Using PTZ camera with AV760 through Video viewer
scorpion replied to dch92's topic in Digital Video Recorders
The AVC 760 is an IDE based hard drive "system". When they switched to a Sata based hard drive "system" They came out with Video Viewer. They made Video Viewer backwards compatiple with the IDE version DVRs. The Video Server E cannot link up to a Sata Version AVC 760A DVR, and other Video Viewer based DVR models. There are a lot of changes going on. AVTech is switching all of new DVRs to H.264 compression with H.264 web server. They had to issue a SATA version DVR models because of the cost issues. They were not ready to release a network AP. Video Viewer was released as a transition AP. It can be used on the newer H.264 DVRs, and the MPEG4 DVRs. They worked out the engineering as they went, and released updates as fast as they could. They are still working on some issues with the H.264. Once they are ready to roll 100 H.264 then I would imagine they will release a network AP at that time that will be a complete product. I truely do not know what happened, but it sure is tough trying to keep up with a product that has changes every 6 months I guess. -
Using PTZ camera with AV760 through Video viewer

What version of Video Viewer do you have? You are correct that Video Viewer has no PTZ control. You can go in to an IE Browser, and put your IP address and port number. You can click on the PTZ icon, and hit one of your presets, and then you can press your directional buttons. Video Viewer 0.1.0.3 released on Oct 14 2009 has a Full Screen that has several of the video viewer screens on a palette. On this palette there is a PTZ icon. I tried it remotely, and I could not get it to work. If I was local to the DVR, and I pressed the two buttons on the front panel, then I believe the Icon on the Video Viewer would become active, and then you could use the PTZ controls. You can use the browser method, or if you want to try to down load the 0.1.0.3 version and test it yourself. http://scorpiontheater.com/videoviewer.aspx -

AVTech ACV796D problem displaying recorded video

RETR Avtech started with software called Video Server S. When they went MPEG4 then they came out with Video Server E. I do not know what they call the H.264 viewer. I guess the Video Viewer started with enough "engineering" to connect to the H.264 DVRs that first rolled off the assembly line, and they made it backwards compatable with DVRs that used Video Server E. Nice transition in my book. What really pissed people off about Video Server S, and E was that the remote viewer would be pressing buttons, and the local guy's video would change. Example local guy is watching Multi Screen, and the remote guy is pressing camera one in full screen. Now the local guy cannot see the multi screen. The local guy goes in to the menu to make changes, and the remote guy sees the menu on his screen messing up his view of came one. Network independant view allows the local guy to see what he wants, and the remote guy to see what he wants. This function can be disabled so that both users see the same video. Does this make sense? Here is a quick flash demo for everyone to see. Network Indenpendant http://211.75.84.102/kugai/demo/flash/rid.htm RETR http://211.75.84.102/kugai/demo/flash/retr.htm What do you think? -
Lenses selection is going to be the main concern. Do you want wide angle to increase peripheral vision, and suffer with distance distortion? If you need to see in to the distance then what mm lens is going to be needed for that view. Facial recognition requires non wide angle lenses, and you will need zoom lenses.

I logged in to an AVC 760A, and I see what you mean by the larger tool palette when you expand to full screen. Interesting. The earlier versions of Video Viewer would just create a full screen of the video, and you would have to press ESC to get out of full screen. The 0130 version is interesting as it has EMAP! I looked at those tools that you described. I cannot get in to the double gears. It may be specific to your DVR, and the AVC 760A may not have this option built in. [Edit.....Pressing double gears changes the set of icons below, and pressing DVR control brings up a palette that provides menu, up, down, left, right, pause, stop, rewind, fast forward, and more]. I can get in to the hammer, and wrenches icon. These are all internal to the DVR selections, and do not control any changes to your PC. RETR allows you to record video directly to the remote PC. If the DVR gets stolen then you still have the video files. When you press the film strip icon then you will record video to your hard drive. The log allows you to select a recording. I like this option that they have set up. I do not have to go to my computer, and go to C drive, and then open tempvideo, and then select a video to watch. This version of Video Viewer has my vote! It appears to be an overlay with the video "addressed" to sit behind where the square opening is located. I was pressing around on buttons, and I found FLIP. I fell out of my chair laughing my butt off! The video flipped upside down! That was too funny! -

.0.1.3.0 Do you have your DVR setup for remote view? I just download this version, and I can confirm that it works with the AVC 760A / AS PM your IP address. Do not post here. -
Thank you for clearing that up. I had the machines mixed up.

I would say go ahead, and buy it. I believe it is recording in H.264. The very first demo may have not been ready for the market, and was for "show".

Are you talking about the Video Viewer picuture as you see here? http://scorpiontheater.com/videoviewer.aspx I have Address / Misc Control / Record / Snapshot / Information I am lost to log, and DVR control (??) Perhaps I need to upgrade to a newer Video Viewer? -
You need to swap out the hard drive with a brand new one. It comes straight out of the package, and straight into the DVR. It will not be installed into a computer, and formatted in any way. If the DVR works then it was the old hard drive. If it still has a problem then perhaps it is the external power supply, or a problem on the enternal power supply, and this is causing problems with the hard drive. A rare problem would be a relay failure that controls the power to the hard drive. If replacing the external, and the internal power supplys do not work then it is a board failure. It would cost more in labor to repair it then it would to buy another used one. Hard reset will not fix the problem. Have you verified the DVR is set for "OVERWRITE" ?? What do you think?

