You did not say what DVR you have, and maybe you can glean some info from one, or a combination of these manuals. AVTech DVR network instruction manual: http://scorpiontheater.com/Documents/AVTech_Guide_Networking_AVC7XX_Linksys_Info_2A_Line2.pdf or http://scorpiontheater.com/Documents/AVTech_Guide_Network_Setup.pdf or http://scorpiontheater.com/Documents/AVTech_Guide_Digimerge_Various_Routers_Brands_configuration_manual_v1.1[1].pdf _____________________________________________________________ TP Link router http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/TP-Link/TL-WR541G/TL-WR541Gindex.htm Click on Gadspot IP camera (This is the closesest to an AVTech DVR). The above link came from here: http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm Scroll down to TP Link to see your model number. Will this be enough to get you pointed in the right direction?

Surveillance video grows despite little sign it helps

Sorry it does not work that way. You can read her mind, but you still will not understand her! With mind reading she will still be one step ahead of you. Lord knows how they do it! LOL! -

Someone else looking at my cameras??
scorpion replied to lovelife's topic in General Digital Discussion
I would have to agree with SW. I would be more concerned if you were young, and an extremely attractive female. I would be concerned about some male friend getting your IP address, and your password, and then watching you on interior cameras if you walk around nude. What is your security threat level? How much are you worth in cash, or quick sell? Do you hold a position such as an extreme high level executive for a bank, or related "cash" situation, (it could be research, and development, or pre patent issues as well). I would say that you are safe, but yes with the right motivation (and not just cash such as revenge) anything is possible. Years ago when growing up who would have thought that I would flip open my communicator, and speak to a distant person, give them my GPS location, and then take a picture where I am, and then send that photo to someone else, and then map/google some other place, and see a photo of that location? Speaking of that where is my Dick Tracy watch, and my Get Smart shoe phone? -

Whats the rule of thumb with Charging
scorpion replied to kidsusuki's topic in General Digital Discussion
Are you getting all of the bids? You may be to cheap. Are you losing all of the bids? You maybe specing the wrong equipment, or your bid is to high. Are you about 75%? Then I would say you are just right? Go for the most up front, and then let them "bargain" you down. I bid the highest that I can get away with without losing the job, and then towards the end of the install, if they have been well behaved clients then sometimes I provide a "gift". Each install would dictate that gift. Perhaps they could use an extra camera, or there is some electronics thing unrelated to the CCTV install that you can "tweak, repair, or tidy up the wiring ect". Getting people to call you is the hard part, getting them to except you bid is the easy part. You need more CCTV info? http://scorpiontheater.com/cctvmag.aspx -

My DVR only works in LAN HELP PLEASE!!
scorpion replied to waqz786's topic in Digital Video Recorders
This is not your DVR, but the AVTech networking manual should guide you in the right direction. http://scorpiontheater.com/Documents/AVTech_Guide_Networking_AVC7XX_Linksys_Info_2A_Line2.pdf -
Your observation about the drives killing your brick may be right, or at least it is a thought. Due to the procedure that you used to get your DVR then you probably got it below what most vendors can buy it for to resell at retail so then you are ahead of the game, and you can "afford" to lose the warranty aspect. Due to your background in electronics then I support you in your "factory modifications". I only throw in the "scare the devil out of you" for those who have no background, or experience with electronics that just try "anything", and then ZAP! OH! OH! It probably would not hurt to add another fan to the mix now that you have a larger power supply to help in powering the drives, and the extra cooling fans. I would hate to see the chips get over heated. Did you have to modifiy the power tip? What brick did you use? If you have a model number that would be great, and a link for the specs, and where you bought it. I would like to add that to my "list" of replacement parts for others who may need the info.

Remember that the DVR draws 42 watts. You should have one rated 90 to 120 watts. A proper replacement will be needed if the DVR is under warranty. Using a different power supply will void the warranty. Dell power supplys have been used on the DVRs. I do not know whether they had to cut off the power tip, or not. 5 amp should work, but you are on your own with using it.

