    Urgent avtech 787 int... help

There is a lock out for the menu. I forget what the procedure is. Check your manual. It will be something like pressing menu, and enter at the same time. This will "open up" access to buttons on the front panel. What do you think?
  2. You guys have said it all! Nothing left for me to add. How to drill through Fire Stops down a wall, or How to Horizontal Drill and Bore through rafters on a flat roof! http://www.irwin.com/irwin/consumer/jhtml/detail.jhtml?prodId=IrwinProd100181 http://www.irwin.com/irwin/consumer/jhtml/detail.jhtml?prodId=IrwinProd100186 The smallest spade bit you can use is the 3/4 because of the size on the chuck that interlocks the 12" extension. If I have to bore through a 2X4 5 feet down the wall then all I have to do is connect 5 extensions together. I like this style because I can press on the drill such as going through a knot in the wood. The 6 foot whip style drill bits will flex under pressure, and I might bend it enough to come out of the wall at the wrong point. Ooops! This is a great device where you need to install wiring in your walls that are nonelectrical in nature. This can be used for AV cables such as TV, Satellite, audio, cctv, video, and telephone. Place the trim ring against the wall, and use a level, and then trace the inside of the ring with a pencil. Use a drywall saw to cut out the pencil trace. Install the ring. There is a tab on the top, and the bottom. When you rotate the screws the tabs will lock in behind the drywall. As you turn the screws the tab will tighten against the drywall. Re check the level of the trim ring. You can pull your wires out and then use a wall plate that has a hole in it. Low Voltage Trim Ring Carlon SC100R Old Work Bracket Single Gang http://www.carlon.com/SC/SC_Blue9.html Wall plate with .406 hole (or dremel the hole bigger) http://www.westsidewholesale.com/electrical/wall-plates/audio-video/1-gang-406-inch-hole-telephone-cable-wallplate.html
  3. More variables!!!! AAAAAAAGGGGHHHHH! LOL! Where does the sun come up, and where does the sun go down? Most cameras high above on a garage pointing down will have a verticle line right through the video. This is the sun reflecting off of the windshield causing glare aimed at your camera. The lower the better, or moving left, or right. Park the car there, and look at the "test" video before a permanent mount. Summer is the best time to check this but think about how the sun moves south during the winter, and anticipate this new angle. *********************************************************** It may be better to have two cameras on both sides of the driveway if it is a two car driveway. (Hmmm. Park on the driveway, and drive on the parkway)? This depends on how many cameras you are installing, and your budget. Here is a trick. Get a long throw IR camera. Mount it by the front door aimed at the drive way. You will put it on the side of the door that is farther away from the drive. You will not see who is at your door, but you will see who approached your door (such as knock on the door, and no one is home, and kick the back door in), and you can see your driveway. Two birds with one stone on a budget! More cameras are recommended!
  4. The answer is variable. Depends on the camera selected, or the budget you wish to be in. I would say go for the IR. This way if the power goes out, and you have a battery back up system then your system can still record. What do you think?

Is the DVR booting up properly? Do you have video? Are you only having problems getting in to the menu?

Another guy in need of help!!!

The camera should come with some software. This should allow you to set up the 3 sub views. Are you using this software to focus the camera? I wonder if mechanically it is focused, but electronically it is out of focus. I have never used this camera so I do not know for sure. Is this a close out purchase? In other words they do not have the support that goes with the camera? It seems like the only trick you have to resolve is the TV image. Perhaps you can install a card that converts the VGA signal to give you a composite out so that this can be hooked up to your TVs?

I do not have any data for your DVR. Just by chance lets see if it matches the AVC 760 chip. http://scorpiontheater.com/Documents/AVTech760_HEF4051BT_U22_U16_Multiplexer_Demultiplexer.pdf Does your chip look like this one?
  9. If it were any cheaper, then it would be for free! We as techs do not look for the cheap way as we get sued if there is a crime, and the video does not identify the criminal. Perhaps you have what you need?

Another guy in need of help!!!

