    Made the local news...

That was me in the video 32 minutes ago. I confess! I could not resist the twinkie! It was calling my name! Soup Cirk almost got free advertising. I did not know the covert gear was Hi Def!! Glad to see you getting good press coverage! I wonder how much that kind of exposure costs if you paid it as adverting time? Are there any one inch by one inch mini cams in the one meg yet?

DVR w/ web access in a NEMA box?

CachecreekCCTV is the man when it come to outside DVRs in enclosures! You may not be able to PM him, so I took the liberty of doing so on your behalf, and I sent him the link to your post. Hopefully he can steer you in the right direction. Just stand by until he checks his email to get this message.

    AVtech DVR with FTP capabilities

Only you can answer those questions. There are better DVRs that are 4 channel. You can buy a 4 channel DVR that costs $1,500.00. There are cheaper DVRs then the AVTech, but oh boy. You may want to find something else. I sell AVTech as it is simple, and inexpensive. It is not because it is the best DVR on the market. I will say it is the best DVR for the price. Yes! Tech support is worth it. I get 4000 hits a month from search engines looking for AVTech help because of these companies that fail to provide the tech support that they are supposed to. What will you do when you have an error that is outside of the computer specialty area? Did you buy it from a place that only provides a 3 month warranty even though the manufacture provides a one year warranty? Can you phone someone? Can you email someone? It appears that you are having a difficult time getting answers for a simple question. Imagine if you had a serious question? I have taken an AVTech DVR, and I slammed it down on the carpeted floor, and then I plugged it back in, and wired it up with cameras, and it still worked. I do not recommend this, but it survived! That is good enough for me. I have the manuals in various languages therefore I can work with the melting pot of society here in Florida. I have followed all of the problems that have arrived on this forum even though I may not have had the answer. Once the answer was figured out then it went in to my "book" of notes. Find a DVR that you like that is in your budget, and then find a dealer who has a passion for that DVR. Most dealers out there only sell what is available from their distibutor that gives them the best price break for a better profit selling it retail. They may promote that DVR, but that may not mean it is the best even if they say it is. Take a DVR out of it's operational area that it was designed for, and then it becomes a piece of junk. In the right environment, and keeping it in the area that it was designed to do, then even the cheapest piece of junk can work wonders! Perhaps you may be better buying local to you where you can go in to a showroom, and cross compare different DVRs. You might pay a little more compared to the internet, but you are going to get better results then buying blind on the internet? Even better! You have someone who can take your phone call, and answer your questions. I have people coming in to my shop with "broken" DVRs, and even I have never even heard of these brands. Some I can fix, and some just become a door stop, and some people just do not want to spend any money on it, and they would rather get an AVTech when they see the tech support that we provide. My dealer somtimes shake their head at the knowledge that we have on this brand of DVR. When I find the weird, and off the wall problem then I keep them abreast of the problem so that they can pass it to other dealers who buy from them. 1. Buy local to you. 2. Test, and compare just like you would with stereo equipment. 3. Find a knowledgable dealer. 4. Look for a strong tech support system with that source. 5. Call them, and email them to test the responce before you buy. There is a cheap internet EBAY dealer that seems to always pop up when people want to bad mouth where they bought a product, and now he wont even take their calls. That is a shame! Buyer Beware!

    Av to VGA converter Problems

Planetariums love those. Can you imagine turning on all of those amps, projectors, ect, ect by hand? Yikes! I assumed you had a regular monitor as you said that you had a source button. I assumed that this gave you composite video, component video, and other options for video input.

    Av to VGA converter Problems

What kind of LG monitor? Can it be controlled by a remote control? If so can you get a "smart" remote, and teach it a macro, or a sequence of commands? Turn on monitor, select correct video source. For a bigger project you could use something like this: http://www.xantech.com/Controls/ControllersSwitches/ControllersSwitchers/MAC1/ Manual PDF http://www.xantech.com/files/manuals/30_MAC1.pdf What do you think?

Camera suddenly goes to video loss

Is there somekind of bnc to rca adapter involved where the wire hooks up to the camera? If yes replace that adapter. If no, then OH boy! You got problems. If you have a battery powered monitor, then you could test it at the camera to see if the video stays up, and then you may have to replace that coax. Is is copper shielded coax, or aluminum shielded coax?
  8. First you will have to decide is security of the essence, or is budget of the essence. What you are trying to do cannot be done on an entry level budget. 2 miles. Think of a CB radio. Thats the kind of transmitter you are going to need to get the camera to talk 2 miles away. You would be better off putting the webserver where the flag pole is. Do you have an office building there where the flag pole is. From your house you could watch the camera over the internet. Do you have an internet connection at the flag pole site, or are you willing to get an internet connection? I guess running the wires two miles is out of the question! LOL!
  9. Yes, the server can go in to your house, and the camera can go on your flag pole. Is the flag pole two miles from your house? How will you get the wire inside of the flag pole? I do not think you want to change batteries on a day to day basis. Perhaps solar powered is the way to go? Why are you mounting the camera so high? If you point it down will you only see the bald spot of the crook's head? How far will this camera see in complete darkness? Are you using day/night cameras?

