AvTech 785 DVR change simultaneously the image
scorpion replied to ngzolee's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
There is not way to fix this. You will have to make changes when they are not viewing. Who ever owns the DVR has the rights to set the DVR as they see fit. I would wonder why you would not want another person to see you make changes in the menu, or to change camera views. I am sorry to give you bad news. -
I get lost in these posts: Is the AVC761 (video server E) or AVC761A (video viewer)? Is the 760 (video server E) or 760A (video viewer) ???? You cannot take a firmware from a video viewer model, and install it in to a video server e model. The boards are different.

Cable and satellite DVR compared to security DVR
scorpion replied to bass1's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Lets change the playing field to make it equal. Pass a law that says the cable company, and the sat dish company must store 24 hours of tv programing, and they must keep this for 7 days. That is 48 1/2 programs a day times 7 days that equal a total of 336 1/2 hours shows! Now lets see what the video is going to look like as they try to shove all of the programing in to the same hard drive. Note: Lets make it harder, and tell the company's that they cannot change the hard drive, and they must use the original hard drive. The companies would refuse!! If they complied then your video would be compressed, and you would lose quality. If this fake scenerio were to happen then it would be a boon to CCTV. There would be some real serious research, and development! To use the sat PIR, and the cable DVR then you would have to use a modulator to get the CCTV video in to the box. Then you would have to tell it which show to record in the same time that you want it to record. You will not have video before the record time, or after the record time. You would have to reprogram the box to get 24 hour recording. -
It take a combination of all of the above. It is more a matter of the customers budget. Cameras to be seen to deter. Why pay to have damaged items repaired such as cash registers that get thrown to the floor ect. Then again they can damage the cameras so some hidden ones will back up the other cameras. In some cases you can place "fake" cameras so that they take the hit, and the hidden cameras capture the event. In day cares for instance you want the cameras to be seen in the parking lot, and the front desk. It the kitchen, and food storage area you will want to use the covert motion detectors to catch employees who think they have a right to take food home for their family without permission. Where security is of the essence then I agree with many combinations of cameras. http://scorpiontheater.com/cvr.aspx

So is everything else I describe. The LE's give me the court order, and I have a prewritten agreement with the power company even though I am using the cable service. Port sniffing cable is illegal too. I have to CYA in every detail!

AVC761: Tuning Motion Detection for Movement not Brightness
scorpion replied to todd2's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Well said! -
I was showing you the camera, and the lens setup. I thought that the spec sheet on the camera would be of value. As to the video I am in the process of setting up gate cams the wrong way to get bad shots to show the failures in LPR. The most common is where cameras are not dead on to a plate. There are situations where cars drive from left to right of a LPR camera. It is just like a person walking past a window. You have a short time to grab the plate. Then on top of that you have fields per second that create lines in the video, and it is next to impossible to see the plate info clearly. There are DVRs that are not fast enough to catch an image. There are lense that do not let enough light through, and then the camera has to hold the shutter open longer ruining a video shot. Getting back to the link! LOL! This is a camera that I am recommending to you. Will it meet your application requirment? Someday when I get a vacation I will finish that page, and be done with the "construction". Wishful thinking on my part!

Not exactly. Answer is not that easy. I have a lot of issues going against me. Customer wants to rent not buy. Customer wants to view in house as well as from home. Customer wants to not have anyone other than himself and one other involved. Customer wants the equipment installed after Midnight. Customer does not want cameras to be easily seen. Customer wants the impossible because of item #1. Thoughts??? I do not see any barriers to what you are asking. Then again I may be missing your point. Perhaps I can portray a "telephone man", or a "cable guy", or what ever is needed at the time. My installs are more construction related such as no attic, or two story home. Getting surveillance inside of a building and making it covert is a piece of cake. The trick, or the hard part is getting the information outside of the house. Wireless cameras: You have seen the posts for regular basic installs, and you can multiply that if you are trying to use a 100mWatt transmitter, and you think you are going to sit in a "VAN" somewhere, and watch video. Video over power. It is only as good on the outside of a building up to the transformer. You can always drill a hole between the carpet, and an exterior wall, and run wires out the building, but then you still have to figure how to get the info outside of the house. Antennas in an attic is a dead give away so that may not be an option for covert installs. I would have to know more of what information your client wants to better design a system for them. You have seen the show "To Catch A Predator". Can you duplicate that setup, and have it work for you? Lets bolt a PTZ to a telephone pole, and plug your modem in to the cable tap. (You need the number to PAC, and the mac address). Is the "customer" "filming" themselves, or are they setting up video for another person, and they are watching them? If it is illegal, then I would stop advising as I do not want to be an "accessory". (unless there is an obcene amount of cash so that I can pay a lawyer, and pay my bail)! For a couple of thousand dollars I have a device that you can plug, and play, and it is covert. Hey! Wait a minute! Now I get it!!!! Is there some cute College Girls involved???? Wow! I want to be a landlord!!!

