AVTECH DVR:What are differences between AVC and KPD Model?
scorpion replied to tuannd's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I do not have a true answer. My opinion is there is no difference. It is the same board from the manufacture. It has a different brand name therefore a different model number. There may be differences in the firmware, but only for the onscreen logos, and such. They both share the great AVTech Quality build. -
google the model number that you would like to buy, and find a dealer in your state (to keep the shipment time to a minimum). You can also check EBAY.

I cannot answer this question. I would say great! DVRs are selected by level of threat (security) and budget. I would not want to put an entry level DVR in to a bank. By the same token I would not want to spend $12,000 on a DVR for my house. If you selected this DVR based on your budget, and the machine is an excellant condition then you have made a fine choice. If you have more to spend then you have more options to play with. I like the AVTech DVRs as they have video loop outs, and the menu is easy to teach others how to use. The server that is built in to the IDE version machines leave a lot to be desired. The SATA version is much improved. What kind of hard drive does your DVR have? Did you buy it used? -
I do not know much about cell phone set up. If you DVR has IDE hard drives then you may need to use Eagle Eyes old. If it has SATA drive then you need to use Eagle Eyes new.

The question is how are you going to get the video back to the TV? Do you have a single storly house with an attic where you can run another video cable to the TVs? If yes then use a dist amp on the monitor out of the DVR to your TVs. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103065&cp=&sr=1&origkw=composite+distribution&kw=composite+distribution&parentPage=search http://scorpiontheater.com/irlab.aspx http://scorpiontheater.com/troubleshooting.aspx -

This would be determined by your hard drive size. If you have a large hard drive then use MPEG. If you have a small size hard drive such as 80GB then you will only get 4 days of recording. If you want more days then use smaller FPS to stretch out your recording time. The answer is both are better. Think of it like two tools. Each tool solves a problem. Frame will give you a better recorded picture. If you have a small hard drive then you will soon be recording over your oldest video if you have it set for overwrite. If you have a large hard drive then it does not matter. Cif is to save space on your $400.00 hard drive (prices have come down, and this is no longer an issue). I would say use frame. -

JPEG is going to be a bit grainy. Mpeg is going to be better. H.264 is not available on the 761. H.264 is better over the internet, but entry level DVRs will struggle with H.264 if they have cheaper chipset. H.264 is video intensive, and you will want quality chipsets. It will not matter if you use IDE. IDE may be more expensive. You can also try a SATA to IDE converter. Check the supply of IDE in your area with computer shops to see if they stock them. Video Server S was made for JPEG, Video Server E was made for MPEG, and Video viewer was made for H.264, and made backwards compatable for Video Server E machines. You can use either. Which do you prefer? I like Video Viewer better. -
Too many variables to guess. I am thinking that you have not made changes in your router to allow it to work. It is calle port forwarding. What is your computer level expertise? I do not want to be redundant if you are a pro, or to assume you are an expert, and leave out valuable info! http://scorpiontheater.com/videonetworkingwithavtech.aspx

I am short of information on your DVR to make a proper diagnosis. Remove the hard drive, and see if your DVR works normally. You may have a bad hard drive. You may have a bad external power supply. You may have a bad internal power supply. You may have a failed oscillator on your main board.

AvTech Remote Viewing Problem -Strange
scorpion replied to Dositmat's topic in Digital Video Recorders
The model number should be on the mainboard. Watch out for warranty stickers that may void to open the chassis. A firmware upgrade will not help. More then likely you will tank the DVR, and create a door stop. As for tech support I do not know what to say. I am going to say the router is the problem. I would swap that out, but I am sure you already did that. I am sure you opened the router wide open to test for ports. If the black berry works outside on the WAN then there are no issues with you setup. It appears to be the ISP issue. I wonder if you can go back to the old equipment? I would try to clear the internet files, and see if this will allow you to reload the active X. what do you think? -
Unable to view DVR AVtech camera over internet
scorpion replied to KhaKha's topic in Computers/Networking
You have not provided a lot of info. Have you port forwarded your router? Have you verified your WAN ip address with www.ipchicken.com? Perhaps one of these manuals can make it simple for you? http://scorpiontheater.com/videonetworkingwithavtech.aspx Do you have the older version with the IDE, or the newer SATA hard drive? -
On your I phone store aps have your tried the AVTech ap? For older DVR with the IDE drives you can try J2ME old version http://scorpiontheater.com/pda.aspx

AvTech Remote Viewing Problem -Strange
scorpion replied to Dositmat's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Hard to say. I would try a different port number, and play around to see if one will work better. They may have a block, or a bandwith throttle on the port that you are using? -
Too many things to figure out. First pull the hard drive out, and power up the DVR. Does it boot ok? If yes then bad hard drive. It could be a bad power supply. External, or internal. Go to a computer shop, and see if they have an all in one tip 19 volt power supply. If the DVR boots fine, reinstall the hard drive, and reboot. If all is good then it might have been the external power supply. There is also an interal power supply that might give you problems. Most likely it will be one of those three. For the hard core electronics people then test the freq of the oscillators. That would be the next step. If all of the osc are working then it should boot up. http://scorpiontheater.com/avtparts.aspx

EagleEyes (AvTech DVR) supported cell phones

PM sent with J2ME -
PM sent to Master C, and Beasties. For Blackberry: I would want to say no it will not work. It works on some models, and not on others. Just give it a try, and see. Try port 80 on the DVR, and if that does not work try a different port. Some ISPs might block port 80, or port 80 may not work with the cellular provider. There are different manuals for J2ME on this page. Read them and see which one suits you. http://scorpiontheater.com/pda.aspx Good luck. Post back here if your cell/pda works so that I can track Phone / Provider / Settings. Thanks!

Whew! It hit 70 degrees here in Florida. We set fire to all of the oak trees, and orange trees, and we managed to survive! OK! Don't kill me all at once!

PM sent! How is the weather in Thailand? Are you any where close to Udorn, RTAFB? Take care,

My guess is that you need to open your DVR port number in to your router perhaps. If it pops up real quick then it is an IP issue. If it tries to connect, and then fail, then it is a bad user / password admin / admin If all else fails perhaps a hardware reset will help? http://scorpiontheater.com/reset.aspx More info for you: http://scorpiontheater.com/troubleshooting.aspx Good luck!

I am not familiar with this machine. Perhaps you can use the KPD608 manual? Check to see if this will work for you? http://scorpiontheater.com/cpcamtechsupport.aspx The KPD608 looks more like this: NETWORK TYPE...........................STATIC IP ..........................192 . 168 . 001 . 012 GATEWAY............... 192 . 168 . 001 . 254 NETMASK............... 255 . 255 . 252 . 000 PRIMARY DNS .........168 . 095 . 001 . 001 SECONDARY DNS....139 . 175 . 055 . 244 PORT ............................................0080
