How to get in with big corporations? e.i. Burger King,Hotel
scorpion replied to robzee67's topic in General Access Control Discussion
The majority of the fast food joints in our area are "local" franchisees. You have to meet with the local supervisor of multiple stores, on a regular basis to get your name known. We have tried in vein to get the local fast foods to do business with us. There was a shooting at a fast food burger "joint", and all chaos hit the fan. The opening manager was shot in the face. Believe it or not she survived the shooting, and is doing well. Parents pulled their under age employees from the stores, and the single "mom"s quit, and the burger joint had to find a way to give reassurance. I get the call from the local supervisor, and he is ready to pull the trigger for CCTV. I told him I will find the old proposal, and have him sign it. He said when can you install? I gave him a date, and he said how many stores he wanted done. A famous franchise "italian" restaurant hired us for "giggles" to get a system in so that they can see a section of parking that is close to a door. They were happy with the system. There was a full robbery involved where customers were floored on command, then the restaurant, and the customers were robbed. This happened far away from us, but it put the local stores on alert to be proactive, rather then reactive. Our restaurant recommended us to the other area stores. It was nice doing business with the "big guy" from headquarters, but I do not like the timing of the incident. Sometimes I do "ambulance chasing". If I hear about a "fire in the hole" incident, then I will take a 4 channel DVR, and some cams, and let them "borrow" it for a time. I win some, and I lose some. (Note: Fire in the hole means to throw a drink back inside of the drive through window, and yell, and then drive off). Just keep shaking hands, and it will come back to you. Do not forget to explain other things that the CCTV system can do for them. The "headquarter", or home office can watch the front counter area to see they have over scheduled, or under scheduled. They can see if they have a large line, or they can see if they have too many employees. With remote view they can do a tour of their stores without wasting gas. They can time the customers from the time they enter the que system to the time the tray is placed in front of them. Most restaurants want to see a 3 minute turn around time, or less during peak times. Drive thru should be about a 30 second time frame from the time they hit the second window till the time that they get the food. The first window is the register window. Get to know what their secret shop criteria is, and try to incorporate that in to the sales pitch. If you go to the fast foods to eat then you might know the lingo a little better then those that do not eat there. You can cam some of the walkin guages for remote viewing. They may be interested in a CMS for multi store viewing. Get to know the store, and what the areas are called. For example BK calls the assembly table the "board". You have the Whopper Board, and you have the Chicken Board. They have levels to indicate how much food to make in advance. Find out what the "no food made ahead of time" level is, and what the peak "hustle, hustle, hustle" level is. Now when you talk to the headquarters you will be way ahead of the other companies. What do you think? -
AVC 773 how to change in/out to PAL video format???

I would do it the way you are describing.

if you are on a budget then give it a try, and let us know how it worked for you. If security is of the essence then perhaps you might want something like this. People do not like to go over speed bumps. This is a narrow "speed bump", and people will straddle over it to keep the wheels from being bumped. This is how the plate is in line with the camera. http://www.speedbumpcam.com/pics.htm http://www.speedbumpcam.com/index2.htm

Which DVR do I need for this setup?
scorpion replied to Sachinb's topic in General Digital Discussion
Crivine's idea is great. When you go to buy one just tell them you are hooking up an Xbox, and they will know what you are talking about. Or you could use this system. It puts the internet on to your power line where your modem / router is, and you pull the internet off of the power line where your DVR is located. Note: If they are on different branches of you electrical system then you might have problems if the wires in your walls travel a far distance to get back to the breaker box. Most homes it should work ok. http://www.netgear.com/Products/PowerlineNetworking/PowerlineEthernetAdapters/HDXB101.aspx -
Video over 240v mains????????
scorpion replied to ronbo's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
I do not have anything for 240 Volt mains. I do have products that use the USA 110 volt mains. This can be an AM/FM radio, air purifier, ect with covert cams inside. This is great for LE takedowns where you have a short amount of time to install surveillance. -

