Ditto! Thanks for asking! You may have save some equipment, or from having to go through your insurance policy to see what was covered, and what was not covered!

Avermedia EB1304MOB corruption issues persist
scorpion replied to Scruit's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I do not think these units are designed for auto use. What does the military do to mount computers in tanks, and other vehicles? I can see a modified version of a hard drive for "combat" use, but I would think that the mounting, or shock absorbing designs could be incorporated in to a weekend project? It would be interesting to see if one could change shock absorbers, and get the car to ride slightly smoother, and figure a way to mount a hard drive with an shock absorbing mount. I wonder how NASA does it? Can you set up a PC based system with a raid? -
This is very common to PTZ cameras. Not all is lost. Do you have manuals with your PTZ? http://scorpiontheater.com/ptz.aspx See if the mini PTZ manual might clue you in on what you need to do! There is only two wires going to your camera it appears. RS 485 only needs two wires.

Was the Ebay sellar a "person", or an online store? I would have thought this would be your best bet for info. As a person I would think they would have used it if you bought from them. Perhaps this is why they sold it? As a store front, and then they do not know how to help you tells me they are just box pushers. They failed to put tech support in to the business plan and therefore can pass the savings on to the customer. Some saving Ebay turned out to be! Rats! Let us know if you have contacted them!

Not really sure of the issues. What model CP Cam DVR do you have? The dns should keep you connected. This should not be a problem. DHCP? No problem with dns. Reconfigure? What does reconfigure mean? I mean "what are you doing"? Is this the clue that might direct us to your "actual" problem? Perhaps you can call your ISP, and find out what their terminology is for the troubleshooting tool that they have where they record your connection for 24 hours to see if you link goes down? I do not know if your problem is ISP related, or router related. What is Reconfigure?

Have searched -Need Some Advice: DVR + Camera Choices
scorpion replied to dee99ta's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Your budget is brutally low compared to the extreme specs you have posted, or Your specs are to high for your budget. This is to include full wholesale prices with a website with no tech support staff where they can pass the savings on to you! Do you wish to stick to the budget, or do you wish to stick to the specs. 30 yards at night require serious upgrades and true day night cameras rather than bullet cameras in a kit kind of product. License plate? Forget it! Do not even try unless you have some serious stuff to lose. "security must be of the essence". 75 yards away? Wow! That is a gate, or a far away barn! You are better off getting the camera up closer rather than buying a telescope, and screwing it on to your camera! Then again you can go to Toys er utz, and bolt on a childs plastic lens telescope to a camera to maintain your budget. I do not think this would be effective though! How much do you have to lose? Take 10% of that value, and use it as your budget to spend. Any questions? -

Go here: http://www.avtech.com.tw/english/cctv.aspx?Type=3&Type2=3 On the left select DIGITAL PRODUCTS and select between MPEG, and H.264, and you can compare lower model to upper models, and compare specs, and see what suites your needs. What do you think? -
LOL! Thanks! I would start with what ever is selling at a popular pace. I would imagine that the H.264 is where I would start. I want to add more to this page, and it has been a long time since I did any work on it. I have a AVC 774 that I want to document when the economy gets better, or I win the lottery!

Wow! If I could put a $5.00 Pay pal button on the website, then I could afford to tear apart some new DVR models that are coming out so that I could build a parts list, and an RMA repair manual for each one! PM sent!

Advice and questions for my first DVR system
scorpion replied to dnsource's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I have a preference to recommend people to find a dealer / installer in your area. Let them make a recommendation based on your budget. The advantage is when something goes belly up like a dead fish then you have someone to "lean" on. They can resolve your problem, or they can work with the tech support of their distributor giving you lots of support flexiblity. They may make a recommendation but it may be based on what is in their distribution chain. It is kind of like the Ford vs Chevy Vs Dodge. They all get you to your destination. Is one better then the other? In lower tier entry level products for the most part they are all going to be pretty close no matter where you buy. Too cheap of a budget and you may not get internet connection. I do not have Avermedia in some of the distribution chains that I use. Not that is is a bad machine it is just that I do not work with it. I have several AVTech distributors, and I know these systems like the back of my hand. Someone making a decision as to Avermedia, or Avtech, and tech support, and a strong product knowledge may hire me. They are stuck with AVTech, but you can see from my post on this forum that I have a deep knowledge of the system, and I am more than willing to go the extra mile to help someone. Someone buying through me may pay a bit more as the websites out there do not have a large overhead. They do not buy test equipment, and they do not hire technical people to run the tech support. In all honesty the Ebay sites, and the websites out there that run cheap prices do not have a tech support section and this is why they can sell a little cheaper. The biggest problem with the internet sites is that they are just "box pushers". Call them and ask some technical questions and listen to the cricketts in the background! That is if they answer the telephone, or even respond to your email. I would say contact a company that you might decide to buy from, and tell them you have a dead DVR, and see how they react. If you wait three days for a call back, or they blow off you off, the you know not to buy from them. If they ask you question to help resolve the problem then that is a good sign. Do not be surprised if they just send you a link to a FAQ page. Great! you probably already read it, and you still do not have resolution. What do you think? -

Advice and questions for my first DVR system
scorpion replied to dnsource's topic in Digital Video Recorders
You will be using the yellow RCA composite video inputs. For short runs it may not matter but for video quality you will not want to run RG6 that has a steel center conductor with copper coating. This is used by the cable companies, and this is what you may find at the hardware store, or any Audio / video distributor. You will want a full copper center conductor, and you want a real good braid. You will switch your TV inputs from Cable/sat to CCTV view. -
Some DVRs may work using Quicktime to view live video such as AVTech.
