    RG-11 ?? Coaxial Cable

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&msa=0&t=k&om=1&msid=112640594629260770661.000438e2d2fc740314126&ll=29.471781,-95.372652&spn=0.001625,0.002435&z=18 In the red areas that are marked, where are we watching? The center of the red area? This will allow us to see the middle area to the back end of the marked area. If you are interested in watching the close to the camera area then we may not get the back part of the area. If I was forced to cover a narrow but very deep "triangle" then I would have to put the camera farther back, and then use a super zoom lens to compress the area. As narrow, and deep as this triangle is, I would prefer to mount a camera in the middle, and use a wide angle to get the far left, and the far right, and not have to worry about viewing deep.

    covert external motion detector

Install decorative fountains. This will mask the noise from the "click" of a detector. It can be as simple as a self feeding cheapo. You can also put a "switch" on a ped, and put a magnet in the bottom of the fountain. If they tip it, you have another alarm.

    cctv problem help please

I think that you have a bad camera. The camera works fine. At night the photo cell activates the LEDs, and your problems start. I cannot guess as to what is going on. I am guessing, but I think you said that you took the camera down, and you hooked it up directly to your DVR, and you still see this black bar going down the TV screen. If this is the case then yes, you have isolated the problem to the camera. I would send it back. I hope this still has a warranty, or the company backs it up! Looks like you did a good job trouble shooting! I am impressed! I find it difficult trying to explain to people how to go about doing what you did! You should invest some money, and start a multimillion dollar company installing CCTV! What would be really nice is that the problem is in the bnc to rca adapter! I have seen this before!

    RG-11 ?? Coaxial Cable

What kind of Cat 5 will you be using? Regular Cat 5? Or will you be using outdoor rated heavy duty Cat 5? I concur with jeromephone about the RG 11. On the other hand, Yes you can use it. You may want to test it with a camera, and a monitor prior to running it. *If it is aluminum braided I would avoid it.* For this long run you will want to run AC instead of DC. I am confused? Quote "Evening all i have sold a gentleman on a lower tier DVR and camera system and when i collected the deposit check he wanted to add several cameras over a thousand feet away from the DVR to view some commercial swim/scuba/fish/rv spot rental areas on a sand pit on the same piece of land." Unquote Low tier, and then he want a commercial set up, but then again he want to save some money using cable that he already has on hand? Who is going to be responsible for the wiring? If I did the project I would have him sign a written waiver about the wiring. I would want to provide the wire, and then I would provide the warranty on the wire. If I ran his wire, and something were to go wrong he would still have to pay the labor rate. I find most customers act as if they do not have to pay for the install as the wire did not work as to the liking. Then things get a little bitter. I pulled this on a friend of mine. I showed up to his restaurant, and I handed him some eggs, and a package of bacon, and a loaf of bread. He thought I was joking, and I was serious. He finally figured out the point that I was making. He said now I get it. I do not know if these bacon, and eggs have been kept at temp. You might get sick, and I was the one that cooked it! If I were taking on a project this big, and if I was doing it on a shoe string, then I would want something in trade. I would want the project to be of news worthy for TV, or for print. If it does not get my photo, name, or some kind of recognition, then I would not do it. Companys that install CCTV in my area always low ball city, or county projects, and they get their name in the paper. So, and So company install cameras for the local police dept. If you are installing cameras for the police dept then you must be a reputable company. People will be calling on you after seeing this on TV, or in the newspaper. Ask jisaacmagee, he will tell you what TV exposure is worth! http://www.cctvforum.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=1077 ______________________________________________________ Now lets get your wire up, and going!!! The other question is how are you going to attach the Cat 5 to the Poles? If you run Cat 5, you will still have to run cable for the camera power. I would look for Cat 5 rated for outdoor use, and then I would want it to have a messenger wire so that I can hang it with hooks, and eyes. This is what the cable installers do from the pole to your house. I would not want any tension on the Cat 5 itself. You will have to do the same with the camera power cable as well. This is three cables that will have to run from pole to pole. They will have to be strung one above the other. You will want at least a one foot seperation, more if the poles are tall enough. I would imagine that you can bundle all of the wires together and then zip strip them to a tension wire. The other question is; Who owns the pole? Who paid for them? You may have to ask for permission if they belong to the power company. Outdoor installations require special installation techniques that will enable the cable to withstand harsh environments. When using cable in an aerial application, lash the cable to a steel messenger wire. This will help support the cable and reduce the stress on the cable during wind, snow, and ice storms. When direct burying a cable, lay the cable without tension so it will not be stressed when earth is packed around it. When burying in rocky soil, fill the trench with sand. In cold climate areas, bury the cable below the frost line. ________________________________________________________ I am glad that you spec lighting protection, and surge suppression. _________________________________________________________ I am glad to hear that he wants battery back up! This is the hardest sell, and you are way ahead of the Game! Good Job! How long of battery back up will he want? Several hours? 24 hours? How about solar as a backup? ____________________________________________________________ Will you need to do license plate recognition? The area that we are watching at each camera, how far away is this from each camera? This will determine what kind of camera we will need at each location, and what kind of lens selection we will choose. Will this have to work at night without moonlight? If security is of the essence then you will want to use Extreme CCTV products. These will retail in the $1,500 to $2000.00 each. If security is not of the essence then your choices are wide open for camera selection. _________________________________________________________ Quote "The cameras he wants to add to view the commercial operations will be 1 located on the garage structure and looking accross the corner of the large lake to the south east corner where he now has several picnic table hut structures that seem to be drawing the "loud crowd" UnQoute What is he wanting with these cameras? Facial recognition, or does he just want an overview of everything that is going on in this area? _________________________________________________________ Quote "The other 2 cameras he wants to locate on the telephone pole on the north side of both lakes that is in the middle of the drive between the two lakes, he wants one to look at the gate between the two lakes and one to look back east in front of the rv spots." This is why I was asking about license plate recognition. _________________________________________________________ This is going to get real fun now! I think we can make it happen!

