DVR- Internet access - old story, old problems but still....
scorpion replied to Tomislav's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
OK. You have a static IP address. Lets stop using the IP chicken address as this may be a DHCP address. OK. Number one. we know your DVRs works Number two. We know the video can be seen locally on the local computer on your LAN. Number three We need to resolve remote viewing. I might even have the ISP ping the static IP just to make sure that they configured it correctly. You may have a bad bin for all you know? Can you ping your static ip address from a remote location? If no then HHHMMMMMM! IF yes then we are remotely communicating, and we need to find what the next troubleshooting step will be. -

The ipchicken is giving you a remote port number. I would not worry about this number. I would only concentrate on the port number of your DVR. Unless it was the remote port number is listed as the same as your DVR port number? I do not know what you mean by the 72 number. I assume that you are talking about the 172 number that you mentioned before? I do not know what the 172 number is. You said that this came from your ISP. Is this a static IP that was assigned to you? You would know because you would have had to ask for it. Static IPs in our area means that you have to bump up from residential class to business class, and the rate goes up with it, and this would be your other clue. -

If you change the port from 80 to 75 then you will need to change the the settings in the router for port forwarding. I am also confused as I thought you were at work, and the DVR was at your residence. I was curious to how you changed your port number. You must live close by? Also: Video Server E, or Video Viewer is only for AVTech DVRs. -

If it works internally, and not externally then there is an issue with the router. It may be that the DVR that you are using requires the software. You never mentioned if you could ping the address remotely, or not. You may be comunicating with the WAN address (IPCHICKEN), but not syncing up with the DVR. When you said that you might need Video Server E then I just assumed that you had an AVTech DVR. Since you need three ports open then this is not an AVTech DVR. Is this a PC based DVR, or is this a stand alone DVR? Yes it is possible that you are having issues with port 80. We always recommend that you change port 80 to a different number. I am wondering if you have a firewall at work that is preventing you from seeing your DVR at home? _____________________________________________________________ Is this the same setup that you are talking about from the past? -

Quad with mulitple video outputs
scorpion replied to protecvideo's topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
The single channel that you want to feed to the far away monitor then I would have you do this. Go from the camera to the Quad (multiplexor). Before you plug the camera in to the quad I would have you plug it in to this: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103065&cp=&sr=1&origkw=composite+distribution&kw=composite+distribution&parentPage=search then plug one output to the quad, and another you can use to feed the far away monitor. What do you think? -

I am really confused as to why you are having problems. OK! You, and me both. Using the IP chicken this is the number that you will be using for your outside remote access IP address. What port number did you say that you were using on your DVR? Lets try an experiment. Lets assume that your ip chicken says 71.187.250.136 put this in to your browser with a colon, and the port number of your DVR 71.187.250.136:80 Does this work? If the number by itself does not work, and adding the port number does not work then the next step is to use the remote software. If those options do not work then we will have to assume there is a router setup issue. The DVR outputs on the lan so this passes the troubleshooting test. I did not understand why you have 3 ports open on your router? http://scorpiontheater.com/videoviewer.aspx http://scorpiontheater.com/troubleshooting.aspx -

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! I AM AN UNTRAINED AMATURE BEGINNER WITH NO YEARS OF COLLEGE TRAINING. TINKERER BEWARE!!!!! This is not pointed to the person who posted this, and is only said to those who come here from a search engine. OK! enought of the legalese! Using the ground of the coax you now can use the two conductor as two separte wires. Only you can tell if this will work for you. If you do not have an electronice background then do not attempt this at all!!!! Ask someone to help you. With the red wire make this your +, and the coax braid your -. With the black wire make this your data +. This probably will not work if the RS232 needs to have a "floating" ground. If the RS232 works with the - tied to the coax ground then you are good to go. If you are not electronically oriented then do NOT PUT THE 12 VOLTS + ON THE COAX BRAID! POOF! NOW YOU HAVE DONE IT! What do you think? My dad's a T.V. repairman, and he's got an awesome set of tools! I can fix it! Spicoli Fast Times at Ridgemont High

remote veiwing of cameras using dvr system
scorpion replied to rabbitrob789's topic in Digital Video Recorders
When you get home open Video Viewer, and click on the add icon (the green plus sign). Put in the ip address of the WAN IP address of the first DVR (Use two different port numbers on each DVR in the menu>Advanced>Networking) Insert the port number for the first DVR. Question: Will you use the same user name, and password on both DVRs, or would you use the same user name, but two different passwords, or two different user names, and two different passwords? In video viewer type in the user name, and password of the first DVR. In the comment section type in something that will help you name each DVR so that you can tell them apart. Click on apply. Click the add icon again, and insert the info of the second DVR. Now you can log in to the first DVR. When the video comes up, you can then log in to the second DVR at the same time. You can view all of the cameras at once, or you can page between the two DVRs. How does that sound? -

