I am trying to think of someone who knows something about AVTech DVRs. Nope! I cannot think of anyone! You might try this guy? http://scorpiontheater.com/troubleshooting.aspx -
Enabling my cctv network to be viewed via internet.
scorpion replied to petrolh34d's topic in Computers/Networking
Have you set up the portforward for your router? You may not get video until you do so. I do not know if that is the problem, but it could be. What port does the DVR use? Do you have a www dot weblink dot com for the manual online? -
Thanks Youreo! I wish my accuracy was that great while I was in high school! The fence post camera has got to be my most favorite job to date! http://scorpiontheater.com/law.aspx (scroll down the page).

Here is a free application that I am using: http://www.tweetlater.com/ It was free! I am using it to automatically send a DM (Direct Message) in my twitter account. When someone sees me, and they select me so that they can follow me then they automatically get a message from me. I am thanking them for the follow, and I am showing them the URL to my website. I get the first chance at "name recognition" if they pay attention to my Twitter account name. I get another chance if they so desire to click on my URL. If they click on my twitter account name, and they go to my homepage then they see more info that brands me. If they follow, and read my tweets then they see info, or they learn info that I provide in my tweets. I do not want to over do it, and I do not want to "spam" per say. If I self promote then I may get clicked to unfollow! I do not want to be unfollowed! Now I have to come up with a way to promote my business name, provide education to the public, and provide a interesting place to learn, or read. The application allows me to type a message, and have it sent at a particular time. This would be great to send some messages if I was tied up with a meeting, or if I took some down time. I do not know how this would best work for me, but I could do a prize giveaway where I can send it at a specified time, and then see which one responds the fastest. I can check my email account in regards to DM sent from my Twitter account. First one wins! Interesting! Now I have to get the creative juices flowing to see how I can be dynamic, engaging, and interesting, and "win the hearts, and minds"!

I am not in your area so I will defer to what ever local laws, codes, and prefered elevator installation practices that are used in your area. You will have to decide if you want to top mount the transmitter, or bottom mount the transmitter. You will have to mount the receiver on the same side as where you mounted the transmitter. If you top mount on the cab, then the receiver will have to be at the top of the shaft. What freq will you use? Since you are not paying the elevator company to come out, and add a CCTV cable to the follow cable, then I can assume you are not going to have the FCC issue you a freq for you to use, and you do not want to pay for the license. This means you will have to use a license free freq. 2.4Ghz is free, but you may pick up interference from wireless 802.11 routers, or from 2.4Ghz cordless phones, and other sources of interference. I would defer that you have the elevator company come out, and add to the follower cable. You may find that you cannot run a complete video surveillance system using the shaft to run all of the CCTV wires from the various floors to one destination such as a DVR. You may find the elevator wire ok, but not the other camera wires. You will have to check your local codes. There is fear that the elevator shaft may spread a fire if there is a source of fuel to help spread the fire from floor to floor. Using conduit for your CCTV cables may make the system more exceptable for allowing the cables in the shaft. Notes: You may have interference from your own wireless system. The signal may bounce off the walls causing interference. You may want to test your wireless solution prior to an install. Do not use smoke detector covert cameras unless they are real detectors with the cctv added. Use covert motion instead. Stainless steel corner mini cameras are good for budget systems, but vandal resistant cameras may be preferred. For 17 floors you may want to have zones setup for wireless. In other words one receiver for the lower half of the shaft, and one at the top for the top half of the shaft. You might try a one watt transmitter to see how the signal works from the first floor to the top, or vice versa depending where the transmitter is mounted.

I found it today when I was going through direct messages. I am bombarded with messages, and yours got lost as the others piled in. This is why they say not to follow so many people! I am hiring 20 commisioned based sales people. If you are interested in doing something in California, then I would be glad to work out something with you! I would tell others to respond to the email address posted for faster responce. Take care,

************************************************************* ************************************************************* I have crossed over to the dark side!! I have completely changed my mind about twitter! I originally thought is was a fast way to communicate your thoughts. I believed based on other users that you just make a post of what you are doing at that moment in time. I just thought it was stupid to read about the little trivial details in one's life. Here is what I have learned! If you are someone very, very famous then this works as your "fans" will want to know about your true day to day life. What I have learned is that there were 50 people linking to my website based on my websites reports. Whoa! I have found a new medium to promote my website! This is very interesting! What I have done is I had about 200, or 300 people that I was following, and I had about 150 people following me. I got rid of all of the "movie stars" and famous people that were not following me except a very few that I do want to keep tabs on. I started looking for those on twitter who have a large following, and then I clicked on their followers, and now I am following those users. I get emails in my regular email account, and I can keep this for several days to see if they add me and follow me. After several days I can check the date time group of the email, and if they do not follow me then I go to my twitter account, and I erase them. When I add someone in, then they will get an email that says ScorpionTheater is following you. Those that are curious will look at my account, and see my posts, or they may click on my links, or see my website, and go there. When I stop following someone I wonder if they get an email that scorpiontheater is no longer following you? Now I have a large amount of real followers, and I follow them. Many of these are first time posters, and they appreciate that someone is following them. This group appears to be more "reciprocol" then other groups. The ones that I get rid of are mostly large businesses that do not follow back, or they are teenagers. The teenagers are easy to spot as they do not have pictures, or avatars. That does not mean much as adults have the same thing. I erase the adults too if they do not follow. Now everyone gets an email that I am following them. After time I erase the ones who do not follow back. I get emails where someone is following me, and I also get direct messages from people who thank me for following them, or they have a weblink to their website, or they have a link to somewhere that allows them to make money from that link. You can easly guess from the young attractive ladies in the avatars where some of these links will lead you so close your eyes on those! There appear to be all kinds of twitter accounts. There are the survivor's group of just about every imaginable sadness, disease, and cancer. There are those Twitter account of realestate, marketing, social networking, and there are the news accounts from CNN to news bloggers, and then there is every imaginable hobby, and interest that you can think of! I added a service, and now my account is on auto pilot, and I am gaining 100 followers a day since I made my new awarness, and took this serious. Now I need to refine my marketing campaing all around to blend different things in to one mass media promotion! Guerrilla Marketing at it's best! Just don't over do it! You can become the "spammer" of post, and people will soon bore with you, or your self promotion. Mix up your posts with links to your blogs, or provide "how to" post, or start a conversation, and let others chit back, and forth making your account more interesting, and worthwhile to follow! What do you think?

