Getting AVTECH 760 to record motion only
scorpion replied to Haines1's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Yes. In the menu you should see manual record. Make it say off In the menu you should see motion record. Make it say on. Make sure you have the cameras activated, and make sure you remove the pink in the motion fields. -
It sounds like you pick a port number that is the same as what your router uses. Instead of going to your DVR you are logging in to your router. Change the port number on your DVR. Does this correct the issue? Have you gone here to verify your WAN address? www.ipchicken.com? What do you think?

You say that you have tried various version of Video Viewer and you have the same problem with all of them. This tells me that the software is not the problem, and that the computer is the problem. Do you have a firewall? You may have clicked NO and you may have closed off a path for the software to work. Try turning off all of your antivirus, firewall, and other protective software, and disconnect from the internet. Look at the various folders in Video Viewer, and write down the different players, and DLLs. Remove all versions of video viewer in ADD / Remove Programs. Do a search for all of the players, and DLL, and such. Delete anything that comes up in the search related to Video Viewer. If unsure then do not delete it. Reload Video Viewer and it should work. If it does not work after this then you have a problem with your computer. ****************************************** I do not take any responciblity for the following! Seek help! Download this Before running make a restore point on your computer. If you have a DVD burner then make a backup of your computer. Ask a friend, or google how to do it. Save your pictures first! Make sure the pictures copied correctly to your thumbdrive, or to a CD, or a DVD before performing anywork on your computer. Make sure you have all of your program disks, or make a copy of your software to a USB thumbdrive. Seek help!! Download CCleaner http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner Run the above software as is out of the box. Do not add extra check marks unless you are a computer expert, and know what you are doing. It is possible that things may get removed, and you have have to go back, and make corrections, or setup programs again. Next go to this website and download Malwarbytes. http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html Save it, and run it. It may take 20 minutes or it may take an hour depending on the amount of files on your computer. Next go here to Bit Defender Online Scanner. This may take another hour. http://www.bitdefender.com/scanner/online/free.html Click on start scanner, and another window will open. Click on the agreement, and then click on start scanner. You will need to allow for active X. Run the active X. Next go here to Eset online scanner http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/ This should clean up any infections, viruses, spyware, and malware. You should be able to reload your Video Viewer. ************************************** If you have Windows XP, and you are very brave then you can run Combofix after CCleaner, and before anything else. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix The download button is hidden as BleepingComputer.com above the filedownload security warning picture. Run combofix. This will clean up the serious infections. Do NOT RUN COMBO FIX ON VISTA, OR WIN 7 unless you are an expert's expert with computers. It is possible that Combofix will break something on your computer. Actually it will remove a bad virus, but the virus rebuilt paths in your computer. The virus may have changed how your antivirus works, or it may redirect you on the internet. Removing the virus will take out the travel path and you may not connect to the internet, or software may not work, or your OS will crash. There are winsock repairs out there such as http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml If you suspect that you have a really infected machine then you are better off removing your computer's hard drive, and connecting it to another computer, and running a virus scanner on that hard drive. If you have a friend, or a buddy who is a computer wiz, and he tells you not to use one of the software above then first determine his/her level of computer expertise. If you are comfortable with their advice then follow it. They may have different tools that they use. Do as they say, and if anything goes wrong then you followed their advise, and now they are "responcible" to get it right. They are the expert right? I do not take any responcibility for the above. This is only a guide, and I ask that you seek help! Experts will reconize these tools, and they will know how to make adjustments for anything that goes wrong. http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html If you know computers to some degree then use ghost, or Acronis and mirror (make a copy of your hard drive) before you run any cleaners, or scanners. If something breaks then you have the original to work with Internet Search Is Your Friend! Search for info and you may find a tutorial that will explain step by step on what to do. What do you think?

Need software to access AVC774 HDD's contents.
scorpion replied to lewyx's topic in Digital Video Recorders
To my knowledge there is no emulator program that you can put on to a PC to view the hard drive contents. You will have to put out an add to locate a machine close to you, and use that DVR to get the video. -
I agree with shankarsha about the AVTech Equipment! I would prefer to see an AVC 760AS then the DR041.
-
Are you running these DVRs on inverters? I only ask as inverters do not make a perfect sine wave to generate electricity. Sounds more like a power company issue. Do you have a battery backup / UPS with line filtration? I would test that.