Video over 240v mains????????
scorpion replied to ronbo's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
We would need more info on what products they are using. I can only speak for USA style setups, but you can do a search engine to see what comes up for your area. Depending on what this company has going it could be an IP camera that is wired to a plug in device that provides the internet over power line. There are two devices. You will have a start point, and an end point, or several end points. The start point is connected to your modem, or router, and the end point is connected to your computer, game system, or cctv devices. You can use an IP camera, or a DVR that has internet capability. The IP camera, or the DVR plugs in to the end point device with an ethernet cable. Technically you can inject the internet in to the whole power grid, and each house can get the internet from the powerline using powerline adapters. www.corinex.com http://www.corinex.com/press-releases/empresa-electrica-quito-chooses-corinex-broadband-over-powerline-technology-to-bring-triple-play-to-700-000-homes.html BPL Access http://www.corinex.com/medium-low-voltage-bpl-solutions.html Multi Dwelling Unit Networking http://www.corinex.com/multi-dwelling-unit-networking.html Access Neworking http://www.corinex.com/index.php?page=shop.browse&category_id=3&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=87 Technology Briefs http://www.corinex.com/brief.html FAQS http://www.corinex.com/faq/index.html ____________________________________________________________ Ethernet over telephone wiring http://www.corinex.com/product/38.html Ethernet over Coax http://www.corinex.com/product/947.html _____________________________________________________________ Home Plug Powerline Alliance http://www.homeplug.org/home OK! problem in connecting 160 GB HDD with avc760za DVR need help

What format is the hard drive formatted to? -
Sorry for the late post. I was not paying attention to the model number from Swann. This is manufactured from AVTech and it is called the AVC 760. If you connect up to the laptop directly then you need a cross over cable. Pins 1, and 2 at one connector become pins 3, and 6 at the other end, and vice versa. Cross overs are easy to make on your own, or easy to buy at a computer store. Hook it up to your router, and use this method: http://scorpiontheater.com/Documents/AVTech_Guide_Networking_AVC7XX_Linksys_Info_2A_Line2.pdf If you are not familiar with your router then go here: http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm Use the gadspot IP camera as the DVR selection as it is similiar. Through the panel default password is menu, and then you press the enter button 4 times (o,o,o,o). Through Video Server E then it is admin, admin. Put the DVR in DHCP, and see what the router "gives you for the IP address", and write it down. Go to start on your computer, and select run, and type in cmd, When the screen comes up then type ipconfig. Write down all of this info. You will need to call your IP provider, and ask the tech support what you dns numbers are, and put this number into the dns selection of your network menu on your DVR. _____________________________________________________________ In responce to your question I did not know if you were talking about problems on a local lan, or if you were talking about remote viewing. If you are having remote viewing problems, but the local viewing is fine, then perhaps your IP address has changed on it's own, and you may need this service, or one similiar to it. http://www.dyndns.com/ How else can I help?

I have never set any FTPs as customers want budget, or they are allready IP knowledgable, and they do it themselves. I am not going to be much help with this post. As for Gmail I found some of this, and that, and kept a page for it. Do you see anything usable from this info, or should I delete this page? http://scorpiontheater.com/gmailsmtp.aspx Thomas posted here: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=14817 http://lifehacker.com/software/email-apps/how-to-use-gmail-as-your-smtp-server-111166.php

Cannot see Video throught trendnet TE 1820 HUB. (Resolved)
scorpion posted a topic in Computers/Networking
Using Video Server E they used the search mode, and they can find the DVR's address that was asigned to it DHCP mode, and they can see the MAC address. There is a viewing window called Detail Info. It shows all of the information that is in the DVR for Server IP address Mac gateway subnet DNS The information is what is in the DVR, but this info is "grayed" out rather than bold black. When logging in to the Video Server E to bring up video they get a log in error. Anyone know what they may be running in to that prevents them from "connecting" to the DVR? Thanks -

I went to the persons house, and I found that it was an AVC760A. I set them up with Video Server, and deleted Video Server E, and everything worked fine. -
What effects will there be for CarMax? Does the Parent company of CC still own CarMax?

Blame WalMart's Television Pricing Schedule! They killed a lot of "mom n pop" TV retailers as well. Not much margin left in selling TVs. Nowadays with all of the options, and technology associated with TV you will find no "trained" employees to help you through the selection process.

