Very dissatisfied with DiVis...

What is the IR range on your camera? Take that distance, and cut it in half, and this will be your effective range. If it is wireless than the LEDs that they put in the camera will not draw a lot of power as it is designed to work off of a 9 volt battery, which means the IR LEDs will not be very powerful. I am guessing that they have a range of 10 to 15 feet, but this is good as someone standing near that camera is going to be 5 or 6 feet away from that camera, and bam, busted on tape! If you have a lot of trees, and you have a "canopy" then you will get a little more distance out of it. -

The wireless camera is not going to be the problem. What are you using a Swann wireless? I do not understand why you would buy that board based on your computer skills. I will assume that this is birthday gift that was purchased for you, or is this something that you picked up off of EBAY on a fire sale? I assume you have orderd the development kit. http://www.divisdvr.com/sources/pd_sdk.htm Now that you do not like the software will you be trading to a different product? You are using a wireless product that is probably listed at 300 feet line of sight, or it is listed at 100 milliwatts of power. This is probably on 2.4G herts which tells me this system is not being used for security purposes. It is being used for simple home surveillance. If this is the case then the divis should blend in to this set up with no problems. I believe this is a 16 channel DVR, and you say it is 120 FPS. What is 120 frames per second divided by 16? 7.5 FPS? That may be the start of the choppy video. What kind of mother board/chipset are you using? There may be some compat probs with you M/B. I bet you have this Divis in a really nice M/B with an AMD chipset. This would confuse me as it should work fine with this setup. If you have another setup than post it so we can take a look. I would not be concerned about the choppy video as long as it gives you the video that you need in case you are broken in to. If security is of the essence then I would suggest going to a different product. A security system with 16 channels should cost you more than $300.00 other wise it is just a toy. -
Is there a way to do this on a small scale? 16-32 cameras? What kind of virtual matrix is priced at the entry level point? Is there a way of making an NVR for such a small application? I am not interested in purchasing 2 nvidia SLI for quad screens, although I find the concept very interesting! I would like to set something like this up in a City Hall design. This would make an excellant "back bone" for what I need. I have an IT closet on every floor which would allow me to add cameras as needed in the future. Anyone have any info on a rack mounted analog to IP converter for the cameras ran with cat5 passive? Thanks!

How many jobs? I may relocate some of my guys who may want to see the sights!

I would like to make a different suggestion. I recommend hiring a local company to do the work. They can give you proper lens selection, camera selection, and related equipment selection. Should there be any problems down the road they can take care of it for you. You can ask if they have loaner equipment while yours is out for repairs. If price is of the essence rather than proper security then ask local dealers about their entry level products. I tend to be leary of these internet sites that pop up out of nowhere. When they first come out of the box, they may have a budget for various forms of advertisment to get people to their web site, and after they have been running for a period of time, and the marketing money has dried up, they are stuck with no new bodies coming to their site. Since they went "low ball pricing", they do not have the income to support more advertising to keep customers coming in. Since they are on the internet they can just close doors, and go away. It is a little harder for a local company in a town to do that. OK! You are right. A fly by night company can come to your town, and set up shop, make a few bucks, and then disapear over night. In this case you can go to your county/city/state websites to see if they are licensed. If you have their name you can do a search to see if they have been arrested. If they have a dubious past then you can make an informed decision. If they do not have the proper licenses then this is obviously a red flag. Do you know how to do this with an internet site? You can start with a WHOSIS search to start with. I would suggest that you buy from me. I would also tell you that is a mistake as I am not local to you. In my area I am actually a little on the high side of pricing. Those that have bought from me have learned how it is now worth everypenny when things go bad. I have one client where I brought out a loaner system to get them up and going after a lightning strike. (Warranty states from manufacture that acts of god are not covered). I had him back up with a generator until an electrical company could rewire his box, and get his power up and going. This was not my job to do that, but then I take "security" seriously. I have gotten more jobs out of "acts of kindness". Now he has to decide what he is going to do for a new system. In the mean time he is not going to get ripped off. Do your homework on the internet sites, and you should be fine. If it is to cheap then be wary.

That would be one hell of a commute from the islands!