Video E Server Software 1.0.6.9
scorpion replied to knutech's topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
Video Sever E is unavailable! There is no place to download such a program, or software! OOOOPs! My wife says I have a copy on my own website! Who knew? Sorry to mislead you! Here it is! http://scorpiontheater.com/videoviewer.aspx Take care! -
This is not an answer for Dizzy. I am more talking to myself to hear me think! Here is my problem! I cannot experiment with my customers DVRs as I do not want to buy one. I would like to collect working DVRs and then do some experimenting. I can tell you that on a newer DVR that uses Video Viewer you cannot use the firmware CPD5601_AVC7601_2030. This does not have the A in the the model number. This would be the original DVR that uses Video Server E. Please note that you cannot use Video Server E on the new model DVRs that use Video Viewer. The Video Viewer will work on older DVR that use Video Server E, and it does not matter about the model number. The only problem with Video Viewer is the DVR account holder not being an admin level. You will see options faded out. When it comes to firmware then the only reason one is told to use blah blah version only is that it may be for a model so that the model name comes up on power on. Such as CPCam has different firmware so that they say CPCam on power on. Eclipse cctv has theirs with Nubix with power on ect. I do not know if you can install the A series firmware in to the older DVRs. Would there be some rom features that have to be updated, or would you have to put A series chips in to it as well? I do not know, but that would not surprise me if this was so. I do not think a new firmware is going to completely reprogram an older DVR. I would love to try it just for giggles! If you have an older DVR, and you want to experiment, and resolve me of all issues then I will be more than glad to get a firmware to you. Just do not do a hardware reset what ever you do! A bad firmware will be stuck, and the DVR becomes a boat anchor! If that happens then donate your DVR to my graveyard! Thank you everyone for helping out! It is greatly appreciated! Now I wish I could get on AVTech's payroll!!! LOL!

I am going ask that you post the settings for FTP. Not that I can help, but perhaps I can find a common denominator as I ask around others to see how they have theirs working. What do you think? I can PM you if you need your information not to be placed on a public forum.

This is not my expertise. It can be done, and I have seen it. There are some good links if you go back to the older posts. Mike has one embedded in to his website! http://www.mgmcommunications.net/products.html

There are covert wireless network hidden cameras. Would that be an option? http://scorpiontheater.com/Documents/Scorpion_Wireless_Hidden_Network_Camera_V1.0.pdf

I have never played that much with steve's ap. It worked locally the first time I used it. It worked remotely the first time I used it. I would wonder if you have Lan networking issues, or portforward issues?

Your description was to brief. What troubles are you having? What is your level of networking experience? Perhaps this might help? http://scorpiontheater.com/videonetworkingwithavtech.aspx

Newb looking for some advice on an 8 camera system.
scorpion replied to cemccall's topic in System Design
I caught the work around for the URL. I have never bought, installed, or serviced that product. I was hoping that someone who has could give you the info you need. Now that it is a work week perhaps more will respond to this post. Scratch that. Today is a holiday, and we might have to wait another day for a responce. -
I saw the other post, and I did not respond as I do not know about Security Spy. I appeared to be a DVR software that is loaded to your computer, and then you hook up analog cameras to it, and the MAC becomes a DVR. If Security Spy can connect to AVTech DVR, and retrieve video then I would have an interest in keeping tabs of your notes! http://scorpiontheater.com/javaapp.aspx I would have to get a copy of Security Spy in order to figure it out.