SEE? I told you I was poking a stick in the dark! I wish I really good help. If you call then immeaditly ask for a supervisor (If you say support level two, then maybe that will get the entry level person off the phone before they run the rant of "unplug device", and "press reset", "Stand on your head, and rub belly" ect. Keep us posted, as I am curious too.

We always demand some kind of line filtration. A good UPS with line filtration will keep a lot of the nails out of the coffin!

Go to maps.google and bring up your address. Take the link then post it here, and then we can take a look. Do the satellite view then click on links then cut, and paste the email / IM link. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=800+s+harbor+city+blvd+melbourne+fl&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=32.610437,56.25&ie=UTF8&t=h&ll=28.097705,-80.6127&spn=0.001107,0.001717&z=19 http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=1900+Aurora+Rd,+Melbourne,+FL%E2%80%8E&sll=28.136218,-80.651808&sspn=0,359.999142&ie=UTF8&ll=28.136287,-80.651968&spn=0.00105,0.001717&t=h&z=19&iwloc=A -
Lag screws or bolts for outdoor camera mounts
scorpion replied to cctv_seeker's topic in System Design
Thank you for posting all of this information! I believe this will help out the next person after they read this post. I think you are going to save a lot of people a lot of money, or a lot of heartache. Maybe they should send you 10% on what they save by taking your examples, and protecting themselves. Again, thanks for the heads up. -
Lag screws or bolts for outdoor camera mounts
scorpion replied to cctv_seeker's topic in System Design
Do not have then come back!!!!! There is something very wrong in their approach! I was reading too many red flags between your lines, but simple hand tools is a must for any installer. They should have a parts bin with drywall screws concrete screws, lag bolts, and various plastic anchors ect. They should have a parts bin with BNC to RCA adapters, RCA to BNC adapters, Female to Female BNC adapters, power pigtails, spools of connection wire (jumpers ect), caulk, new drill bits, low voltage trim rings, blank wall plate with a hole for the wires to come out of, 9/16 staples, drywall screws, concrete screws, butt splices, electrical tape, plastic anchors, and zip ties. I never make drywall mistakes (Ha! Ha! I hope you believe that one)! I carry drywall compound, tape, and tools to spread it. It is more that people change things duing an install, and I want to leave the job as I found it. There is something very wrong about this company. If they did a proper site survey, and you were the cause to delay the installation then it is very fair for them to charge you that fee. The installation is the easy part. Tweaking, and setting everything when the equipment is operational requires an experienced CCTV guy. Get rid of the ones you have. I could see where they send out "attic rats", and then the CCTV master shows up on site as the last wire is being plugged in, and that is OK, but these guys do not install CCTV, and they may not have the insight to make a proper correction. I find things all the time that look good on paper, but then when you look at the site errrr maybe it would be better if........ For a site survey I would mount a battery operated monitor to a camera and simulate where the cameras are to be mounted to assure the home owner that where they thought they wanted the cameras are where they are truely going to want them once they see the video. This corrects a lot of mistakes before you actually get to the installation point. I am really sorry to hear about these guys. I cannot give them a bad rap as they are not CCTV installers. If they were CCTV installers with this behaviour then I would be embarressed myself even though I am not the installer. Hire some new guy, and do not pay them a dime. Whip out the contract. They get paid for what they complete. The did not complete, and they are fired. I may give the guy that showed up $50.00, but the company needs to reevaluate what they qualify themselves to install. -
If you have worked with electronics then you will not need a schematic as the power supply is a basic power supply. I have a feeling that there is a simple explanation, and that if you were on site you would have the DVR running in 5 seconds. The other person I am assuming does not have troubleshooting experience, and this may be a confusing to this person. Worse case scenerio: Check this chip for output: U32 3.3 volts. If shorted to ground then replace diode 6. Pin 3 is the output. http://scorpiontheater.com/Documents/AVTech760_S817B33AMC_CWWT2G_PowerReg.pdf If you do not have power then it gets tricky.
