Hosted DVR solution - is there a future?
scorpion replied to ugolog's topic in General Digital Discussion
I would want to know who has access to the video other than the customers. You will have to create some unique marketing for those who want "security is of the essence". How does one over come power outage, and internet down times? Please forgive my questions. -
Frustrated with an ICR KB110 PTZ Controller from ICRealtime
scorpion replied to scorpion's topic in Security Cameras
The solution is to go in to menu operation > Assistant > Auto lock Auto Lock should say NEVER. Now you do not have to log in everytime you want to controll the PTZ. Wow! Now if only the manual stated this in a simple manner! -

That is what you think! I was not giving you the "atta boy" pat on the back. Did you notice your wallet is missing in the back pocket? P.S. Does your wife know that you keep pictures of attractive ladies in your wallet. (based on their looks you must be spending an obcene amount) Tsk! Tsk! -

If I can find someone to lend me the money, then I would do it! I would pay back double for what they provide to make it happen. You do not have to be tied to one wholesaler. The franchises would be tied to you, and you would have to get written agreements that they do not purchase from unapproved sources without Franchisor approval. I would be interested in buying any Mom n Pop CCTV businesses, and storefronts, or Spy Shops. Anyone have a business for sale? -

Perhaps you should come up with a franchise name, and take 5% of sales as advertising, and 3% for overhead. Those companies that wish to grow bigger can "sign up". They change their signage, and participate in regional ad campaigns. You can create ad campaigns based on regional needs, and seasonal sales. You could also create your own distribution channel. It would actually be cheaper for the dealer to buy through you. If they fail to pay their franchise fees then they lose the purchasing power. You can create window clings for large windows, and clings for the entry door. You can print posters, and ceiling danglers, and small signage that goes next to the product aka like you see in a deli/meat market. You could create commercials for TV, and radio. You would leave blank spots so the individual dealer puts in their store address, and telephone number. The advertising could leave out the pricing, and allow the dealer to put in their own price (excluding large campaign that are prepriced). Think of yourself as the fast food franchise where you create the ad campaign, and the dealers look the same, act the same, and have the same products except for regional differences. Instead of Hamburger U the managers attend CCTV U! -

Has anyone used the midnight cameras? I hear these do not suffer from the motion blur that other low lux cameras suffer from because of the open iris which creates motion blur, but it gives you good night time view. I am looking at the AVC 316 from USAG. http://usaginc.com/viewspec.php?sku=US-AVC-316 http://www.usaginc.com/demo/round1.html http://www.usaginc.com/demo/lowlight.html The price is right, but before I order a demo I wanted some feed back on them. Thanks!

I do one, to three door "simple" systems, and nothing exotic. Here is what I use: http://eclipsecctv.com/Access_Control.html My favorite controller (all in one): http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-ACC950_door_controller.html http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-ACC500_Magnetic_Door_Lock.html http://eclipsecctv.com/Push_to_Exit_buttons.html http://scorpiontheater.com/access.aspx

Point it at a disco mirror ball! Point it up in to a tree, and let the foliage bounce it back down. Set it 90 degrees from the camera. In other words the illuminator is to the left of view screen, and the light shines to the right of the view screen. This will give you the "wide" angle effect. Which do you prefer?? I prefer the disco ball!! LOL!

FORGOT THE T Where? Where? OK! I give up! I went through my posts, and I cannot find where I forgot the T. LOL!

wireless DVR box and camera bought separate?
scorpion replied to gadgetbest's topic in Security Cameras
I do not think is is a lack of standards perse as more of the price range that people are willing to spend. Based on that value then there are manufactures who are using parts with wide percentages of tolerance. One receiver may swing to the left of TDC of the freq, and another manufactures transmitter may swing to the right of TDC of the freq. This is why buying RCVR/XMTR as a set is more recommended. The higher in price/quality the less of a problem this may be. 2.4GHz is the standard, and for FCC the wattage is a standard. Everything else is based on a ROI. For the high end P.I.'s then you would be surprised to see them using a $2,000.00 wireless camera / receiver set. ____________________________________________________________ XMTRs built in to cameras: You say they are garbage (maybe those $35.00 sets are) but they really are not. I find them more used outside an envelope for what they were designed for. With the design in mind you can get some pretty good use out of them. If you can spend more than there are def better choices. -

