    GPRS/3G problem

I do not set up cell phones for viewing therefore I have no answers for you. It sounds like you do not have java loaded on the cellphone, but that is only a guess. If you are using port 80 then that will create trouble. You will need to take it off of port 80. Also do not use port 21 either. I do not have enough customers who do this to give me the experience with the various issues concerning cell phone users. I wish I could be of more help.
  2. Yes, good guess. I was scrappin bottom, and I was hoping that would be a clue.

    AVTECH AVD717D problem

Does your DVR have the separate 19 volt power cord? See if the light comes on on the transformer. It also may be the extension cord that goes to the wall, and to the power supply. Sometimes they have to be checked that they are plugged in, and may need to be pushed in a little deeper. Push the power button? (I know he did, but I had to say it). The next step involves a multimeter. (Some DVRs die because of a wall switch gets turned off, and the wall socket is dead until the wall switch is turned back on). You will need to verify wall outlet power, power pack voltage, and power right as it connects to the PC board. The rest requires knowledge of electronics. Do you have some bad diodes? Are you putting the proper voltage out ot the regulators? If it is completely dead as you say then it has to be in the main power "chain", and we just need to fing the bad link.
  4. When you cannot see the video do you have a small x in the top left hand of the screen?
  5. It sounds like the DVR's port number is blocked by the Bellsouth ADSL. Are you using port 80? If you are using port 80, then perhaps you can go in to the modem/router's virtual server and make the changes? Is this a Westell Netopia? http://www.dslreports.com/faq/bellsouth
  6. I do not recognize line 2 model numbers, but the 0075 is an AVTech viewer. Can you put the website url using * for . *com. After I get the url for the site then I will have you go back in and reedit the post to remove the url. You need to use the Video Viewer. It is much better then Video Server E as it is "new, and improved".
  7. Did video serve E come with your DVR, or did you just "choose" it, and down load it from the internet? The password for Anytime, Anywhere page is the same for your server program. I am wondering if you have a newer machine, and you need to use Video viewer rather than server E.
  8. Go to my site on the reset page, and choose the AVTech DVR, and it will show you screen shots how to do it. Connect the two prongs with a screw driver with the device off. Turn it on, and hold it for 20 seconds, and release. This will factory default it. menu 0000 (just hit the enter button 4 times) Internet admin admin If you can get in to the menu then you can do a factory reset there rather than opening the lid, and shorting two prongs with a screw driver. Menu Advance System Reset Default (resets everything to factory default). IN System is where you will find password (DVR panel password).

    camera with blank image

I second the thought that the camera is not getting enough "energy". Is this the camera that is the farthest away from the power supply?
  10. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Dave? You took the words right out of my mouth! That was the speech I was going to give! Darn it! LOL! http://scorpiontheater.com/reset.aspx You do not need to do a reset. http://scorpiontheater.com/videonetworkingwithavtech.aspx Scroll down to the Lan cable section..... Pins 1 and 2 of the ethernet cable need to go to pins 3 and 6. Go to this site: http://www.lanshack.com/make-cat5E.aspx Wire the cable for 568A on one side, and 568B on the other side. The green and the orange trade places. This is a cross over cable. What do you think?

    IOIP

Is the DVR set for motion detection? Can a camera be set to catch people without causing a lot of false alarms? Can you take a digital annunciator and create what you need? The DVR motion detection can trigger the annunciator that has a prerecorded "speech" that you have recorded in to the device. You could also use a PIR detector to trigger the board. You could use a pressure pad (doormat) to trigger the board. What do you think?

    100m Video Sender

You may be transmitting too "loud". You actually may cause interference for other people devices. You need to have a professional install something of that caliper. I would hate to see two pickup up trucks full of ham radio operators who are more than willing to do some "shotgun" antenna "recalibration"!! Yikes!

