Installed new system - not impressed with results- help!
scorpion replied to s60_alex's topic in General Digital Discussion
I cannot take credit for the "Christmas Tree" of cameras. Someone else did this install. The problem with that particular setup was the fact that the road was an s shape, and the gate was right in the middle of the S. The cameras are pointed at a 45 degree angle to the plates, and the road. This setup suffered every failure that you can think of to include the same ones in this post, and more. Correcting the angle of the cameras to give them a straight on shot had the cars to far away for the lense installed. They also had the interlacing problems, and that was magnified with the 45 degree angle which is the same as the photo in this thread. Since the cameras are located at the gate then the cars are actually speeding up, and moving away from the gate making it that much harder to read the plates. The picture in this thread is real high, and pointed down so technically you have two different angles working on the camera verses the plate. If the camera was brought down to camera level then this would help the poster, and if the camera were more on line with the axis of the plate then this would help. The HOA had two crashes where the gates, and the mechanism had to be replaced. After spending over $20,000 in repairs, and no identification of who had done the damage then it became a new project for the HOA to resolve the camera issues. I was brought on board as an advisor, and provided the ICRealtime Speed Bump Camera solution. I took a very dangerous approach, and gave the HOA 14 days to evaluate the Bump with a NO question asked return policy. I was sweating those 14 days afraid that I might lose a sale. They were so happy with it that they ordered a second one for the outgoing side. I had never ordered one of these Speed Bump Cameras so it was a learning situation for me as well. I knew I had a good thing when the HOA guy sends me a picture in an email where all of his house lights are off, and the only light source is the license plate light, and the plate is 100% readable! Note: He did most of the testing in his driveway. With the return policy we did not want to mark the bump with tire marks until after they were sure that they wanted it. We did some testing at the gate, and it was amazing how much the cars would slow down! This was an amazement to the HOA as they have been trying to come to a resolution about this for a long time. They refused to put in speed bumps themselves. At first they did not like the idea of a bump until they understood that the bump is narrow, and that you just simply drive over it without ever having the wheels come in contact with the bump. Motorcycles would just aim their bikes around the bump. We are doing a camera bump incoming, and outgoing, and we have a non camera bump in the middle to get the cars to line up with the bumps. -

I would think it would be better to get the plate before the gate opens. I am surprised that you have this much of a problem at 5 MPH. Most people are going to be going faster then 5 MPH once they get past the gate, and I think that would make you LPR that much harder. Can the camera be moved to get a more dead on shot, rather then a 45 degree offset shot? For an HOA that had an S shaped road, and bad camera positioning I had them try a Speed Bump Camera. It allowed the camera to be closer to the car, and it gave a dead on shot to the plate. This worked for them, and now they are ordering a second one for the out going side. http://scorpiontheater.com/speedbumpcamera.aspx -
Also note that there may not be any TV shows on selected channels, but the cable company may be using that channel for stuff such as guide info, or to control DVRs, and on demand video, and such. The modulator should have a dial to control the output level. The trick to this is to control the amplifier with the cable feed, and the modulator to get an even "teeter totter" effect. To much cable signal, and then you have snow on the modulated, and too much mod signal then you start killing digital channels, or hi def signals, and/or you lose video on demand, and guide functions.

Using Blackberry bold to see avtech remote viewer ?
scorpion replied to asoy's topic in General Digital Discussion
I went in to a Sprint Store that had a large variety of phones that were activated, and put on display. I tried various phones with an AVC 760 (Video Server E model), and I could not get most of the "high end" phones to work. Blackberry was one of the ones that I could not get to work. It appeared the simpler the phone the easier I could get them to work as long as it was web accessable. I believe none of the phones are going to work with the AVC 760A (Video Viewer model). I have not had time to prove this theory, but I believe that is what I am going to find if I went back to the Sprint Store. There is an AVTech DVR that is specially designed for 3G viewing though! -
Has anyone used the audio function of the AVC 760A?

Has anyone used the audio function of the AVC 760A locally, or remotely? Thanks -
Nubix/ AVC760 call monitor question
scorpion replied to Jim Barrett's topic in Digital Video Recorders
You might be able to change the time period for the sequence. If you make it longer perhaps it will stay on the alarmed channel longer before it sequences again (at a slower rate). -

I wish someone could have taken a photo of my face when he answered the door, and shows me the box that he ordered on line! I find it ironic how "anal" he was about all of the install points yet he is using this. I should have mounted the cameras with bubble gum, and then said YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! -

Yes, I patched it, but I do not paint. I had originally installed the camera, and had the camera lead run back to the hole with the wire attached to the soffit. The owner tells me his wife does not like to see the wiring, and she is "all upset". I told him that I could pull it through, but he is going to have all of these holes. He did not care about the holes, and I described a more brutal way to pull the wires, and then showed him what I did after the fact, and he was actually relieved to see a low impact solution. The funny thing was the guy did not remove any of the items above his garage in storage so that I could run my wires. That was real interesting trying to manuever around all of these Christmas display boxes that looked like he was decorating Disney World, or something! HERE IS A TEST! This is a 1.5 million dollar home! Did you notice the RJ11 camera connections? The customer bought the "all in one" 4 cam kit, and hired me to only install it. I tried to talk him out of it, but he refuses to budge! -
4 channel video modulator
scorpion replied to Armyofone's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Up until a couple of years ago this install would have been easy. QUESTION: Do they have Hi Def? NO: Then there are a lot of options. http://www.channelvision.com/files/guides/diagramsLayouts.pdf http://channelvision.com/files/guides/Filters_And_DigitalCable.pdf YES: Then you are going to have to run separate wires to each TV, and use a composite video input. In this case you do not need to use a modulator. There is a technique where you can cut a coax up in the attic, and you can insert a device. This acts like an A/B switch. It will flip from cable/sat to the input that has the mod signal. This device is controlled up the coax from below with a IR coax "tap". http://www.channelvision.com/products/index/88 http://www.channelvision.com/products/view/427/88 http://beta.channelvision.com/uploads/1215557281_P-0321_MixedSystem.pdf What do you think? -