Our sales person comes back from a lead on a Day Care Center. They have allready received a quote for 24 cameras with card access for tracking parents with individual id numbers for 10K. 24 channel means that I have to stack an 8 channel on to a 16 channel to be real low budget. I am not familiar with this bid as I type this post. Most day cares around here are mom and pop, and they cannot rub two nickels together if they tried. This sounds like one of the national chains as the building is under construction. We were told that they have received a bid for everything installed at $10k WHAT?? Must be trunk thumper with cheapo china cards thrown in to a Dell $500.00 computer, or something. I can retail one door access at $1000.00, and I might be able to retail 24 cameras, and a 24 channel DVR system at $8,500.00. I have not included labor. Can any of you retail the above for $10K ??? If you can do this would you be kind enough to let me know what equipment you are using to smash a low bid? I cannot see how to do this, and make any money. By the time I pay the sales guy his cut, and the installers their cut, and then I turn around, and match the social security, and the ect, and then figure what the van is worth for a day plus fuel it appears that I make nothing. Hmmm. Interesting bid!! I think I will walk away with this one, and let the Day Care call when all hell breaks lose, and they need a real tech for repair, and support. Thanks

You will find the N/P on page 30 of the manual. Take care,

It may be the RTC chip that is effected. You are not going to get much help from a local shop, unless you can find real electronic hobbyist to locate the chip (next to the battery), and replace it. If it is under warranty then you need to take it back. If it is out of warranty then see if you can find a damaged model on Ebay for the parts. Here is a thread on AVTech DVR battery issues with a link to RTC chip. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=16936 It might be enough info to get you started.

Avtech & EagleEyes - What version & what Phone?

http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=16178 Imac Airport Extreme AVTECH 760 Video server e running on windows PC Iphone Jaadu VNC ( iphone app £14.99) While I can not seam to run a native CCTV app on my iphone for the avtech with out spending some cash I though i would give this ago. 1. I downloaded jaadu VNC from the appstore ( they do mac and windows version) which in a nutshell is remote software for you MAC. The software allows you to see you mac screen in full colour and zoom in. 2. I port forwarded using my airport extreme to my avtech 760 using video server e to set the ip address etc ( you can do this via the dvr direct but it's hard work) - PM me if you want details as it was not easy. 3. I fired up firefox which support java and logined in to my avetch via the browser. 4. I then fired up my remote viewing software on my iphone and there you have it - full colour, full key board control video server e software on my iphone ( well viewing on my iphone) The good thing about jaadu VNC is that you can fully control you mac or PC, so you can select different cameras if you wish and it really does work. I have used it over wifi and 3G perfectly. edge was a little slower but usable. Limitations - none except you need to have you PC or MAC on. (On a mac you can wake from WAN if you are hardwired). Hope this help fellow avtech and iphone users -

I do not have a lot of customers who have me set up cell phones for viewing. This is why I have no information on what works, and what does not work. It does not help that I am not a programmer by trade. Perhaps someday I will have someone on staff that understands Flash, and Java, and the various interactions where work around aps can be developed. The problem that I have is the situation where most of my customers who buy the entry level DVRs are not going to spend more money to help "sponsor" research. Take a fake example. If I were to tell someone that it would cost an extra $100.00 to set up cell phone viewing then all I would be listening to would be the sound of crickets in the background, and they would probably tell me "never mind". All I can do is a cut and paste from this site, and shove the info on to a webpage, and just gather "evidence" for others to read. Port 80 seems to be a common problem with cell phone viewing from what I have gathered. It is recommended in some cases to change it off of 80 due to cell phone service providers issues. How does one decompile Eagle Eyes (new, or old)??? The biggest request right now is for the Iphone. All I can do is use an ap to get to a local Mac computer running Firefox, and then control the DVR from the desktop. I would love to get an ap that would let an Iphone connect directly to an AVTech DVR. My fear is that I am going to have to hire someone, and then advertise the solution, and then have to sell it for a profit, and use those funds to pay the person who created the software.
