CCTV Wiring System for a building
scorpion replied to jaaan44's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Soundy hit that one on the head!! I know it is redundant to say, but I would say to have each with it's own color of cat 5. Network, PABX, Surveillance ect. If you have multiple colors in a wall plate then it is easier to install, troubleshoot, upgrade ect. At a minimum having PABX color, and network color, and cctv color makes a big difference if you do not feel like buying cases of every color to have each network cat 5 color coded. I hate playing around when every cat 5 is blue for all systems! Yikes! -
For those that need multiple cameras through a USB then this may be of interest. http://www.swannsecurity.com/s/products/view/?product=497

I like how these will controll X10. I know X10 is passe nowadays, but I still use it here, and there.

That was an awesome post! I love all of these tools, and Gadgets that they are coming up with nowadays! It sure beats putting RC contolled servos on to a volume control of a stereo like we did in the "old" days!

Ooops! Sorry. I assumed (and you know what they say) that you used these devices. The board that is on top is a CPU microcontroller made by these people. http://www.rabbit.com/products/rcm3700/ http://www.rabbit.com/ http://www.rabbit.com/products/CoreModules/index.shtml There are developement kits, and debuggers http://www.rabbit.com/products/kits/ I thought you did integration work, and that you would have one. Again sorry, and never mind!

Do you by chance have the Rabbit Debugger ?

Yes. I do not know if one of the bridge rectifiers is leaking, and if the Electrolytic would flatten it out, or if there is a cap that is supposed to do that, and the cap is bad. I thought by shoving a E cap on there that it would give you a clean picture, and then from there deciding if it is the rectification, or the filtering that is bad. I want to say a cap is bad because of the "ripple" effect on the screen. I notice that only the top part of the screen appears to do so. This is where I was thinking that it is a bad rectifier because when it travels in one direction through the bridge it is clean, and no ripple, but when it travels the other way it creates the ripple. The one side of the bridge being bad may allow some of the AC cycle to "slip" through. I would think that a good filter would clean it up some. The wave on the TV is so bad that it appears to be a failure with both the rectification, and the filtering. If the cap cleans it up then it would save you from having to rip out the bridge rectifier. Lick n stick, and you are done! Also you can hit the bridge with a can of freeze spray. Perhaps it only "crashes" as the device heats up. This may explain why it works when you first plug it in then after a time it goes in to failure. As the bridge warms up it then "crashes". The SMT's are a pain in the neck, but 3 feet lower!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surface-mount_technology

I am wondering if you can take an electrolytic cap, and put it across the power supply out to see if that would make a difference?

Slow connection to the forum

With what? A hammer? -
That was my first guess when I saw the video. I then thought that he could rule that out by attaching another camera, and having good video. Could it be a bad circuit in the monitor, and only this camera "triggers" the monitor in to it's failure mode?
-
I have seen this happen before. In my case the affected channel had video, but it looked more white like a bad contrast. The DVR channel was affected by a camera going out.
-
I will place my bet on a bad cap in the circuit. Time to break out the freeze spray, and hot air gun. Question: How do you keep from rolling over your cat 5's??

I kicked my computer to the curb, and bought another one for no reason? -
Before you tie the grounds of two separate power supplys together, then I would say only have one transformer feed power to both power supplys. Or I would use an Isolation transformer. Perhaps a computer power supply may be useful? Here is a link to the AVTech power supply http://www.weclonline.com/tchi/productdetail.asp?id=50122822

Need Help Viewing My CpCam over WAN using a Linksys Router
scorpion replied to vikeher's topic in Computers/Networking
I am under the impression that he is using his WAN IP address from the same location where the DVR is located, and he has a half duplex internet connection. If you have a duplex internet connection then you can use your WAN address to view your DVR locally. -
This will not be compatable with PTZ control. I would not recommend doing any firmware changes. I would be afraid that it would lock up, and become unusable. I do believe that you may have to buy another device in order to control PTZ. http://www.networksecurity.ro/pdf/sisteme/avc732s.pdf

I have never set up email or FTPs I have seen where the DVR FTP to a wireless laptop that was connected to the local lan. It would place an icon on to the desktop of the lap top. There were 9 cameras in the bar, and with all of the motion activation it would place a large number of icons on the screen. All you needed to do was to click on the icon and the viewer included with the Video Server E would play the short video. Most of the customers who want this feature, are IT technically savy, and they do the setup themselves. Unless there are portforward issues then I do not know what to tell you.

To connect to it remotely do you use: Video Server S Video Server E or Video Viewer ?? In other words, what AP came on the disk with the Server?