I read your post when you first posted it. It said PC based DVR, and I stopped reading your post as I am only a "stand alone DVR guy". You will have to forgive me, but after I read your post today I realized tht you are in way over your head. You have to buy a power supply that matches your cameras. What power is required of your cameras? Lets see: Voltage Requirement. 24 VAC, 12 VDC auto sensing Power Consumption. 6 Watts If you have 12 volt cameras, and you are having problem getting the right voltage then you need to use two conductor wire that is 18 guage. Perhaps you need to switch to 24 volts AC? Using cat 5 for power should work for short distances, but what size guage is your cat 5 that you are using for power? This is going to be dependent on the cameras more than anything else. Your cameras will do just great for this! You will need to run the video from the GEO 650 to a distribution amp / signal splitter, and then to the three TVs. The computer that has the DVR should have video on the monitor already. A remote computer would go to the internal lan IP, and you will have to portforward your router. What do you have set up to do this? http://www.saysecurity.com/xos_covi.html I am confused as to why you are using this kind of camera? You sound like you doing an entry level "do it yourself" set up, yet you are using equipment above a simple install? Are you using the DMM-2100 with the Crystal HD software? You say that you are using this: http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/product/GV-650.htm You do realize that you are only going to get 720 X 480 30FPS video out regardless of how great this camera is? HD viewing is provided by 3rd party Digital Video Recorder (DVR) manufacturers which license and employ CoVi’s application. DVR manufacturers that implement CoVi’s HD code can provide the HD resolution viewing capabilities, through a simple integration of CoVi’s HD application. For this reason, HD viewing is enabled by the CoVi camera management application or via a DVR that implements Covi’s camera management protocol. You might be better off running RG 59 for video. Here is where you need to stop, and hire someone to do this set up for you! Usually installers learn "on the job". You need to watch someone install this a few times, and then you need to install a few to understand how to troubleshoot things that come up. Where are the manuals that came with the products? Where did you buy all of this? How come they do not provide the info that you need? For those reading this post you can read more info here by clicking on the top link. http://www.google.com/search?q=Extending+Video+Surveillance+Quality%3A+A+CoVi+Whitepaper&rls=com.microsoft: In laymans term teach me how to disassemble, and rebuild a V8 engine. Ouch! I do not mean to discourage you, but I think you need more than just simple posts on a forum to get you going. Welcome to CCTV, and welcome to our hell!

where is your cctv DVR mounted??

Why do you want to "hide" the DVR? Can you put remote software on to another computer, and have it remote record the video? If the DVR gets "stolen" then you have a copy of the videos. This would be dependent on what type of DVR you have. The first thing you need for hiding the DVR is one that has a remote control. Use this type of a system: http://www.xantech.com/Infrared/Infrared/DLPCRTIrKits/49010DKIT/ The emitter goes over the area that receives the signal from the remote control. You point the remote at the "eye", and it sends the signal to the DVR, and the emitter blinks the codes from the remote control. (Note: This is what is used in hometheaters to remote equipment to a closet). Now you can use the remote control to select camera views, and to see past history ect. I woud look for dead space in the walls. This is hard to do on "simple trac houses", but may be easier with custom large homes. I would look for where there is an A/C closet next to a regular closet. There may be some dead space somewhere in this area. One thing to note. You are going to have to run power to the hiding area. Are you an electrician? Do you have a friend who is an electrician? The other question is about running A/C to the DVR. You do not want the DVR to be in a place that goes above 75 degrees. Any temp above this will put nails in to the coffin, and the DVR will die prematurely. Another option is to hide the DVR under a large desk, or inside a kitchen cabinet, or some other place, and then have a VCR, and a multiplexor in plain site, (or another DVR). Hopefully the crook will steal this instead of continuing to look for a second DVR. This is a good "magician's trick". The other question is "what if your "threat" is from the inside? If you are "rich" then you may have an internal threat, and what if this person knows where you hide the DVR? Security is based on layers of protection. Why not place a live tracking GPS inside of the DVR, and when it gets stolen you just go to a computer, and there is your map with the blue dot where the DVR is located, and contact the police? What do you think?
  12. Can you ping the IP address? There may be some settings on the router that blocks pings, and you may also have a setting such as "block anonymous internet request", or "Filter internet NAT redirection". http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT54G/Gadspot_IP_Camera.htm