    cctv problem help please

Here is an article about camera problems. http://www.cctvforum.com/cms_view_article.php?aid=42 Here is a thread on ground loop problems. http://www.cctvforum.com/about8494.html I believe you have a ground loop problem. Here is a quick way to test for one of many causes of Ground Loop (GL). Remove the camera from the mount. If you have to isolate it from the wall use some cardboard, or some material that will not conduct electricity. Go, and look at your monitor. Did the black lines go away? I am guessing that they have. You will have to use plastic bolts, washers, and nuts to isolate the camera from what you have it mounted to. If the black lines are still there then you will have to try a variety of things. If it is possible to get another cable, and hook it up to your DVR, and just run it along the ground to your camera. Hook it up to your camera, and go look at your monitor to see if the bands have gone away. They should have. This may mean you will have to replace the cable. If you are lucky you may only have to replace the connectors, (assuming these are crimp, twist on, or compression style connectors). Do you still have the bands? Oh Boy! You have got some really serious issues. I would swap one camera with another, and see if the bands follow to another channel of the DVR. If the bands went away, but went to another channel then the camera is bad. It is possible that the power supply is bad, and is injecting this "black band" on to your camera, or cameras. Try substituting this power supply. Let us know how the tests came out!

HELP with an IN PROGRESS project

60+!!!! WOW! The sad part is that they are not even worth 5 bucks on EBAY!! LOL! How did you end up with all of those?? Denise became very ill last year. She has recovered, and is doing pretty well. I have met her, but I do not know her. Jimmy is doing pretty good from what I here. He has a construction company, and he has some high end home rentals. If he is like some of my well to do customers, then he is having a heart attack like my customers over the property tax going from $2000.00 a year to $12,000 a year! That would make my hair stand on end!! LOL! I have looked at the map, and converted it to google earth. Looks like a very nice area! I was busy at the office, and now I am busy with my kids. Yea! I pretend that my kids are bothering me, but I crack up over some of the stuff they do! The boy is 2, and the girl is 5. They amaze me all of the time. I would be glad to render an opinion.

