I need another description for mixing. The two cameras are mixing? If the cameras are mixing then I am thinking that you have two videos on your screen. Do I need to think that mixing is the picture is mixed up? Are there a bunch of horizontal lines? Have you had a chance to move the wires around on the power supply? Can you move the cameras around to verify that they work?

Gotcha! Now that I have your attention I need help with a wireless IP camera project. I have a customer that is looking for a IP camera with a wireless setup. He was not happy with the linksys compact wireless G internet camera. He was not to thrilled with it using several 1000kilobytes. He really liked the idea of the Pano product that FTPs to it own server and then you look at your video from there. I guess I need to find a product that is entry level, and can change its bandwith after motion detection, and it can be FTP to a server. This is for an indoor installation. I would assume it is a server room from how he talked. He wants color also. I do not think a large mega pixel is needed. Sounds like he is trying to do this on the cheap. Any one have a project that can help.

Your english is good! I wanted to understand your problem more. Are you sure the problem is with the power supply and not with the video cable? If you have a bad power supply then all of the cameras will not have video. Are all of the cameras the same? I ask if 2 are 12 Volt DC and the other 2 might be 24AC cameras? Have you swapped the cameras around to see if they work elsewhere?

What is the latest on your project so far?

I do not know what to tell you. Excluding the above advice, I am stumped. I wonder if the power supply blowing had anything to do with this. I really doubt it though. If you hook up one monitor to you get a good video? If so then I would use a dist amp that you can get at Rdo Shk, and split up the signal this way. Keep me posted.

It appears that some of the laws may soon change in regards to audio on cameras. The event where the home owner that was arrested because of the audio recording at the residence has changed law makers to sway toward allowing audio to protect your property. I guess the outcome of his trial will set precedence. If he loses than I can see the lawmakers working on drafts (if they already haven't), and trying to muster up votes till it passes. Are you using the S video output for anything?

You have three monitors. You have two looped in and out from the main out of the DVR and the third on the second DVR output (VCR or Switched). I would think this should not give you much trouble. The variables are the monitors. There are some on the market that are entry level that may give you this kind of problem. On higher end monitors I would think this would give you the least problem. I would remove the monitors one at a time to see which one is giving the grief. I would suspect the monitor cables to be more of the problem in all honesty. What kind of problem are you having? Static? No video at all? Do both sources share the same problem, or is it only on the one feed? You have tried swapping cables, so I am probably wasting your time. Oh well! I tried!

I have not worked on tvs in so long. When all else fails beat it with a hammer. In your case toss it and buy another one. You will more than likely find that it is in the power supply. It may be a bridge rectifier that went bad, or individual diodes that make a bridge rect. You may need to replace the capacitors, and regulators that go with it. In the old days you could blame B+ power for all of your ills. This may be similiar to what you are seeing. It may be working but the tapped off voltage working another circuit is not getting its fair share. I wonder if the sound was as screwed up as well.

I am at a loss on this one. I will have to right it off as the power company having a spike/brownout/generator transfer/glitch that may have caused the original install power supply to go belly up and kill all of the cameras. If one survived maybe it was the farthest one down line and had was able to withstand the assualt. This would explain why they bought new cameras and sold the "old" ones on EBay. The removal process that you described did not surprise me in the least. Man that is a tough break. They are not even good for spare parts! On the EBay sale did it ever mention "as is" or pretested????

Now that I think about it I am at a loss. There is so much graffiti around here, yet I have never seen any of our cameras hit with spray paint!!!!! Baseball bat seems to be the tool of choice in my experience. I have alway wondered why. I guess crow bars are considered "burglar tools" and bats are not.

That and a T shirt. They cannot get all of the cameras at once. Also at that threat level comes more cameras, lpr cameras, and live video monitoring. On simple systems you hope the camera is a deterrent to keep the honest crooks away. If you are hit by someone wanting quick cash items for drugs then hopefully he will be jones ing so bad that he won't notice the camera or they wont care.

You left nothing in your profile to let me know where you are located. I do not know if you are a DIY, or a seasoned pro. You are a seasoned pro so I will save you the "boring" tips that you already know. I would figure this is no longer under a warranty, so you can go ahead and cut the "warranty tape" and you can short the two pins on the PC board. Since you are seasoned pro you will know how to do this. I love the beginners who will not head my advice and to refrain from trying this method. They usually get back to me that they shorted the pins and then poof there is a small spark, and the system has died and now they are angry at me. Do not try this at home. You are responsible for your own actions Good luck!

This my be a trick for you if you have to mount them low. This is what I do for outdoor covert situations, and this may work for you. I put my bullets inside of birdhouses. If someone does a driveby they will not see the cameras. In your case it may help from someone taking a "broom" or a stick and reorienting the cameras. If I go low I will use a vandal dome. http://www.avssys.net/?s=product&sub=camera&cat=ir&p=vnd49ir Once this is "locked" down you cannot get to the mounting screws, and you cannot move the camera. This can be adjusted from 4mm -9mm with just a jewlers screwdriver from the outside of the camera. I hope this helps!