Then there is the opposite effect. There is a "everything is included" home builder in our area. You cannot do anything in the house! You have to wait till the owners move in, and then you can do a retro fit! AAAAAAAAAAArrrrrggggg! Low voltage is not to bad on a single story home, but a retro fit central vac really sucks! Oops, I made a pun. I really hate going down, and drilling out holes in "firestops" to run cent vac pipes. It is so much easier to do it during the const phase. I love looking at the eyes of people who demand a retro fit cent vac system. YOU WANT HOW MUCH?????

You will be using the black, and the white wire for the audio. As for the shield, does it have an uninsullated wire with it? If there is a wire with the shield then this would be connected to ground at the dvr end, but at the other end you will not be connecting this shield wire to anything. If you connect the shielded wire at both end then it defeats the shielding. This kind of wiring was very common with intercom systems. They have switched to cat 5, and they no longer use the shielded two conductor wire with intercoms systems.

A/B You are sending voltage to the mike to power it. C/D This is your audio coming from the mike, and this is to be connected to your DVR, or what ever it is that you are attaching to. Are you using 12 volts for your camera power? Then you may want to use 12 volts to power your microphone. You can use a 16/2 wire.

There is a photo of a "co conspirator" leaving a casino lobby who is involved with the O.J. Simpson fiasco. The photo is being shown on the news. The carpet is a very "busy" design in the background of the photo. Is this a D1 recorded video shot?

I have been looking for a link, and I cannot find it. I posted the thread as the photo was being shown on the news. I was depending on the responder of the thread to have seen the news footage. This is the one, and only link that I have been able to find, but I do not know if it has been "tampered" with or resized for the web article. I saved the photo to my computer, and brought it back up, but it does not look the same as when it aired on t.v. It now appears more pixelated in this photo. It is the picture of the two guys. One man is carrying a cardboard box. I was just asking out of curiosity if someone recognized their own equipment. http://www.lvrj.com/news/9872557.html Las Vegas police released images captured by video surveillance at the Palace Station on Thursday night. Police believe the two unidentified men accompanied O.J. Simpson during an armed robbery of two sports memorabilia dealers and are carrying items out of the hotel after the robbery. Anyone with information about their identities is asked to call the robbery section at 828-3591. Photo courtesy of the Metropolitan Police Department. -

6300AC/ 6300VF AC=24AC VF =12DC 6500 has 492 Feet of IR. I have never used the 6500, and the 6300 I use to watch boats on private docks, or to watch a Hummer in a very large driveway. If you are not familiar with it, the only drawback is to change the mm setting you have to manually open the back, slide out the camera framework, make your adjustments, refocus, and then reslide the framework back inside, and screw on the back cover, and rehang. The photo cell that controls the IR is on the back, and installed on boat docks it may pick up the lights that are installed, and preventing the IR from activating. If you are not familiar with it you can take this camera on to a dock, and you can illuminate the boats 2, or 3 docks away with no problem! I have never used it for license plate capture so I cannot tell you how it works for that application. It is a rock solid camera for homeowners associations that want to watch the front gates. PS My kudos to the developers who build the club houses next to the front gates! Thank you very much! I wish more developers would do this! -

I have never installed GE, and I have installed ICRealtime. Has anyone installed both that can give me a cross comparison? -
These are usually short term situations. I use anything I can get my hands on. It could be child's play doh, or silly putty, or in a pinch chewing gum. For long term situations, I would not know what to recommend due to environmental factors, electrical codes, etc. I do not know the fire capacity of "clay" in a plenum, or an A/C duct. Sometime a self tapping screw that looks like a drywall screw can be used. Then there is always our trusted friend the "100 mile an hour tape" (duct tape). I have used silicone sealant also, but I usually do not have the time to wait for it to dry. ______________________________________________________ For those reading this thread: Play doh can be used in window frames to mount a camera for short term uses. Just do not forget that the glass becomes a mirror at night, and you will be recording the interior instead. IR cams in windows at night will flood itself with IR, and blind itself.

Thanks for the Link. I have never heard of them.

I need a day night camera that can see about 100ft at night?

You said the Speco CVC-637EX/W do not work without lighting, and that you have no video when it is dark? If they have been running for three years, and still going then I would say the quality is good. Having the right camera in the right environment makes a big difference! For the price these cameras are great, but for the job i do not think they cut the mustard. It must be real difficult during the winter time when it get dark real early in the day. -