Ask Rory! He says that he his eyes have been affected by looking at IR over a period of years. He says he will never stare at them again! -
Does your DVR use Video Server E? It will be a settings error. If it uses Video Viewer then you have the new A series DVR. This DVR no longer use JPEG, and you have lost this option. A complaint has been sent in to AVTech. They flew to miami to see a DVR in action for themselves. They have verified the problem, and they are in stages to see what they can do to resolve this problem.

Any idea where to download f/w for avtech avc761?
scorpion replied to ambo's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Video Viewer is the latest viewer for the A series DVR. They have made it backwards compatible with the older DVRs. Video Server E cannot connect to the A series DVRs. -

scorpion replied to ambo's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Your DVR uses Video Server E. This tells me that your DVR is not an A series model. You will only be able to use the highest firmware designed for that DVR. If you use newer firmware then you will run in to problems. JPEG is part of the FTP. The A series DVR does not use JPEG, and it uses MPEG. The A series DVR does not have the FTP function. Perhaps jumping up in firmware levels has left your functions dead. Which Firmware did you say you had originally? -
I do not know much about those devices. I do have a manual for those that need one. http://scorpiontheater.com/Documents/Lorex_SG15F6584_Manual_8ch.pdf I wish I could be of more help.

A hardware reset will not take it back to the original firmware. For those that plan on doing firmware upgrades I will warn you not to do any hardware reset while doing the upgrade. If you do a hardware reset, and you have a firmware that does not work for you then the firmware stays permanently, and your DVR becomes a door stop. The reason that you are having problems finding firmware is because alot of DIY were installing the wrong firmwares then they were wanting to sue the website to repair/replace their DVRs. Now all of the knowledable DIY that are technically inclined will have to suffer due to the actions of the very few who ruined it for everyone one else. I never ended up under a law suit, but I saw the writing on the wall as well. The problem lies with knowing which firmware to install with which PC board. Do you use Video Server E, or do you use Video Viewer? -

The day care gave us the brush off. We took too long to get a quote back to them so "they went with someone else"! Too bad! I did not want to do a multi platform project for that price. Do not get me wrong. I will do a cheap bid in this economy just "to make a buck", but I am not going out on a limb with the liability where children are involved. I see too much coming back in my lap down the road. I believe they were quoting a fictious price to see what they could get. I think they all ready had a "vendor" that is pre arranged through the franchisor. The sales guy is mad at me. Too bad. He is only thinking about his commision. If I take back his commision for a liability then I wonder if he would change his mind? -

I would have you start a new thread, and then give more details. I assume by the first link that you have done a hardware reset. The hardware reset should not make you lose video. Were you doing something else while doing a hardware reset? I look forward to your new thread, and I hope I can get you some answers! -
Thank you! The website is like working on an antique car. Just when I think it is done I find another project to work on! Take care

Suggestions and assistance please.

Your post was not offensive. The person with the perfect answer for you has not logged in to their computer, and they have not seen your post. Most of us installers, are working more out in the field then we used to, and there is less, and less of us viewing posts. Blame it on the economy! I did not answer as I do not work with the equipment that you listed. If you want info on how to connect to the internet then I would plug you to this webpage: http://scorpiontheater.com/videonetworkingwithavtech.aspx Give this one time to load: http://scorpiontheater.com/Documents/AVTech_Guide_Networking_AVC7XX_Linksys_Info_2A_Line2.pdf http://scorpiontheater.com/Documents/AVTech_Guide_Networking_Setup_Linksys.pdf http://scorpiontheater.com/Documents/AVTech_Guide_Networking_Setup_Dlink.pdf http://scorpiontheater.com/router.aspx As for multiplexors I would have you read the product manuals. I hope that is not too many links for you! Take care, -