You maybe better off hiring someone to come out and set up your system. There is too much to learn, and there are the details that can make, or break your system. DVRs Analog cameras that connect to the DVR NVR Network Video Recorder Same as a DVR, but IP camera attach to NVRs Hybrids Where you attach analog cameras, and IP cameras. There is a proper procedure to establish which is better for you, and there are too many to list. Is security of the essence? Is budget of the essence? What is the threat level? (residence verses a bank, or a diamond store). Night vision Distance from camera for viewing (long throw lense verses wide angle) Plastic lenses verses glass lenses. Cheap compression, or security is of the essence compression? Short runs for cameras rg59, or super long runs using cat 5? Do you buy cheap and suffer with lack of tech support, or do you pay the extra, and pick up a phone everytime there is chaos? _________________________________________________________ Remote viewing You can use a DVR for remote viewing as well as IP cameras. You can also hook analog cameras to video servers that put the camera on to the internet like an IP camera. IP camera Cheap, or expensive. Regular video, or mega pixel IP cameras? Bandwith limitations Storage limitations budget limitations On, and on, and on!!!

Newb looking for some advice on an 8 camera system.
scorpion replied to cemccall's topic in System Design
I am not familiar with the link that you posted so I will leave that to others. If you are building a store from scratch, and you are getting a loan for the video system then spend what you can afford. If you are buying one, and doing an decor upgrade to be incompiance then you are on a tight budget. When you install your cameras then use the most expensive ones that you can afford for the front door, and the back door, and the register. If you want to have other video shots then use these to cut your budget a little: http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-554_mini_camera.html If you want to put cameras in the storage area, or office, but you want them to be covert then use these http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-CPIR_hidden_camera.html If you can buy vari focal cameras. They will cost you more up front, but it will save you money down the road. Vari focal means that you can change the view of the camera. You can go to super wide angle to a zoom setting. This is a great way to solve a future problem that you do not anticipate without having to go and buy a camera everytime you have a problem. I would put some kind of camera on the drop box area. You will want to make sure they are putting cash in to an evelope before they drop them in the safe. Use the cameras for more than just theft protection. You can verify that your employees are taking food temps without just initialing the check sheet. You can use the camera via remote view to make sure you do not have too many on staff. You might have 6 on staff for one customer, or you may have 1 employee for a line out the door! You can put a camera on your freezer temp guage, and you can watch it from remote view from home. Make sure you put a camera outside where they drop your food shipments. The vendors may drop, and break, or refridgerated food may sit out in the sun for more than it should dropping the temp to close to the threshold for storage standards. I recommend audio, but there are many sticky issues doing audio, and you are better off not doing audio. It is great to have a back up to the video if a thief covers their face. It is great to have in an office so that a lady cannot accuse you of sexual harassment ect. You may have a manager, and an employee dispute, and you can actually follow the heated exchange to see what each was saying, and what each was meaning to say as they come to you to "back them up". If you are going to buy/build more stores then make sure the DVR that you buy has a CMS software. This will allow you to watch all of your stores at one time from a remote location. What do you think? -
Need help on a snooker/pool hall setup

http://eclipsecctv.com/16Channel_Security_DVRs.html http://eclipsecctv.com/Color_Surveillance_Cameras.html http://eclipsecctv.com/Connectors_and_cabling.html http://eclipsecctv.com/Power_Supplies_Batteries.html For a snooker hall I would use an expensive camera at the front door, and the back door, and I would use these for the tables, darts, and seating areas http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-554_mini_camera.html These are inexpensive. This will allow you to balance your budget. I love this style of cameras http://avssys.net/?s=product&sub=camera&cat=outdoor&p=vnd49ir These are vari focal. This will allow you to set the camera so that you can watch a row of pool tables, or you can set it up close to watch a coin op device. There are some that go from 2.8mm (super wide) to 12mm. Use this kind of wire http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-WIREbLACK_siamese_cable.html Here is how to install the connectors on the wire. http://scorpiontheater.com/shoothouse.aspx Scroll down through the pictures, and you can see how to cut the wire, and how to attach the BNC twist on connector, and how to put on a power pigtail. Here are some notes that you can take to learn: http://scorpiontheater.com/troubleshooting.aspx What do you think?