The AVC 777 is a product that is no longer manufactured. The official website is: http://www.avtech.com.tw/english/cctv.aspx?Type=3&Type2=3 A fan website exist with info here: http://scorpiontheater.com/cpcamtechsupport.aspx http://scorpiontheater.com/troubleshooting.aspx

Do you have a wireless router? Can you change the channel that it operates to lessen the interference of your wireless system? Can you change the channel of your transmitter, receiver to get a better reception? Have you unplugged your cordless phone to test for interference? Your system is no longer line of sight using glass in between the antennas.
-
Too many variables for failure. You can have cell phone manufacture problems, carrier problems, port issues, java issues. I would try various software such as new eagle eyes, or try GPRS, or old eagle eyes. There is not much in data to help you with. Have you loaded Eagle Eye new on your cellphone?
-
I would go with the most that you can afford. Do you use a schedule record or 24/7? Perhaps buy lower class hd for now, and upgrade later when you can put the funds to good use.
-
I would test the DVR with a clean hard drive out of the package first. This is assuming this is a dedicated DVR, and not a PC based DVR. Most dedicated DVRs take a clean non formated HD to record. Some have their own format, and are formated throught the DVR menu. You can see images, But you cannot record? It may be that they used software to copy your hard drive such as ghost, or Acronis. This may create a problem for your DVR. They may have looked at the hard drive with Linux, and this might be the issue. You may, or may not have to reset the hard drives back to a clean out of the package state. There are too many variables without know what the PC board inside of your DVR provides for a manufacture, or a model number, or posting a pic.

scorpion replied to d_guth's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I wonder if you can go to tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab and reset internet explorer settings and also delete temp internet files to see if that will restore the system? -
If you own a Spy Shop or some other business that sells pocket knives then be advised of changes coming to rules in regards to pocket knives. BUREAU OF CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION has requested changes in laws to outlaw certain knives with assistance blade openers. Some knives will fall under these changes. Pocket knives with a thumb opener will fall under this new category. As of now "one hand opening" knives are not considered "switch blades". The rule changes will includes these knives as well. BUREAU OF CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION knive ruling PDF http://www.nraila.org/pdfs/CBPkniferuling.pdf Page 11, 12 is where you will want to look. ***** I do not know all of the implications. What is said by the U.S. Customs’ proposal indicates it is directed at only the importers of assisted-opening knives. Those that oppose such changes will also create the fear factor to help the cause for them. You will hear rumors that all pocket knives will become illegal to include tool style multi tools ect. For those that have an interest I will provid some links, but you will have to decide what is said as truth, or "fear mongering". Looking for video, audio switcher or PC based multi ch
scorpion posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Hello everyone! I am looking for an inexpensive video and audio switcher. I need something that can give me two outputs for video. One: Camera/audio selected. Two: a quad, or page quad screen. The project is for interrogation to allow for quick copy to VCR on a low budget. Two holding rooms, and two interrogation rooms, and a small booking area. The video, and audio is recorded to a DVR located elsewhere. They just want to pull quick audio/video for the detectives from within the intterogation area. I know there are multiplexors out there that can do the job, and I just wanted to see what you guys could pull out of your hat! http://www.inday.com/av4x/av4x.htm (Portland Oregan) OR A PC BASED MULTI CH AUDIO, AND VID DVR. Thanks for your ideas! -
Options for budget multi channel audio, and video recording
scorpion posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
PC based is not my forte so I will defer to you experts! What would be an option for multi channel audio, and video card installed in to an Intel based M/Board on a budget? I have 5 audio, and 5 video sources. 8 ch audio, and video card is my option thus far. I will want to burn AVI video to DVD. This is a budget based as it is to replace an audio selector, and a separate video selector, and a VCR. This is for short term recording, but a pc based 24/7 recording will be fine. I am interested in all options. Thanks! -

Just to add in another quote to go with this 6 channel selector what would be an option for multi channel video, and audio recording card installed in to an Intel based M/Board on a budget? Thanks! -
It is worth it's weight in gold to have a monitor, and standing on a ladder and letting the customer see the view. What they see is what they get! It prevents alot of misconceptions, and disapointments after you have already installed the equipment. You can show the issues with wide angle view lenses that distort the distance, and show that they will not get facial shots at a distance.