Help on Avtech AVD717D, restoring footage of formated drives
scorpion replied to slam's topic in Digital Video Recorders
If the hard drives are in a computer then you will have to create an emulator to act like the DVR. The software in the DVR is propietary, and they hard drives will not work in a PC. If you have captured the data then perhaps you can mirror them, and place them back in to the DVR to see if they play? There is no experience out there as this is not a hobby situation that would used, or is this common among installers. I wish I could help you more. -
Thanks! I appreciate the heads up! Also: Has anyone else tested one? I would appreciate any feed back!

I would have to be there on site in order to understand the problem. If you can see the video on the local LAN then this tells me the DVR is working just fine, and the Cat 5 cable to the router is fine. Have you done portforward on your router? What port number are you using? I am thinking that you need to delete Video Server E, and reload it. If this does not work then you need to delete it again, and then turn your computer off twice, and then when it comes back up you will need to down load another copy of Video Server E, and assume that your disk is corrupt. What do you think? -
Just out of curiosity what does this camera do in complete darkout, such as in a room where the lights get turned off. I am not expecting miracles. I am just curious. Can the camera be top mounted or ceiling mounted? In other words there are some ceiling mount cameras that give a side ways picture when wall mounted because they do not have a gimble. Thanks

You are right, I should have said slow shutter instead of saying open iris. Thanks!
-
I must apologize. I missunderstood. I thought you wanted a camera that can see in complete darkness, and give you color. I did not realize that you wanted a $100 camera that gave B/W exept where there is low lighting.
-
There are some cameras that can do that in the $600.00 retail price range. You can buy one at demo prices if you need one.
-
Buy a BNC jumper cord, and cut off one end and solder the two wires together, or use screw molex connectors. The power you can just use butt connectors.

There are devices that you can plug in to your USB connection and it will give you 4 video inputs, and you can connect 4 regular wired cameras. You can get small "mini" cameras http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-554_mini_camera.html and you can hide them in silk plants, or you can cut out a hole in a box of some sort. You can buy coverts http://eclipsecctv.com/hidden_surveillance_cameras.html For a master bedroom you can use a clock radio. The cheap ones will allow you to find the camera if you look close up, and the expensive ones will use smoke plastic to hide them behind. The range on the products for wireless will be more meaningful to you if you cut that distance in half. There are stand alone devices that have a built in DVR. They record to an SD card. This can be a simple box that you throw at the bottom of a stack of music CD's or you can have a device that hides in a special a tissue box to make it covert. There are devices that send the video over the electrical cord in to your wall, and it uses the electrical wiring in your walls as the transmission medium, and you pull the video out from another wall socket. Look at your room. What would blend in with out drawing attention? How about computer speakers that have a hidden camera? I love the PIR detectors the best. They never draw attention to them, and I have beat 90% of the arguments with them. They are usually above your line of sight, and out of mind. http://scorpiontheater.com/cvr.aspx What do you think?

Can you take it back to your dealer for warranty? I do not know what problem you have. You might try pulling the battery off the mainboard if it is out of date. It may be that the battery is not recharging, and that is the default date. Usually we see a date time group with the year 2000 when that is the case. It could also be the chip that the battery is working with to retain the date time group. http://scorpiontheater.com/avtparts.aspx

AVTech avc785 firmware newer than available?
scorpion replied to jabaroon's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Sometimes it is better to stay with an older proven one then to get the latest, and the greatest then find out that there may be a new bug. This will not affect you as yours came off the line with matching chipsets to your firmware. There may be a case where an older DVR may not work with the latest firmware as a chipset may not have been updated to go with the firmware. For those of you who come to this post from a search engine then I will tell you that most times you will not need to update your firmware. If you are having a problem then this means that there are 1000 to 50,000 other DVRs that are going to have the same problem. We are going to be quickly informed if there was an issue that a DVR needed a firmware update. Most times I am finding people who are doing something custom, and are trying to resolve an issue. An update is still going to leave them with the same problem. One issue is the recent change from where the DVR no longers transmit video over the net using JPEG. The DVR is now using MPEG to transmit over the internet. There is an FTP problem with the latest release. The engineers from Taiwan flew to Florida, and they have duplicated the same problem, and now they have to come up with a solution. The next round of DVRs will have to have a chipset change, or they will have to rewrite the whole firmware to get the FTP situation resolved. What do you think? -
Test the cameras with freeze spray, and a hot air dryer to see if it may be temperature related as it warms up during the morning.