You were probabley with Satelite Home Theater. The owners name is Jimmy Soderlund. He has more trophys, plaques etc for being the largest installer in the southeast.
  20. Ditto! I want to prequalify my customers! I hate wasting my time doing a show, and tell, and then have someone turn around, and buy a system somewhere else that uses phone plugs for the wiring. When I spot these tire kickers, I give them advice on what to look for. I know they are not going to buy from me, but when they call me down the road for an upgrade at least they bought bnc products. I tell them that I am the most expensive as well. I want to make sure they have a need, and that they appreciate service, more than price.

4 Cameras To PC - System Design Help Please

I held back from answering you as I am not in your country. My advice is to avoid using wireless. At least on the cheap end. To do it right is very expensive. I use wireless as a solution provider to a problem, but I prefer run wires when I can. I do not know the construction of your building. I am used to the buildings here in the USA that use drywall, and they have attics where I can run my wires. I have never done a brick building so I could not give advice there. The Ideal range of cameras? Use the most expensive that you can afford. You can use a more expensive camera for the very most important spot, and you can save a little on the spot that may not require as much importance. For instance. On a 16 camera system in a bar, I want the best camera at the front door, and the back door, and where ever they count the money. I can use really cheap stuff where the pool tables are, and I can use mid priced stuff elsewhere. If it has to be really cheap I have even use 1 inch by 1 inch mini cameras attached to the support of the false ceilings. Spend as much as you can. You may not need it now, but there will come a day that you wished you had. To route the cables you will have to describe your building, and your construction type. If I cannot help you then I would refer you to someone who can. Can the wires be routed to a wireless point, and then transmitted to PC? Yes. You will need to run the camera video to an encoder then hook it up to your wifi access point. Given it's on 2.4 GHz band, will this just cause too much interference? Yes if it is a regular wireless analog signal such as a wireless camera with the transmitter built in. If you have the camera hooked up to an encoder, and this hooked up to a wifi access point then you are using it in a way that will not interfere with the computer's signal as you are on the same path. They can cohabitate but this means some isolation is required. Such as the camera wireless system on one side of a building, and the 802.11 on the opposite side of the building. You will then have to experiment to reduce the interference.
  22. I agree with you 100%. When I am using one of my older computers, and I want to check on a customers DVR via remote view than I have to resize the screen. When I watch the video, it does not appear right. The colors are off, and it appears very pixalated. I then have to go back to properties, and select a high color 16 bit option to bring in the video. I do not use this computer much, and it gets me everytime I do! LOL! Majority of my DVRs out there are standalones using video server S or E. OOOOPS! Did I say Standalone in the PC Based System? Sorry! My faux pax!

    camera recommendations?

I noticed that you had several SCD listed. SCD has been pretty good to me, and I can not complain about the service, or the tech support. I have never used any of the cameras that you have listed from SCD. This is one that I have used. I highly recommend it, and I use it alot. No it is not on par with the EXtreme brand, but this is more in my price range. I recommend....... CFC6300VF Color High Resolution 5-50mm 280’ IR Security Camera • 480 Lines of Resolution Sony Super HAD CCD • 280 Foot Night-Time IR Range • 14 Long Range IR LED's & 21 Wide Angle IR • Built-In Electronic Photo-Cell • Tough IP-67 Rated Aluminum Housing • 5-50mm Varifocal Lens • Power 12 VDC _____________________________________________ For the 24 volt series the model number is... CFC6300AC Same specs with AC instead. I use this for Hummers, and small yachts, or any expensive vehicle!! I use these for motorized gated communities as well. I am not saying that you need this for both locations, but I would recommend it for at least one place, and save a little on the other spot.
  25. How far away from the camera is the area that you are watching? I believe the 6mm lens may be a mismatch if you are watching a distance from the camera. You may want to get a camera with a vari focal lens. This will allow you to select the right view to match the area you are watching. If you security needs were to change down the road the then the vari focal will make your camera more adaptable to meet any challenge.