    AVtech DVR with FTP capabilities

Calling AVtech in Taiwan is like calling Detroit, and trying to ask about cars. It is much easier to go to a local dealer, and ask your question. There are many places that you can buy this DVR. On the internet there are those who buy in bulk, and then they sell them at an inexpensive price. The trade off is that there is no tech support. This is how my website came to be. You can buy through myself, or others on this forum. It would be better to pay a little more, and have the tech support to go with the DVR. You can also Google CPD 502, as that is the same DVR by another model name. If you are budget oriented then you can buy an 80 GB hard drive. I would not recommend that, and I would recommend a 250GB hard drive. If you want to keep video footage on the DVR for a while, then I would recommend a 500GB hard drive. The 500 is more than the 80 GB, and the 250 would be in the middle. Now you can match the hard drive to your usage, or your budget. What do you think?

Suggestion for mini indoor flush mount PTZ

This is an inexpensive one that I like: http://eclipsecctv.com/SP300E_MINI_PTZ_CAMERA.html For size reference it is about the size of your average size hand. Finger tip to wrist, and thumb to last finger with the hand being flat, and the fingers closed together. About 6 inches tall, and about 3.8 inches wide http://eclipsecctv.com/specs/ECL-SP300.pdf
  12. Did you ever test one? $3000 each. Hmmmm. That is not going to work with my level of clients. About the time they are affordable to the average Joe then I will have to compete with costco for the same flir camera probably.

    Email problem with AVC760

The next step would be a can of freeze spray, and the hot air gun to see what it does. After that it is the heavy mallet pounding to see what it does after that! Is it still under warranty? Can you send it back for a replacement?
  14. Nice rack! I have used the Am DJ tripods to put one camera (analog) up at heigth for site surveys using an LCD monitor.

What kind of camera is it? What voltage is the camera? Did you measure the voltage at the camera with it powered on? What was the voltage?

    Email problem with AVC760

I am not really sure. It could be that it's head is just a little "stuffy", and the reset will clear it up. I will assume that you have everything set up as you are triggering the other cameras. It could be the one millionth one off the factory line, and that is the one with an issue. It is possible that the chip responcible may be creating the error as it is not multiplexing correctly. Hopefully the reset will fix it, other then that I have no clues. http://scorpiontheater.com/reset.aspx

What size hard drive do you care for?
  21. If you came to this post from a search engine then here is some more info: There are complaints that Rain X will smear a windshield. This is true, and the same for your cameras. It is due to a lack of proper cleaning of the glass surface prior to the application of the Rain X. The other issue is the application of the Rain X. It has to be buffed all the way through. Think of auto paint, and Turtle Wax. If it is not buffed all the way through then it can have a "smear" look to it. Motorcyclist use it on their helmets. There used to be a complaint that the shields would "yellow". That would be a valid complaint in the old days, but the modern poycarbonates are very stable. This may be in issue with your camera lens, / housing, camera cover ect. Clean your cameras before you apply the Rain X. Apply it in a small out of the way area of your lens / lens cover, for a test. When you appy it wait for it to haze then buff with a micro fiber towel. Rain X is denatured alcohol, and silicone. Rain Clear is Rain X. The name Rain X name was sold to the Shell Oil Company, but they did not sell the patent rights to it. They sell it under the Rain Clear Name. Rain X was invented by Howard Ohlhausen. http://rainclear.com/ I recommend the Glass Scrub product for windshields also. http://www.rainx.com/

    One Continuous Recording

How many files do you want? Are you a computer tinkerer? In the back of the manual there are commands for using RS232, and you can create a program that cycles the recording. Just be advised to others reading this post that the DVR will not be recording during the recycle, and you may have an event that does not get recorded. You could also take two timers, and plug them in to each other. You can set one to go off at PM, and the other to come on at the same time. You can cycle it yourself when you first get up. That should give you two files a day. What about setting it to alarm, and using a timer that triggers the cameras to give you multi files? You will have to solder to the connector that came with the DVR (or buy one at a computer store). You can trigger a particular camera, or all 4 cameras. I would not recommend the Comet 4 if you are using the internet to view it. It is only a simplex machine, and I would rather you get a used Nubix 4BC (AVC 760), and it is multiplexed. Do you need a manual? I am impressed that you have a device that is still working!!! How old is it? 4 years old?

    Multi Cell Phone CCTV

Anyone have more info on this research project? I am looking for updates. http://scorpiontheater.com/cellcctv.aspx Software that turns groups of ordinary camera cellphones into a "smart" surveillance network has been developed by Swiss researchers. The team says it will release the software for programmers and users to experiment with.

    Hi From New Zealand

How did you know that was all Santa brought me? I went outside Christmas morning, and I looked around, and I did not see my Lamborgini that I asked Santa for! Rats!
