What cable type is needed to run Video and Power underground
scorpion replied to jsavchak's topic in General Digital Discussion
Not knowing your sistuation, I would recommend using some kind of pvc conduit even if you are running direct bury. There will always be someone coming along with a shovel for some reason, and this would help protect it. If you were putting in non burial wire, then I recommend the kind of pvc piping that they use for sprinklers. It is a continuous long run with no breaks. If you use the 10 foot sections of pvc, then use a colored glue. You can check your work one last time before you drop the dirt back in. If you see the color glue then you know you are good to go. It is reduntant if you are installing on you own, but I recommend it if you have employees, or subs doing it for you. Do not use 90 degree elbows. Use the swept elbows. If you ever have to pull the wire out, the sharp turns will prevent you from taping a new line to the old line, and pulling it through. I actually try not to use elbows, and use the conduit to make very large bends to go the direction that I want. I only use swept elbows going in the ground, and coming up out of the ground. -

OPEN A DOOR REMOTELY AND ALSO 2 way AUDIO ?
scorpion replied to badbeats310's topic in System Design
I do not have enough information as to what you are doing. I assume you are remotely watching video, and you want to be able to open a door remotely? Is this a residence, business, or an apartment? Is there a budget for your DVR, and is there a budget for your access control? I was curious to who would be coming in? -
What kind of wireless units are you using? Are they the kind with little antenna on them? Will this be used outdoors? Will you be using outdoor external antennas? What is the distance from transmitter (camera/transmitter), and the receiver? Will you be penetrating any walls between the two?

I would recommend vari focal lens. If you have several cameras watching the front cashiers, and then they build a holiday display you can change your lens to a different setting, and you can reorient the cameras to look elsewhere. This will make your system more flexible as different security needs arise. You can reorient the cameras, and "zoom" in on the candy aisle when the kids are giving you grief, and then you can reorient some of the cameras when you suspect employees are taking beer, or cigarettes home with them. Where are you located?

How do you get the composite signal to the security center? I did not know if you had raised floors where the wire runs are hidden? I did not think you would use wireless analog, but I could see you running WiFi.
-
I was not sure what you were wanting? You said that you wanted each camera to have it own IP address. For a multichannel webserver this might be the ticket for you. It is from a company called webgate. They have a 6 channel server.
-
I would assume that the keyfobs are all on the same channel, or did you zone each fob? How would they know what room to go to if a FOB was triggered? Did you have it programmed with voice? Thanks!

Nice! I am glad to see the manufactures are proactive!

New house, cable questions...
scorpion replied to David448's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Can you run your own wires? If you bought the wire on your own, and you drilled your own holes, and you ran it yourself what would they say? I had one contractor that said what ever you want to do, and the other said he would press trespass charges if I came on the property! I think he was joking. I ran my wire the day before the drywall went up just incase! -

Excellant idea having two RG 6, and two cat 5!!! If you can afford it (or trade off one feature to gain this feature), I would tell you to run this 2/2 at two locations in each room. Imagine having a computer desk on the left wall, and your cat5 jack on the right wall! You can run a wire all the way around the room, but then you might have closet doors, or the entry door in your way. 2/2 is great for structured wiring or "smart house wiring"! Do not forget to have 2/2 put out on the outside patio! This is a luxury, but then you can put a TV out there, and watch the game. If you take a laptop out there you can plug in to a cat5 jack, and you can plug in a telephone also. Put one in the garage as well. Look at the floor plan, and see where it would be a common area where someone would put a bench out there. Great to search for automotive stuff on the internet while working on projects out in the garage. You do not have to use 2/2 wrapped in one cover. They could use two individual RG 6, and two cat 5 for the run. If they do not charge two much to run cat 5, have one ran to the masterbedroom bathroom. You can answer your "business" calls in your "office"! LOL! Have a front door system that use the telephone to comunicate. When the door bell is pressed your telephone rings with a special front door ring. You can answer the door with any telephone. If you are having central vac then have them run a wire so that when the phone rings the central vac will turn off. If you are having a two story house built DO NOT HAVE THE PANEL INSTALLED DOWN STAIRS! If you put it upstairs you can get to the back side from the attic. This is great for troubleshooting, or adding more stuff down the road. If you put it down stairs, put it in a place where you can still add/run wire. Avoid putting it under the stairs in a closet. You will never be able to run wire, or fix a wire, or create some kind of electronic magic with it in this location. You can alway cut your drywall down the road if you wanted! Always use the best specs! Cheap will hurt in the long run. Do not use a center conductor on RG 6 where it is a copper clad!!!!!!! Demand all copper center conductor! You will want the best shield, and not the cheapest shield! Find out how cat 5 should be ran so that you can get good specs out of it for computing. Watch the installers like a hawk! Don't let anyone do it. It has to be done in a special way. No sharp 90 degree bends! Do not let them take staples, and pound them against the wire, and kink it. When they pull the wire they cannot pull on it like they are yanking on a rope to ring a church bell!! If they are pulling wire, and it curls up don't yank it straight, it will kink up the wire! -
I only use the the AvTech AVC776. (Branded under another name) I don't think this will meet your specs! I would look at the ICRealtime Flex 8. I have used this before. Nice machine. In playback it will show you two screens. The detail is incredible! You will have to ask for the a part number called R30 for 30fps for each channel!