I am speaking of the AVC 791 This is what I am trying to track down. The paper work says H.264 compression. I have not bought one personally, but some of my research seems to suggest otherwise. I do not know quite for sure what is going on. Perhaps the first shipment of the 791 had an MPEG compression. I need to find out if it is H.264 in CIF, and MPEG in Frame, or vice versa. It may be that the units now have full H.264 compression, and H.264 web servers. I may be talking out my butt. I will dig in to this more tomorrow.

787 Playback.exe won't install on XP Pro
scorpion replied to joegrab's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Look at the Slow, and Zoom Buttons on the front panel. Below the two buttons you will see that it says " audio ". The first press gives you live audio, and the second press of both buttons gives you play back audio. For audio with Video playback you will need to press an icon on the playback tool set. Page 35 of your manual. On the playback tool bar you will see a circle on the right side with stop / play / f forward / rewind. To the left of this circle is two rows of eight buttons. In the left row, third button down is the config button, (wrench, and screw driver icon). You will need to select this button, and you will need to see if the AV sync has a check mark in the square. -
I am sorry to tell you this, but you have a permanent problem, and it cannot be fixed! Ok! I lied! It is an easy fix! http://scorpiontheater.com/nubix4st.aspx Look for the following: MANUAL AVC 760AS / NUBIX 4ST MANUAL ENGLISH

What are you entering in on Video Viewer? The icon with the box, and gear? This is the DVR. I assume that you are looking at where the file will reside for your video. Is this correct? -

I use Eclipse stuff, and I love em! I am surprised that you are having problems! I am wondering if these cameras are mounted to a metal building? If so, are the camera mounts isolated from the metal creating the ground loop issue? I have this problem in the commercial area where a business has two or more metal warehouse style buildings. The DVR being at one building, and the cameras being on another building, and the "ground potential" between the two buildings create lines, or issues. On Farms I usually see wooden buildings, and this would not create a ground loop issue. What kind of buildings are you working with? -
OK! Here is my research. I do not have all of the facts, but this is my impression, and I will have to find the "facts" that back up my statement. I believe that the hard drives in Asian Wolf's 4 channel DVR is a refurbished hard drive. I do not have a problem with this as long as it is mentioned in the advertising. You get what you pay for. How was it, and by who was it refurbished? If I wanted to save a few bucks then a refurb is ok in that category. If "security is of the essence" then one would have to take this in to reconsideration. For the money I would say it is a "buy". WARNING! The AVC 792 is not a true 100% H.264 DVR! It is an MPEG4 DVR with an H.264 WEB SERVER providing the internet connection. I love AVTech Equipment, and I will sing their praises, but I have to be honest about the equipment when it is needed. I just now found about the AVC 792 myself. Interesting. It appears that AVTech is going 100% H.264, but there are many small "H.264 issues" that they are working through. Once all of the engineering is complete then all AVTech DVRs will be H.264 with H.264 Web Server. Question: H.264? Does this work similiar to JPEG in regard to sending a snapshot in an email? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC

It is a pain! The problem is the two buttons have to be pressed at the same time. I have not figured out how to press two icons on the remote aps at the same time. Yeesh! -

I truely do not understand what you are saying. Video Viewer never controls your PC, or your PC's Hard Drive "Per Se". I will need a deeper explanation. Video Viewer: Which feature are you using? Are you looking at past history? Are you searching for video? If you press the film strip icon in Video Viewer, and record the video then you are essentially recording your video two times. Once with the DVR, and secondly on to your PC's hard drive. To view the video on your PC you go to the file where your video resides, and you will click on an icon. The video should come up right away. There are two icons that share the same title. One is for the actual video, and the other (OK I have not clue), I believe is to allow you to search the videos. My videos are stored on C:\ tempvideo C:\ temppicture stores your snapshots (camera icon) Are you recording video directly to your remote PC? -
Soundy I did not provide a circuit to provide power to the cameras. This was already assumed on my part that one would build / buy one. I was using the automotive as a source to a power supply, and not the camera supply directly. You forgot to say FUSE also! The collapsing field of an alternator can create spikes or a reverse voltage. You do not hear of it much, but in the early days of retro audio systems there would be unexplained equipment failures. Auto sound systems are built more robust, and the changes in auto power systems have made a difference. I always throw that in. I usually get heckled for the advice, but then what does a bridge cost now adays. I do agree with you that a video surveillance system should be isolated from the auto power supply.
-
Vehicle power would dictate the design. Automotive is 12volt, and therefore the perfect power source for 12 volt cameras. Use a bridge rectifier to isolate your camera circuits from your automotive supply. For example when you shut off the vehicle the collapsing magnetic field may create a reverse voltage. This would depend on where you are "tapped" in to the automotive electrical system. If you are behind the automotive voltage regulator then you should not have this problem. Adding a large size farad capacitor would be a good idea.

Counter Surveillance: Sweeping for Hidden Cell Phone
scorpion replied to todd2's topic in Test Bench
If it takes three pings to locate the device, and the device is set to ping once an hour then I would say that you need to pack a lunch! Do not let anyone with a cellphone to "hang out and watch". You would be suprised at how many "PI bugfinders" search vehicles with their cell phone on, and the customer is standing there with his cell phone, and anyone else that is "hanging out". This just cracks me up! -
Are you using a 9 volt battery clip?

You should take this machine back under warranty. You either have a bad DVR, or you are trying to do something that the machine was not disigned to do. If the machine is set for overwrite then you should not have to do anything for the 8MB. Show the people what you are doing when it crashes, and see what they say.