AVC761: Tuning Motion Detection for Movement not Brightness
scorpion replied to todd2's topic in Digital Video Recorders
LS (Level of sensitivity) This is the sensitivity of comparing two different images. The lower the number the higher sensitivity for motion detection. Default is 7. SS (Spacial Sensitivity) The Sensitivity towards the size of the triggered object on the screen (the number of motion detection grids). The smaller the value the higher the sensitivity for motion detection. The highest sensitivity is 00. Default is 03. (Once in object is detected more than 3 grids then the system will trigger). TS (Time of sensitivity) The sensitivity regarding how long the object gets triggered. The smaller the value, the higher motion detection sesitivity will be. The highest sesitivity setting is 00. Default is 02 RE (Reference) The value of RE is a reference for detection. The default value is 10, which means the DVR will compare 10 continuous images at one time according to the sensitivity of LS, SS, TS simultaneously. The bigger the value, the higher sesitivity for motion detection. -
This is for the AVC 761A. It has directions on the Video Viewer. You can see if there is anything there that you can use. http://scorpiontheater.com/Documents/AVTech_AVC760AS_Nubix4ST_manual_V0.95.pdf

I just wanted to double check. You DVR came with Video Viewer, and not Video Server E? Do you have a manual for your DVR where you can get directions on how to use Video Viewer?

Thank you very much! Everytime I put it on I feel like I am "decorating" a cake! Maybe I should get a squeeze bag, and put floral rosettes on it too! Maybe spell out "get well soon"! LOL! -

She was frying food. She was interupted, and had to go, and take care of one of the kids. She took the pan with the oil off of the burner, and set it to the side on another burner. When she came back flames were all the way up to the stove top vent. She was standing there in disbelief. The first thought was to grab the lid to the pans, but they were in the dishwasher, and it was running, and cleaning a load. The fire extinguisher was out of the immeadiate reach, and the fire was out of control. She made a "command decision" to grab the pan, and take 4 steps, and toss the pan outside. She first told the children to get outside of the house, and then she came back in, and grabbed the pan, and carried it out the door. She came back inside, and found the smoke detector, and reset it. She then went around, and opened all of the doors, and window to let the smell of smoke out. After everything settled down she came to the realization that she burned herself. She gave me a call to see where I was. I was about half way home from an hour's drive where I was installing cameras for an Italian restaurant. It turns out she had finished using the other burner, on a high heat, and she sat the frying pan with oil on to very hot burner thinking that it was a burner that was off. I asked her over the phone "is it red like a sunburn"? She said yes with a little black. That did not sound so bad. Her voice is what gave a way that she was "calling for the calvary". She called her sister, and her father who could get there faster then I could. I finally arrived, and she is chain smoking cigarettes, and pacing back, and forth. She said that she did not want to go to the hospital! I told her let's go anyways. She started cracking jokes that dinner went from fried food to a Bar B Que! I knew she was going to be ok after that wise crack! At the hospital is where her wound started to look really bad. As time went by it got worse, and worse. On the ride to the hospital I asked her what does the pain feel like. She turned to me, and gave the "your are dumb" look, and she gave me a common statement that people use to describe pain, and she says "it feels like fire"! I cracked up, and said no. I want to be able to describe to the doctor what it feels like. She could not describe it the way she wanted. I took her clues, and I said does it feel like when your arm falls asleep. She say yes! Just like that, but a thousand times worse! Her nerves ending were "asleep" but they woke up two days later "screaming". She said that it was very painful! She has been "beating" herself up about the whole thing. She is playing "monday quarterback" to a sunday game trying to think of all of the things she could have done to put the fire out. She did not think about grabbing another frying pan, and setting it on top of the one that was on fire to try and put the fire out. I had not thought of that. That was a good one! I sent some of pictures to friends, and relatives, and they forwarded it on to others. She was cracking up about all of the attention. She said "what? Am I becoming an internet sensation all of a sudden"? I told her I was going to make a video, and post it to YouTube. The look that she gave me made me think better of that idea! The hardest part of all is just cleaning it everyday, and rebandageing it back up. The skin is really sensitive right now. I wish I could have seen a picture of my face the first time we took the bandage off on the third day, and seen all of those huge "water" blisters! Yikes! -
Help With My install - Screen Capture Added
scorpion replied to stu007's topic in General Digital Discussion
Are you using a BNC to RCA adapter to connect the camera to the cable? If yes, then replace that with another one to see if that clears it up. If no, then you have a bad cable. Bend the wire at both end where the wire connects to the bnc connector. See if your video pops in, and out as you wiggle the wire back, and forth. -
Microphone Recommendations for AVC761

I stand corrected. Florida, among many states are two party states. There have been some attorneys who have taken their client out of Florida, and to a One party state, and recorded phone calls using this "loop hole". This is why I posted the link: http://www.rcfp.org/taping/ If you click on the link to the left titled State by State it will list all 50 states, and you can click on your state to get the info that you need.
