Rory, I think you meant to say "sister". -

Burglary Alarm Company Sued by Murder Victim's Family

I do find it interesting that no siren was sounding, noting that the man sleeping with the gun was not woke up. If the phone wire was cut, this would not effect the siren. I suspect the criminal has access to the house, such as child visitation, or something to this effect. While having some access to the house I think he disabled the system in some way. Is it possible that he pulled the Xfmr out of the socket? What is the trouble report time frame? Every 24 hour? Then again if the panel was set up right, then the power failure should have created a local alert, and a transmitted aler. Things that make you go HMMMMMM! -
If you are an installer you can get one through your distributor most likely. If you are not an installer then I would recommend getting out a 13" TV out of your closet, or you can buy one at wally world, or the big red bullseye store for about $85.00. Just make sure that it has a yellow rca connector on the front, or the back. (This is written for others who read this post. You seem to know electronics pretty good. Please excuse the "basics"). TVs are automatically pulling video off the screw on connector on the back called the F connector. Here is how you can get video with the yellow RCA connector... http://www.cctvforum.com/cms_view_article.php?aid=41 On some TVs to activate the composite signal it is a simple as pressing the channel down button until you get to channel 2. When you press the down button one more time this will activate the AUX, or GAME input. This should bring back your video. If it does not, then you may have to find the remote control to the TV, and you will have to find a button that is marked as one of the following: SOURCE, or INPUT, Aux, or the button may be marked as GAME. Press this button, and it should reactivate your composite signal input. For those TVs with multiple inputs, you may have to press this button several times. You will see an On Screen Display (OSD), and it will show you input 1, input 2, input 3, input 4, and so forth. It may show High Definition 1 (HD), High Definition 2, S video, Composite 1, and Composite 2. Keep pressing your button until the composite is highlighted. On some TVs you may have to press a "select" button after you have highlighted composite. ___________________________________________________________ I do not know how you were able to read a 12 volt reading with a meter. I believe this was a reading with out a load (meaning the camera was not hooked up at the time of the reading). Figure a way to plug the camera back in, with a way to take a voltage reading with the camera as the load. I made a rig where I have a male, and a female plug that has been soldered together. I put this in line with the camera, and then I can get my reading under load. Since you are running siamese it should be pretty easy to get the reading with the butt connectors, or twist on caps, or what ever you are using. ________________________________________________________ How to trouble shoot cameras http://www.cctvforum.com/cms_view_article.php?aid=42 .......If you have video at the camera, then this tells us that you are getting power to the camera, and the camera is putting out a video signal! This means the power side of your cable is OK! This means the problem with the wire is on the video side of your cable. If you do not have video then the power side of your cable is bad. There may be a situation that the wire is ok, but the connectors on the end are giving you the problem. Disconnect the cable to your camera, and your TV, and reconnect the cable to your camera. You can try wiggling the connector on the back of the camera, and on the back of your DVR, (or your recording device), and see if your video "pops" in, and out. If your video pops in, and out then this connector is what is giving you the grief. You can wiggle it to the point that it stays on until you can get a new cable to replace it. ........(or recrimp a new crimp on connector). I hope this was of some help. Scorpion

HELP ! DISTANCE LIMIT FOR RG6/U CONNECT TO A DOME CAMERA
scorpion replied to ahsoonbaby's topic in System Design
Is it possible that you are having a power problem rather than video problem. If you swapped cameras, and your video looks good, then it may be the camera that is giving you problems, may not be getting enough power. -
Do you have a link of the video?

I remember playing with the TRS - 80 or known as the trash 80. I do not miss loading programs with cassette tapes that is for sure!

How do you attach the wire that comes out of the housing, and attaches to the mount? It sound like you have a "quick disconnect" connection at mount? The rope pulls the wire, and the "loop" is broken causing the alarm. I like this idea! I have never thought of that! Anyone have any cameras that have been shot?

4CH Videos + X Signal Coaxial Cable Transceiver

I would like to learn more about the product. Are you retailing them, or wholesaleing them? Will you PM me a web link? Thanks -
Can you take wall transformer, and hook it up to one camera, and see if the video comes back in. I truely do not know the problem, but I sway to the side of not enough power to the cameras.

Remember the captive who was blinking morse while being video taped?

I def do not miss the days when my dad would send me down to the local drug store to use the tube tester to find out what was wrong with the TV!

I hope those were the rerun versions after school in the early 70's. "when Flipper, The Partridge family, My Favorite Martin, and the Monkey's were a "Family" after school thing." What about I love Lucy, Gilligans Island, bionic man? Speaking of that I hear they are bringing back The Bionic Woman! CQ DX, CQ DX, I hope you were not singing the Convoy Song from C.W. McCall. I like the idea of putting the 2nd camera back farther away, and then using a high millimeter lens to zoom back up on the 1st camera. I use 220X camera to watch a CVS pharmacy from catty corner across a 4 lane intersection, and turning lanes. The store is 300 feet from the camera. I can zoom in on the telephone pole on the back of the property, and I can tell you if it is a boy, or a girl squirrel!!

I install a high number of very cheap, entry level priced systems. I use AVTech, CPCam, and Eclipse products. You can not get a better product from a big warehouse club. Although those club products are finally starting to catch up. If it has to be cheap, and it has to be good then forget about the DVR. Spend your money on a very heavy duty battery back up system with high end power filtration. Use surge protectors on your camera cables. Purchase better grade power supplys for the cameras. _____________________________________________________ I do not design by buying a DVR. You have to look at what you are protecting. How much value do you have to loose? Will you be remote viewing? Where will the DVR be located. You can only bring the wires out of the attic with interior walls. Do not put the DVR in the attic, or in the garage. _____________________________________________________ You need to build layer upon layers for security. 1. Lock doors, and windows. 2. Cut back bushes/trees. 3. Install lighting 4. Install film that prevents glass shatter, and penetration. 5. Upgrade doorlocks 6. Use, or install burglar alarm system 7. Video surveillance 8. Police presence. Call for a drive by to watch out for things while vacationing 9. Remote video monitoring. Hope this helps _________________________________________________________

AVTECH DVR - Can someone offer a demo?
scorpion replied to sabotage's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Hello! I do not have a link for you to look at. I install this DVR alot! It is an entry level DVR, and It Is what It Is, but I think for the price it is great. I may suggest the 781, but the 760 is great! I am happy with the menu setup, motion detect, and the internet setup. I hope this helps in your selection. Scorpion
