Horizonal lines on TV screen
scorpion replied to markpow's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
It is hard to say. You may have some kind of interference present, and you do not see it as much with the one cable, and more so with the other. At first I thought you had a ground loop problem, but switching cables would rule that out. The question is: When you swap cables are they hooked up the same? I would take a hand held monitor. Using the cable that gives you the problem then I would hook this up to the camera. I would just use the power side, and plug my monitor in to the camera directly. Does the hand held monitor show the problem? If yes this may be a power supply problem, and the power wire is not a large enough gage to let the juice flow. If the video looks good then hook up the video cable to the camera, and then go to the other end. Hook up your hand held monitor to see what it looks like. This should eliminate the groud loop problem. Now what do you see? If bad, then I would say a bad cable. If it looks good then connect it to the original monitor. If it goes bad, then you might have a ground loop problem. What do you think? -

I cheat! I pull on the soffit flashing to pull the nail out a little. I use a secondary pair of dikes (diagnal cutters), and I pull them out with the dikes. ( I say secondary as my main has a perfect cutting edge). -

New Zealand and Australian users? (groan) LOL! -
It sounds like you are having lighting issues more than camera issues. Are you using IR illuminators? http://scorpiontheater.com/irlab.aspx

I am not sure what you are describing. It might be this: http://scorpiontheater.com/url.aspx I am thinking that the active X did not get loaded. It may be in the internet option security tab that you do not have the unsigned active x set to prompt? What do you think?

AVTech Video Viewer: Latest version titled 0.1.0.3
scorpion replied to scorpion's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Interesting! Over a time frame I have been loading, and loading, and loading different versions of Video Server E, and then Video Viewer, and I do not find that many problems. Not to say that I do not have left over garbage in my registry, or something, but I have never had a problem. I think I once got a bad software, but I just removed in ADD/REMOVE software, and loaded another source. This being a new version of video viewer may be a possible problem. I guess we will have to wait for someone else who has SP2 to verify the problem. I am still trying to figure out what the FLIP was designed for, or what situation one would use it. I guess it would come in handy while using a PTZ camera beyond the "horizon" in it's overtilt. -

What actions/failures are you getting in XP SP2? I would not think there would be that much of a difference between the two? -

I have painted a few to make them less noticable on a house. When you drive by you do not see them. Best to to prime them, before you paint them. I have hidden a few in bird houses, dog houses, pump houses ect. -
I highly recommend ICRealtime. The system design, and the budget would answer the question in regards to the IP/analog DVR. If you are running RG59 then an analog would be the way to go, and if you are running Cat 5 then I can see where you would start with a dual DVR, and add IP cams at a later date. If the transistion is not for another couple of years then I would wait to see what kind of equipment they come out with at the time. If one is putting equipment in to a finance package such as a business loan then get everything you need now.

Thanks for the headup! I will file that info away!

This is a long shot but what about loading JAVA on to your cell/PDA?

The DNS company will put an application on a PC located where the DVR is located. This ap will call out to see what the IP address is. It will take this IP address, and send it to the DNS company. The DNS company will look at the IP address. If the one on "file" is the same then no changes are required. If the incoming IP address does not match the one on file then it will update the file to the new IP address. In your the DNS IP address should still connect you back to your DVR. I have in the past seen where people use their laptop to set up the account, and then take it to work log in at work, and the DNS ap detects the IP change, and sends this back to the company. When they log in to their DVR they are actually being rerouted to the work IP rather then where the DVR is located. I do not think this is the problem in your case. Your problem is a mystery!

Hello! Love your products, and I sell a ton of the wireless bullets! Your company's wireless camera products work great as long as the customer uses them within the specs for which they were designed to work in. http://scorpiontheater.com/wireless.aspx Will you continue to carry the DVRs that come out of your taiwan plant that uses the Video Viewer remote software? -
mikano I agree with everyone here. Either add motion lights, or add more IR illumination. Measure from where your camera is located, and out to the area to be viewed. Double this distance. This will be the IR distance that you will be looking for. For example most entry level bullets may have a 30 foot rated IR. This means that the video is going to be most effective at the 15 foot range. Even though one might have a "cheap" camera it should work good in this case as a person standing in a yard is going to be within the 15 foot zone. What really makes the video better is to have a lot of tree canopy. In other words the IR can bounce off of the foilage, and create a better picture. The type of LED will dictate wether it is designed for wide throw, or long throw. I have seen cameras that have mismatched IR LED compared to the lens. I have seen long throw lense camera (lets say 12mm) with an IR System designed for a wide throw lense camera (lets say 2.8mm), or vise versa. It may, or maynot help in your case. http://scorpiontheater.com/irlab.aspx To everyone out there reading this post. Before you start mounting camera, and your main issue is nighttime video, then I want you to stop, and think about the photographer who takes family photos. They are in a well lit room, and yet they still have those "umbrellas" on the left, and the right, and they have lamps, or flash in various locations. The flash from above is to give your hair the "sun flair, or highlight" effect. The flash in the back is to highlight the background picture. What are the umbrellas for? They actually difuse the light making in less harsh, and spread the light around more evenly. In regards to IR illumination at night time then you will want to do the same thing. The camera may have a distance spec. If you are looking farther then the spec then add an IR illuminator in this area, (or add a long throw IR illuminator). You will also want to illuminate the background (this will help give you perspective such as where he is located in a yard, and what is size may be based on a 6 foot fence in a background etc). If you have large trees then point a IR illuminator in to the canopy to spread the light more evenly. I have seen people buy a camera with a 200 foot (or just an illuminator) IR throw. All it does is creates a "hot spot" in the video. The IR source is so narrow that you miss a lot of the peripheral vision. When you go to do your install look at your budget, and look at what you can afford. Buy the best camera that you can afford, and add illuminators later when you have more money. In other words build your "system" up over time. You can buy several IR illuminators, and a "cheapo" camera, and later upgrade the camera. __________________________________________________________ Thread Highjack! Hello Huwbler! I love the Swann products. I love the DVRs that you sell that look like my avatar. In regards to Swann cameras: I would have to say you have some great cameras for the price range. I can take a Swann bullet, or a Swann Wireless bullet, and I can throw them to the floor, and plug them in to a system, and they still work! Tough! I sell a ton of the 2.4Ghz wireless bullets. People are always trying to use them outside of the parameters for which they were designed. Once I get them to move the receiver so they are not trying to penetrate 4 walls, and extreme distances then all works out good. http://scorpiontheater.com/wireless.aspx I would love to hear what you have in DVRs that you are soon to introduce that have the same remote software that my avatar has.

One would have to be on site in order to make an informed decision. The hardest thing I find with remote viewing at work will be based on your relationship with the IT guy. In your case they may have a firewall blocking you from viewing. See what he can do to help that would not violate any security "settings". As to the logging in to the screen, and finding it black..... I am going to say that you do not have admin rights with this computer? Perhaps you are unable to load active X. Note: The companies will not pay Microsoft their fee, and have Microsoft sign the certificate. The companies will just issue it as an unsigned certificate. You will need to make changes on the computer in the internet options screen under the security tab. Again you will need the help of the IT guy. What do you think?