    Alarm panel integration

I got caught by my dad blowing capacitors like fire crackers! I used to get them out of the garbage at the local TV shop down the road. I took an extension cord, and I would put one end way out in the yard, and put a capacitor in the plug, and then I would go back to the house, and then my friends, and I would watch as we plugged in the cord, and then KAPOW! My dad was mad because I had debris all over the yard, and I was destroying the grass! We used to charge them, and then walk up to people, and touch the wires on their arms, and give them a jolt! From there we took the coil from a broken strobe light, and I put it inside of a calculator (they were bigger in the late 70s) and I had two small screws on the front side. I could then shock people unexpectedly. I learned the hard way not to mess with the biggest kid in school. He did not take it as a joke, and I learned 180 different ways to get home from school without taking the same path each day!
  14. I had a customer who set up their own DVR, and networking. He used the 192.168.1.254 for the DVR dns. No. I do not know why. The linksys router now has an internal dns of 192.168.1.254 The router no longer goes on the internet. I have tried using the reset button on the back, and the reset to factory default in the menu. Question: How do I get rid of the dns of 192.168.1.254? I called linksys, and they put me through the routine of pulling the router power, the modem power, and stand on your head, and hold your breath routine. Tech support then told me that I have to get a user name, and a password from the ISP (ATT). I think they are going to set me up with PPPOE. No thanks! I told the customer to take the router back from where they bought it from, and get another one. This will get the customer back on the internet, and with the right DNS they can then review the DVR remotely. I am still wanting to know how that 192.168.1.254 got in to the router. Did the router pull it from the DVR while the DVR is in static mode?? I would still like to know if there is a way to change that DNS. Things that make you go hmmmm???

Now you hear from the "pro", and you hear it from hands on experience! My first oops was at my father's game room in 1981. He had just bought 10 brand new games one of them being Donkey Kong. The crowds were so huge that a group of people would gather around a game making it difficult for everyone to watch, and the player would feel "crowded". I came up with the idea of my own to take a spare monitor, and put it in to a box, and mount it on top of the new game. It was on a friday afternoon when I finished. I plugged it in, and Kaboom! Lesson number 1. Becareful with what you do. 2. Learn what you are trying to do. 3 Test before a deadline 4 Learn how to deflect "evil stares" from your clientle. 5 Learn how to smooth talk a freaked out business owner with a big 2nd mortgage on his house, and really needing a product to produce income. 6 Explain to your dad who trusts you whole heartedly that it will not happen again. 7 Learn how to regain the trust of a business owner when it comes to "electronics tinkering. 8 Learn how to regain the trust of your dad when you are supposed to be "the" electronics genius, and you just made a miniture atomic bomb smoke come out of a electronic device. 9 Learn that there is a device called an isolation transformer. 10 Learn that you cannot have two monitors 120 volt input lines connected in parallel. 11 Learn that you are not the "sh*t" that you think you are. 12 How to take the ribbing from friends, and family members in regards to blowing up a video game. 13 Learn not to feel bad about making mistakes, and using it as a "tool" to learn from. I do miss those "good old days". I was working on (at the time) cutting edge technology. High speed computer controlled light displays on pinballs, and voice/speech boards such as the one from Gor Gar, or the Black Knight Pinball machine. I was working on a cutting edge product called a Z80 processor, and the 8080 processor. I used to do "scientific studies" on the equipment. I would take a resistor, and a wire, and I would connect one end to the VCC of the board, and tap around on the various ICs, and parts to see what happened. I made megastroid, and microstroid. If I grounded a spot on Asteroids then the rocks visually became really huge!!! It would freak people out to have the game turn on then the rocks would come out, and there would be no way to avoid the rocks!! The rocks were still the same size electronically, but it was just a visual change on the monitor. Micro stroid is the ship being so small that it was just a small dot on the screen. I do not miss the good old days where I would have to take my dad's business cards, and then shove them in to the relay contacts on the old mechanical pinball machines to keep them operational. Here is another event that raised the hair on the back of my neck. I was working on a pinball machine that had the glass taken off, and the play field was raised in the up position so that you could see the underside of the playfield where all of the solenoids, and wires are. I was pressing the left flipper button, and I was spraying WD-40 to loosen a "sticky" flipper. Can you guess what happened? The electronics techs do, and they are laughing there butts off about it right now. I will tell you what happened. The WD-40 caught fire from the spark from the relay contacts on solenoid to the flipper, and I jumped out of my shoes because I was not expecting shooting flames! LOL! I have broken things in my day, and I have solved some really tricky technical issues. I wish you guys could have seen my electronics work bench when I was a very young teenager!! What a mess it was!