Wired station interfering on my surveillance Baby Monitors?
scorpion replied to superxie's topic in General Digital Discussion
You might be picking up a neighbors baby monitor, or other device that uses the same frequency. Is your baby monitor a wireless product? What freq does it use? Perhaps you can switch to a baby monitor that used the power line to transmit audio and video? -
Pretend you are a crook. What would you grab quickly to sell for fast pocket money? How would you break in? What is the weakest entry point? How can you get in to the building without being seen? Are purses laying out within easy reach? Do they lock doors to storage areas / server rooms? What is the environment of the area? High crime verses a low crime area? How would you protect female employees from an exboyfriend, or ex husband on a rampage? How would you protect employees from a fired employee who returns for "payback". Can you take products outside and hide them in a garbage bin, or around a hidden corner of the building? Can an employee change the phone system passcode, and then forward all of the calls to a cheap cellular phone, and steal the company's business phone sales? Can an employee make changes to a computer, or a server creating a forwarding link to steal internet traffic? How much cash does the business handle in a day? If you were a thief what would you do?? How would you deter these issues? How can you better set up the equipment to make it more flexible to cover unforseen changes in the future. (using varifocal lenses instead of fixed lens for example, or installing more cable length to allow for the camera to be moved without having to run new cable ect). How can you install your equipment, and protect it from unauthorized use, or tamper? What changes can the owner make on their own to better enhance their security? Can they install tint that prevents breaking in through plate glass windows? Can they trim branches to keep someone from hiding? Can they install vegetation to enhance security. Hedges are great to force people to walk down a sidewalk rather than just walking through a yard and preventing the cameras from getting a good facial shot. What do you think?

I thinks we have a winner! -
I would have to agree with you 100%! Swann uses several different DVR models, but the one that looks like my avatar is the only one that I would buy from swann. I agree with you about the wireless cameras. They are only 100milli watt transmitters, which is about a childs walkie talkie, and my customers are trying to DX from greater distances then what they are designed for. Trying to tell customers what line of sight means, and the fact that they do not want to buy antennas, and cables, and masts makes it even worse. I give you props for going out and buying all of the stuff off the shelves. I bet you can just pick up a product from today, and know what makes it tick in 5 seconds, or less! That is experience that you cannot buy! Now you can see why there are so many Do it yourselfers on this forum looking for help! Take care,

AVTech support is an issue. They are distributor tech support, and the distributors are supposed to have their own tech support, and tech support staff. Many of the companies short change the system by not doing the tech support. Imagine if every car owner called Chevrolet in Detroit? They would be over run in 5 seconds flat. You go to the local dealership for tech support, and they refer to detroit to track the vehicles with the computer tracking system for warranty, and damage. I am sorry to hear that you are disapointed in AVTech. They do shoot themselves in the foot. They come up with a price point to sell the product then design them to meet the low budget. I have had people come back with the DVR with no valid compaint as they were only returning it because of something they read somewhere. They ask for a particular feature, and then I am forced to hand them an another company product then they keel over with a heartattack after they see the price tag. I tell them to wait as we have not got in to the pro models yet. They happily leave with the AVTech cradling it like a prized baby! LOL! OK maybe I exaggerate a little! You get what you pay for but why buy a hard core machine when something simple will work around the house. Blue ray can cost $1000, but everyone buys the $200 models. People complain about the $50.00 DVD players a wally world, but what can I say about a $50.00 DVD player. If it works then it works.

Will wireless video sender work?
scorpion replied to stuspick's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Yes. You may prefer to have a battery back up to keep it powered duing power glitches. There are some that stay on a "channel" that is selected. There are other where you have to toggle through one, two, three, and channel 4. They default back to channel 1 when the power goes out. You will have to check the one that you buy. You will want want that has a 4 postion slide switch. -
Ditto!
