local CCTV dealer/installer. Ask them about an entry level system. Support your local dealers, and when you have a problem, then they will support you. I would recommend the AVTech AVC 785, (AVC 785D W/DVD writer), or the CPCam CPD505 series, (same product, different names). This is an entry level 8 channel DVR. It is what it is. It will never compete with high end DVRs. Then again I am not interested in buying a $4000.00 DVR either. Buy from one of the members of this forum. You will know where to find them!! Select from the banner ads, or the partner section. Do not select from the ads by google. I would say buy from me, but I am not local to you. See if you can find a member from here that is at least in your state. If all else fails, then I would be more than glad to help you. Your cameras will be at a price that is dependent of the dealer mark up. If you decide to buy off the internet stick with company websites. If you buy from an individual, or from EBAY, I would have you establish contact with that person before you buy. Do they have a valid phone number posted? Do they have a good email posted? Can you email questions before you buy? Camera selection would be based on your local "environment". I would be lying to you if I just started telling you what camera to buy. I can recommend some cheap cameras, and I can recommend the right camera, but you may not be able to keep your budget in tack. My recommendation is to buy the most expensive camera for the front door, and the back door that you can afford. Use meduim priced cameras for the area that is high dollar, or prone to pilfer. You can buy very cheap B/W cameras in areas that you want to watch, if they do not have a high priority. This will allow you to mix, and match, and still keep a budget. Here is what I recommend. Buy a camera that has vari focal such as 4 - 9 mm, 50 foot throw of IR, and it is vandal resistant. http://avssys.net/?s=product&sub=camera&cat=ir&p=vnd49ir This camera will do you more justice down the road. You will spend more now, but you will save $$$ later. Buy this camera for every position where you need a camera. Here is a fake scenario for reference. You have an open area such as in front of cash registers. You have a camera here watching this area. All of a sudden it is Christmas time, and one of your suppliers builds a big display (beer, ect) now your camera view is blocked. With varifocal you can re aim the camera, and zoom in to regain the usefulness of this camera. Here is where you save money down the road. You have some theft, or some event that you did not anticipate. Now you need to go, and buy more cameras! NO YOU DO NOT! Take the camera that I recommend. You can pick a couple of "sacrificial" cameras, reorient them to this new "event", and you can manipulate the vari focal lens to get the perfect picture. How much did you just save by not buying more cameras? Now you have a flexable system. It will adapt to any situation that you need. Let me know if you have any more questions! -
Press MENU select RECORD select OVERWRITE This should say yes. When the hard drive is full it will loop back and record over the oldest video footage going in to a "loop". press MENU to get out of this page select ADVANCE select DETECTION Move the cursor to the second column marked DET, make sure it says ON for all of the cameras that you have hooked up. Now move the cursor to the third column marked AREA. On cam one press enter. If the page is pink then this is not seeing "motion", if it is clear than it is looking for motion to trigger recording. Here is the hard part to describe. Find where the cursor is blinking (probably around the center of the screen somewhere) using the left arrow move it to the far left of your screen, using the up arrow go all the way to the top of the screen. Press enter (this marks a starting point), move the cursor down to the bottom of the screen, (do not touch any buttons except arrow/directional buttons), when you get to the bottom of the screen use the right arrow, and move the cursor to the right. Here is what you should be seeing. When you pressed enter at the top of the screen the square went from pink to clear, as you pressed the arrow down the whole column became clear. As you used the right arrow the screen slowly became clear as you worked your way to the right. When you get to the right side of the screen you can move your hand in front of a camera and you will see all of the squares "activating" as it follows your movements. Press ENTER to stop the selection process. You are now good to go for motion detection. Press MENU to back out of camera one area, and press the down arrow to get to camera two area. Press ENTER, and repeat steps for each camera. Here is a trick. If you have some outdoor cameras, and you have some bushes, trees, ect, then you can set up motion masking. Now the bushes, and trees will not trigger your cameras. Move the cursor to where you want to start a motion area. Start at the top of this area, press enter, go down as many squares as you need then work your way to the left or right to make a "motion" box. Press enter to stop the selection process. You can now freely move the cursor. Go to your next area that you want motion detection, and make your box, rectangle, or just go wild to get all of the nooks, and cranny around moving objects. Press menu to get out of AREA, press menu to get out of Detection. Go to RECORD go to manual record press enter. It should say YES Press menu to get out of the menu pages. THIS IS NOT THE COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS FOR SETTING UP THE DVR! For others who are reading this post....... This is where most people have problems setting up the DVR. You still need to set the date time group, record quality, ect, ect. If anyone else needs help start a new thread, and I will be more than glad to help. If you have lost your manual that is not a problem. I charge $500.00 for a new copy!!!!! LOL! I was joking!

Press menu select ADVANCE select ALERT go about 4 lines down select MOTION PUSH ENTER This should change it to NO Now you will not hear any beeps when your "cameras" detect motion. Press menu to go back out of the "pages". Let me know how it worked.