OOOOOOOOh! I'm telling! You said a bad word! WIRELESS! Let put the receivers next to the wireless linksys router so that we can use the linksys battery back up for the camera receivers! (if you didnt get the joke read more from the forum)!

I wonder if game table manufactures can put hidden cams along the interior edge looking towards the center of the table? Nice fantasy huh?

What is going on with 1.2Ghz? I know there has been some shifting in FCC freqs, and some auction sales. I tried to purchase 1.2Ghz receiver, and my dist has quit carrying these devices. Those of you who sale wholesale and have a receiver in stock would you be kind of enough to PM me. Thanks!

I have the same problem with what I call gift card casinos. We actually had an owner build a floor planter with a lattice backing in front of the door, (on the outside). Flowering vines were put into the planter. Made a big difference for the camera! Why can't I find more level headed customers like him?

If you placed cameras at the entry ways would that not give you the facial shot as they are coming in? This would exclude masked bandits, ect. If masked bandits were to burst in, would a security team go in to action?

While I was working on a computer I was watching the Food Network Pizza competition. They had to throw the pizza in to the air the highest to win this competition. They had to make the largest pizza dough in another, and they had to bake a pizza for the judges to taste, and vote for the best pizza. Many years ago in the subshop business we used to have the fastest sub maker contest. Fast, and no dropped ingredients. Each dropped ingredient counted as a point, and this would be added to your speed score. What about us CCTV guys? What kind of contest can we have? Set up stations of camera systems, and the first tech to trouble shoot all of the tech issues wins the prize! Fastest cable puller. You pull a bundle of wire through a "maze", and the fastest time wins. All wires have to provide a video! Build a PC CCTV from parts while blindfolded, and the system has to work! What are your ideas?

I have a question for you UMDRanger: I want to stock items in the showroom for small "mom and pop" businesses. What do you recommend that I stock to help with loss prevention. I would not want to carry the expensive devices, and RFID tags. For the nightclub/bar business I carry metal detectors, video surveillance (like I really had to list V.S), and other items. I do have a motion detector that can be placed near a door so a shop owner can "hear" someone coming in. When the door is locked, then they can set the motion to Alarm. This is a cheap self contained device, and it does not "call out to monitoring stations". I carry metal pins so that you can drill holes in windows to secure them. They are great for sliding glass doors as well. I have a door stop alarm. You can open a door six inches, and place the door stop under it. Should someone come through the door the alarm goes off. This will allow you to open up for the breeze in the fall, and spring here in Florida. You can open the door all the way, and with the alarm off, you can prop it open. I have driveway alerts, and I have a barking dog. If you knock on the door it starts barking its head off. I like this. It will actually make someone think twice to break in. Not because you think it is a dog, but because of the noise it makes. We also have pepper spray, and stun guns, and stun flashlights. We have some employers that bought our drug test kits, and lie detectors, and they place them on the table, after they put in ad for people to show up at a time, and date for apps, and interviews. It is amazing how accurate people fill out their applications. It is amazing how many people reach for a blank app, then just walk out! Any inexpensive loss prevention devices that I am not thinking of?

I am laughing so hard I can't dial the phone to call the police! If he needed it that badly he could have just asked! Would this make it a criminal trying to catch a criminal? I hope he catches his "crook". In all honesty I thought it was a set up from one of my friends! I called around, and said funny! Ha! Ha! Sofar everyone has said that they wished that they had thought of that kind of prank to begin with!

I have never worked with that software. I am not familiar with anyother facial recognition software. There is a facial recognition system called Bio Bouncer. www.biobouncer.com They provide the camera, software, and the recording equipment as a system.

And to think you never would have known! Could you imagine not having a system? -
Hello Antigon! I am glad that we are able to put a lot of "cards" on the table for you to look at! Now you can make an informed decision! Question: Will you be paying for this out of your own pocket? Will the ships captain be paying for this? Will the ships owner be paying for this system? If you are paying for this out of your own pocket, will you need to get the ship owner's permission to install it?