    ACV777W nothing on the screen

This is too hard to guess by your post. It could be anything. The first test would be to switch to the other video output. Do you have a picture now, and the main monitor is not working? You may have a bad power supply. This may be the external power supply, or it could be on the main board inside. You will have to do proper tech checks to eliminate the specific problem. This DVR would not be worth putting any money in to.

  17. You will want to use RG 59 coax for the video, and audio, or you will need baluns for each end of none coax wiring. The yellow for video, and red, or white for the audio. TV baluns should do the job.

    Black Screen

I would take a TV that has the yellow video input, and I would put it up on a ladder. Connect the camera to the TV. A No video. Power problem, or camera problem If you have video then power is good, and the camera is good, and this means: B Video Cable issue. It might be the Bnc to RCA adapter that comes with premade cables. Try changing this out. Also bend the cable end left, and righ, or up, and down. See if the video "pops" in, and out. What do you think?

    Multiple DVR Question

I like marketzion idea the best. The "southern engineering" way of doing it is to take the video output of dvr A, and pulling the video plug on one camera on DVR B, and putting the dvr A video on to the camera input of DVR B. You only have 7 cameras so that defeats what you want to accomplish. You can have that DVR B screen full screen that gives you the other DVR A's quad screen, or you can have the DVR B in quad screen where you can see the three cams, and the quad screen of dvr A. Are you confused? You won't be after the next episode of "as the cctv world turns" brought to you by "camera company...."!

How to find a hidden camera?

zmxtech I agree with you 100 percent!! Usually in the "residential" market it is usually the "cheating husband/wife" kind of product that the opposite is trying to find. If one is trying to find cameras that have fiber optic, or other devices then I would say that would be an elevated threat level. I would be on the assumption that an child custody is battling out, or that there is an obcene amount of cash involved. I were to teach a new incoming person to this field then I would have them interview the customer before going out. I like to know if they know who the "threat" is, or is this an "unknown" threat. The case that created the bugging will tell you how to go about "finding" the devices, or how much money, or what is at stake will tell you whether "cheap spy shop gadgets" are used, or if it is going to be "professional" grade stuff. Most of the professional grade stuff the average Joe/Jane off the street would not know where to buy them, or they may not be able to afford them. They will buy them if they cannot afford them to keep custody of a child, or to keep from losing an obcene amount of money through divorce, or business split up. For the unknow threats then I would normally be dealing with a guy who is waiting on the patent rights of a product, and someone is trying to steal the "formula", "product ideas"the technique". People who work in research, and development are at the most risk. They can be spied on by rival companies, or some foreign country who steals product ideas, and mass produces them in quanity, and they could care less about gaining the patent rights. There are those who steal forumulas/product ideas/or techniques, and then they sell them to others. If you do not fall in these "quick" categories then perhaps the customer may fall in to the illegal crowd, or the drug crowd. Now you can expand those threats, and add law enforcement. Note to the new people: You cannot "legally" devulge LE devices to your clients. You can get involved with obstruction of law enforcement, or worse be on the "crud" list. What do you think?

How to find a hidden camera?

If you are trying to "find" it that means someone is trying to "hide" it. If they are hiding it then they may turn off the power when it is not being "used". The lens finder will find the camera even if it is not powered, and the device does not have to be operational to find it. Do not forget that X10 cameras are all on the same channel of 2.4Ghz, and they power off all of the cameras, except the one that was triggered. If the camera is hidden inside of something then you will have have a circuit that allows you to turn down the sensitivity of an ocillator detector. You might find the RF in the center of the room, and now you need to desensitise it to get even closer, and then even closer until you are right on top of the device. What do you think?