Ouch! In 1981, I was trying to set up a second monitor to a video game called Donkey Kong. Everyone was crowded around it trying to watch the game play. I set up a second monitor on top of the game, and I learned a new catch phrase. "Isolation transformer"! New loan for $2000.00, extra monitor $600.00, owning the best gameroom in town, blowing the video game, and losing a friday nights worth of income, learning a electronics on the job; PRICELESS! I paralleled all of the wires to included the monitor's AC. I learned a second phrase "faux pax"!

Hey RickA, How did you know???? LOL! The only problem that I have is most manufactures of pigtails will put a marking stripe on the +, and once in a blue moon I will run it to a batch that has the stripe on -. There I stand scratching my head trying to figure why one of the cameras are not working! It may also be that someone cut off the power lead to a bad xmfr, and threw it in the mix, and I just ended up with it on an install. Some of the techs think that it is funny that I do a continuity check when I cut the power lead of a xmfr. It makes it a lot easier for troubleshooting later if I precheck everything as I go. I do not trust the stripes! I get the last laugh when I call other installs to ask hows it going? OH yea? Too bad! Me? I am on my way back to the shop! Call me, and let me know how it works out!! Now who get the last laugh! If you want to have some fun insert an electrolytic cap in to the extension cords, and watch the face of the new hires as they plug them in, and they here a pop!! Now you can ask the new guy Hey! What did you do to my drill?? If you are working on a rack, and you are firing it up for the first time you can do the cap trick, or you can take a piece of card board, and go to the back side of the rack where the tech cannot see you as he hits the on switch. Light the piece of cardboard, and then fan the flame out right away. As the tech smells "smoke" you get to watch their wild stepping dance as they rush back to the rack to turn it off, or they run for the wall plate to unplug it!! LOL! Oh my goodness I am so demented!

Does it have a lan connection? If so can you take a cross over cable, and hook it up to a computer directly? It may let you in with a browser. If you are really lucky it may have the software as a down load. I doubt the above as the PC board inside looks very plain jane entry level.

Running cat 5 is good for IR control back to the "home run" where your sat dish / cable box is located. It is also great for RS 232 control. It is smart to run extra cable when you can.

I plug my cameras in to 120 volt AC. I have not been able to get any of my cameras to work so I do not have an opinion as of yet, but I will keep you posted. Maybe I will try the 24/12 as an option? LOL!

If you are recording in Frame, then you are recording in JPEG. CIF will give you MPEG recording. This also depends on the DVR, and I did not catch the model before I posted.

Can this be hooked up to a DVR or PC for recording? SG17Q20
scorpion replied to sillared's topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
Good News! Can it be done? Yes it can. Do you have it in Actual, or do you have it in Quad mode? Have you bought extra cameras, or are you only using one? Do you leave it on, or do you keep it in standby mode? Why do you need a DVR? Do you need 24/7 recording? ________________________________________________________ You will need to keep it in quad mode as this will still output a signal even while it is in standby mode. You will need to take the VCR output, and you will hook this up to channel(camera) one on the DVR. This will keep your paging function, and you will not have to buy new cameras for the DVR, and you can record 24/7!! It is not worth using the original cameras with the DVR unless you are an electronics hobbyist, and you know how to use a soldering iron, and you know your wiring color codes. You can connect a crimp on connector to the camera wiring, but you will need a good magnifying lens to do the work. ______________________________________________________ You are actually mixing to seperate pieces of equipment that were not designed to work together. If you are not satisfied with your performance of your aircooled, 4 cylinder volkswagen, then you would not buy a 4X4, V8 box framed, water cooled, oilcooled, transmission cooled, and disc brake cooled truck to tow your volkswagen! You may want to go with an upgrade I would say mix the equipment for now, but buy a few camera designed for the DVR over a period of time. A good migration plan should be like my first car. Do not get me wrong! I love the very first car that I owned! Would I drive it today? Safety issues: No! Mileage issues: No! Cool looks for todays incrowd: Heck NO! I have sold, and traded cars over a period of time, and now I have a car that gives me the pleasure, and the value that I deserve. I still have a soft spot for my first car, and I have a soft spot for the very first surveillance system that I installed. I think you have a good system, and a good migration plan to protect your valuables! -
http://www.avtech.com.tw/english/product_13.htm Look for it here, and then send me a PM with your email address, DVR type, and I will send you a pdf.

Microsoft bows to pressure to extend Windows XP’s stay http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/tech-news/?p=1262&tag=nl.e019 Microsoft has bowed to pressure from customers and will allow large manufacturers to continue selling PCs with Windows XP preloaded until June 30, 2008. This is an additional five months from the original January 31, 2008 date. If you recall, we reported just last week on how Microsoft has softened its stance and has been quietly allowing PC makers to furnish a “downgradeâ€