I beg, I borrow, and I steal. What allows my site to "operate" is that I do not pay for the hosting of the website. The issues that I have is the amount of space where I can store documents such as the manuals, and other PDFs, the video servers, and the Video viewers ect. I am about as maxed out as can be. I find it ironic (actually embarrasing) is that the sight is titled Home Theater, and yet I have more CCTV stuff, and a library of AVTech stuff. I have pulled manuals such as the foreign language ones from every site I could Google. Sometimes I find them by accident while researching something else. I admit to "pilfering". What is ironic is lately I have found "my" manuals on other sites. What is funny is that there is a CMS manual that I posted only for "research", or nostalgic purposes. This product never came to market, and then it was abandoned. Another CMS has been produced, and I do see a lot of the "genetics" from the older manual, and the new one performs with Video Server E, the newer DVRs, and it works with the H264 models! There is a website that "pilfered" from my site, and they posted the dead CMS manual. LOL! I fell out of my chair on that one laughing! I have since found my words quoted word for word on websites, and I have seen where they were converted to word documents. I have kept quite about it as I am as guilty as I accuse them! I would at least ask for permission to repost from an author to my website, or reword a paragraph from another source. I only wonder if there are any liabilities for me when I see someone copying my word for word. If there is no liability then what is the harm? My whole purpose was to "gather" all of the AVTech info in to one usuable place for the masses. You would not know the anguish I have gone through trying to find foreign language manuals. My business itself does not support the website for the masses as I do not do the volume in sales verses the volume of time downloading to a computer, and reloading to a document section of the website, and then building, and editing webpages. I have plenty of "abandoned" pages that have the "This webpage is under construction". I have never been able to come up with the time to finish the 4 channel DVR parts list. I have a ton of documents on all of the parts. I could even tell you what parts to change if the hard drive does not communicate to the DVR, or if the DVR does not communicate to the LAN/WAN. Here is where the problem lays. I will not CHARGE to download a manual. These are not my manuals. I would rather keep a low profile with AVTech. So far it appears that I have not done anything that has given them concern. Perhaps I have "lighten" there techsupport load, and they "secretly" support my efforts. I have communicated with them, and I know they are aware of my efforts, but that does not make my site Legitimate. I do not think AVTech would like it if I charged to down load manuals, and servers, and firmware. There was a round of issues with firmware, and with some of the DVRs that tanked due to wrong firmwares. I do not have the time to answer all of the email request that I get in regards to tech support requests. I really do answer all of them, and I have had the most trouble with the firmwares. Not a problem with the firmware themselves, but with the people who contact me. I never hear from the computer experts who can handle firmware updates, or changes, I never here from other resellers, or vendors (or at least only on the first call). I get multiples of emails from the same person over, and over, and over. I do not mind helping I just do not know how to hire someone to take over my "job" at scorpion (OK I admit it! I just sit in a office and I go to the forum all day)! I would get fired at any other job!! LOL! If I hired someone to only deal with the tech support request from the website then I need to find an ROI that would satisfy everyone. I am not going to hire a minimum wage person to do this. I want to find someone that can handle everything from how to network, to FTP, to cell phone setups. I would really hate to put on the website "DONATIONS ACCEPTED"! I would not like to beg! OK. At least not yet! Believe it or not I almost shut the whole website down last Sept. I was debating about renewing the URL. Turns out it did not expire in 08, and it expires in 09. The site has a one year reprieve for me to figure out an ROI. I do not know if I want google ads on the site or not. I may have to bow to the pressure, and do so. The day I do that will be a sad day for me. (My wife will be trying to figure in sequence how she is going to spend that money! LOL)! My wife wants me to hire someone so "she can have her husband back who she lost to the internet"! LOL! That has been a pain for me. I have wanted to travel to every cell phone provider in town and find out what cellphones work with the AVTEch DVRs, and what plans a person would need in order for it to work. I do not have enough customers with that request, and I have waited to see if anyone posted to the forum with good results. I have not done squat! I am ashamed that I cannot answer those that are in need. I have a customer who has a Blackberry Storm that they cannot get to work with an AVC 760A. What to do, what to do? I am thinking down the road of the people who play games on cellphones. It appears from those forums that they have found work arounds for JAVA issues ect. When I find time, I will sit down, and read those forums, and see what I can come up with. I follow the trends of questions from the posters at the forum, and from my website, and I go after the biggest problem, and I try to find the resolution, and get the information to the website as fast as time will allow me. Thank you to all of the AVTech vendors who have helped me. Thank you to all of the forum members who have allowed me to "copy, and paste", and thank you to those who respond with the "you solved my problem"! I really love knowing that someone ran in to a brickwall, and we could get them going again. Perhaps someday I will be authorized to down load from AVTech's FTP site. I wonder what I could post if I had true access!!!!! HMMM!! I would probably crash their server trying to download everything on the first day!! LOL!! Again, Thank you everyone!