I am really surprised out of 22 cameras that only one works! I have never seen white lines on a camera video going vertical, with the brightest one to the left, and cascading to the right. I could not find enough information in your profile to show me you are a DIY, or a seasoned professional. For the DIY who read this, I would suggest trying to rebench them. I would try a different power supply, and I would try a different video cable. Since I cannot put my hands on these cameras, then I can only guess. I would assume that the first camera worked ok then every other camera had a video problem. Maybe the power supply (or an AC transformer) worked fine until it got warm and then it shut it self in a protection mode. I would assume the video cable workded ok then it lossed the video signal. I would try moving the connector left and right to see if the video pops in and out. On some premade power/video cables the connectors seam to have an achilles heal right at the connector. _______________________________________________________ This is where the seasoned professional gets mad because they are aware of these issues, and have tried every trick in the book, and they do not need the above advice. The seasoned professional would have removed the cable to the camera that is inside the dome, and they would transfer it to the other dome camera. The internal connection may have a "dirty" connection. Over a period of time dust, grime, and god for bid if they were installed in a bar, or nightclub where they are allowed to smoke will build up destroying a good electrical connection. Seasoned professionals never use WD 40 on electrical connections. This is a great product but it actually leaves a film behind, which is great for wear, and tear, or a rust free surface. This film will act as an insulator and will disrupt electrical connections. DIY can buy "color tuner" cleaner at places such as Radio Shack or such electronics store. If you are an old timer Lafayette electronics is no longer around. Sorry. A pro will retry again whick will lead to the culprit as to why the video is not coming up. The last resort is that the cameras are bad. I find this hard to believe. What we should see is that some videos are dead, some are showing BW instead of color. Some of the units may have been damaged in the removal process so the camera may not sit at the right tilt angle. Some cameras will have broken tabs or such from being forced open or not opening on their own to begin with. This will be more typical of this kind of lot. I would give the EBAY person the chance to work with you. If that fails then you may have to give him a bad mark. I would not do this lightly. Let the EBAY person try all avenues before you give up. I will call this company's bluff! They are completely off the mark. I totally agree in general with what they are saying to a degree. You do get what you pay for! A good company will test, and retest, and debug hardware, and software problems. A really good company will listen to the people once the product is out in the field and will make changes based on this feed back. Yes, there are companys out there that really do not care about the product, or about the people who buy their products. There are companies that are no longer around. Why? Did they fail because of a financial situation? Did they fail to adopt a new technology that has become a standard? Did the competition blow them away? I call their bluff! I install very cheap, and very low end products. If I judge myself in the security arena, I would have to say I am not a "security professional". I fill a nitch market. These are people who do not want the "internet" crud, they do not want the big box cctv in a "box", but they have a serious problem that they have to face. Now that they have been "slapped" in the face with reality they now want to take back control of their lives, and protect their businesses, and/or protect their families. These are not the kind of people who whip out their check book and write a check for $10,000, and have a system installed. Those of you who respond, "Hey you are a professional"! What makes me a professional is that I foam my attic holes, I use low voltage trim rings instead of screwing a wall plate to the drywall. I use caulk where ever, and when ever it is required. I try to give the best view that I can under a tight budget. If I have to, I will put the camera on the far side of the front door pointed at the driveway. You may not see who is at the front door, but you will see who approached the front door, and you will see what is going on with your cars. None of my customers use line conditioners. Very few of my customers use UPS, or somekind of battery back up. I always suggest it, and I always will pursue my customers to do so. If the project is big enough then I will automatically order the power supply w/ BAT. I will plug the DVR in to a ups that is destined for the computer. I hate doing so because it is for the computer. I am now taking away from the computer. If the power goes out for a moment then at least they are still recording. I use entry level devices, with no power line conditioner, no UPS, and I may or maynot have surge protection on this equipment. If all of my installs failed as bad as this article say the equipment will fail then I believe I would be out of business as of yesterday!!!! All of my systems are still running!! Those of you that have ever use entry level stand alone DVRs will come to my defense and say that this is a true accomplishment. To be fair to the article, yes I have more headaches then I should. Yes I have loaner DVRs, cameras, power supplys, and cables for any emergency that may arise. I am on a first name basis with the tech support for most of my dealers. I am not proud to announce that, but I am proud that I can solve any problem that is thrown at me. I challange that article to send me their product and place them in my environments!! I double dog dare them!!!! I triple dog dare them!! I believe that you have to use the right product for the right job. I have seen great products installed by DIY and have it perform so poorly that it has been deemed trash by the client, (how come DIY never throw highend equipment away? It is because they do not use them)! I am truely blessed for I have the greatest customers in the whole world (knock on wood).

This is a very difficult question to answer. I would say it depends more on your customers than anything else. If they are budget oriented than I would say that this would be the decision maker. If you are installing in the corporate world than I would say the H.264 DVR is what I would aim for. The common advice from everyone seams to be to stick with the American companies. You will tend to spend more, but you have "local" feedback, tech support, parts, and distribution. Nothing is more frustrating than sending a DVR back to Taiwan, or China and having to wait for a replacement. I would need more information in reqards to which DVR to select from. Casinos are completely differnet than entry level residential markets. Will you be using PTZ, keyboards, multiplexors, and integration? Are these systems with a large amount of cameras, or a small amount of cameras? I will be more than glad to help.