Nice Cell Phone Camera huh? You would think the amount of money you spend on a phone they would give you a quality lens. There is not much I can do for the photos. If I could figure a way to sell the info, and have advertising then maybe I can hire a video crew, and be the next "Bob Villa", or "John Greviskis" from Ship Shape http://www.shipshapetv.com/ Welcome to this Old CCTV! Hi I'm Scorpion, and in this episode we are going to...... It does not cost me anything to take a picture with the cellphone, and it does not cost much to put it on the website so the informations is message. Thanks for the feedback! -
help with installing dome cameras under eave
scorpion replied to alpine0000's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
On some styles I can just grab the flashing, and bend them towards the ground, and pull the soffit out. It can be a bear trying to get the soffit back in as you have to hold the flashing down while you try to shove the soffit back in. -
help with installing dome cameras under eave
scorpion replied to alpine0000's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Under your gutter I am going to guess that there is metal flashing that is L shaped, and the soffit sits on top of this, and it may be stapled in to the trusses. Find some nails on the flashing, and remove them. You will need to go one nail past where you will be working to the left, and to the right. Take your hands with one with palms up, and one with palms down, and curl your fingers, and then interlock them. This is how the soffits are connected together. When you have the flashing removed then you can slide the soffit away from the house. You can also man handle them since they are plastic, and you can force them out. -
If tech support can see your cameras then there is nothing wrong. When you get to the "house" is this the same place where your cameras are located? Are the cameras located somewhere else, and you are trying to remote in to them from the "house"? If the cameras are else where, and you are remoting in then you may have an active X issue. Using Micro Soft browser log in to the DVR, and see if you can see video. If you cannot then go to (XP) tools > internet options > Genral Tab. Delete Temporary Internet Files. Open a new browser, and log in to the DVR. You should get an Active X request to load. Allow it to RUN. This should fix your viewing problems. If this does not then you will need to hire someone local who can look at your situation, and troubleshoot for you.

"Halo" image in night time pictures (dome IR)
scorpion replied to ronhithcox's topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
This can be seen in a lot of cameras where the IR does not throw as far as needed for the distance of the viewing area. http://scorpiontheater.com/irlab.aspx Measure from the camera out to the viewing area, and then double this distance, and that is the IR distance rating that you need from your camera. What are your camera's IR distance, and how far is the area from the camera? -
Maybe it is "backing up" video? Backing up/beeping? OK! It is not funny, but I tried!

help with installing dome cameras under eave
scorpion replied to alpine0000's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Those panels will pop out, and you can see what is up there. You can get some 2X4s, or what have you, and you can nail them to your rafters to make a mounting point for your domes. Find a long "stick", or a rod. Stick the stick/rod up in to the attic. Climb up in to the attic, and connect your wiring to the stick/rod with electrical tape. Get down out of the attic, and then pull the rod out of the attic, and the wire will follow. Cut a hole through the soffit, and push the wire through. Place the soffit back in place. Install your connectors on the wiring, and install your cams on the mounting point, and you should be good to go! Do you have room to move around in the attic space above the area where you are mounting the cameras? -
I volunteer to check in on the DVR on a daily basis to verify all cameras are working, and that the internet connection is up!

I will place my bet on Video Loss.

Nubix/ AVC760 call monitor question
scorpion replied to Jim Barrett's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I do not know much about the call monitor sequence. I would assume the same as you! The manual says this: When any alarm is triggered, CALL monitor will show the image of the triggered channel for a period of time Does the alarm icon show on screen? Is the alarm set to off, or N.O. or N.C. in the Detection Menu? There are no pitfalls using ATT DSL. It is a lot of fun setting up the modem for a static IP! http://scorpiontheater.com/att.aspx Take care! -

It is a completly new model. It no longer has the JPEG option. It is MPEG recording, and MPEG over the internet. Video Viewer can connect to the older DVRs. Video Server E cannot connect to the newer DVR. You can download Video Viewer here: http://scorpiontheater.com/videoviewer.aspx Is there anything that you need from me to help you with the new model? Thanks!

Does this work with the newer AVC 760 that use the Video Viewer instead of the Video Server E? Thanks

view images remotely from a Raysharp 6009UV HELP
scorpion replied to emilenaim's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I cannot find anylinks for this DVR. I was looking for a manual. I am assuming that there may be more than one port that this DVR uses, and you may have to open those up on the router as well. If it worked before then this might be a different problem. If it worked before then it should work again, and you just need to find that "magic bullet" that allowed it to work. If you have the active x loaded then that should be the "cure". You have me stumped!