    100m Video Sender

What is the wattage of the sender, and what frequency is it on? I will have to convert 100 m to feet. I think it comes to 328 feet. This device is only good up to 150 feet in normal circumstances. I am willing to bet this is a 100 milliwatt transmitter. This is about the same as child's walkie talkie. You will need more wattage. You will probably need 1000 milliwatts get the signal through. Are you on 2.4 Ghz, or 5.8 Ghz? Remember these devices are only line of site! In other words the antennas HAVE to see each other. If they do not see each other than you have get them closer together to keep the same energy level up. Is it possible that you can move the receiver closer in the same room to pick up the signal, and then run the "video out" back to the recording device? Do you have a cordless phone that is on the same freq as the wireless camera system? Wireless routers in the USA are on 2.4Ghz which is the same as some cordless phones, which is the same as the 2.4Ghz wireless cameras! You also have to worry about your neighbors equipment too! Do not forget that some baby monitors transmit on 2.4Ghz also!. _____________________________________________________________ L BAND (1240MHz - 1300MHz) 950MHz CAMERAS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L_band S BAND (2 - 4 GHz) 2.4GHz CAMERAS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S_band C BAND (4 - 8 GHz) 5.8GHz CAMERAS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C_band Ch1 = 2.413 GHz, Ch2 = 2.432 GHz, CH3 = 2.451 GHz, CH4 = 2.470 GHz Wi Spy 2.4 ANALYZER! Alarm panel integration

Yes that is correct. On the connector you can pin 3, and 4 and 5 and 6 if you want a four camera recording. I would actually prefer to see an "isolation board" between the DVR, and the alarm panel. If you are not an electronics tinkerer then do not worry about it, but is something to think about. Set the DVR settings to high. ------------[3--[4--[5--[6 _________________ Does this figure make sense?

    Alarm panel integration

We would suggest that you contact someone local to you who is familiar with your alarm box, and is familiar with basic electronics, and better yet one who is qualified to work on this equipment. low = 0 volts high = equals the voltage output of your panel. It is assumed that your panel outputs 12 volts DC. The question is: How does your panel work. If it triggers an event will it create a short, or will it output 12 volts? Based on this answer is how you would set up the DVR to respond to your alarm panel. If you were to have the alarm trigger a "siren", and / or a strobe then you will be using a 12 volt output from the alarm panel. When there is no alarm then there is no voltage going to the strobe, and the siren. You could tie this in to the DVR, and set the DVR to the HIGH setting. Do you want to trigger just one camera, or several? _____________________________________________________________ http://scorpiontheater.com/io.aspx Note error pin 3 - 5 should read pin 3 - 6

Surveillance video grows despite little sign it helps

I believe the people's perception has changed about cctv on city streets. After the different terrorist situations you can see on the news what the terrorist look like, how they arrived at a place, where they met, and where they dispersed to. It can give time of arrival, and departure, and event times. Amazing footage that comes out of these events.
  23. Do you have Google Streets? We were one of the early areas to be on it. It saved my butt big time during the time we were paying up to, and over $4.00 a gallon! I would go to maps.google and when you zoomed in on an address to see the best possible route, and to find the address then you can select street view. It shows the front side of the house. Now I know what house I am looking for. I now know if it is a single story, or a two story house. I now know if there are obstucting trees, bushes, ect to block camera views. I can also pan around 360 degrees to see the neighbors, or the surrounding area to make my judements on equipment selection.

    power cord markings

hey Soundy! How are you doing! Here is a tip Robert46: When you cut off the plug in side, cut it back about 6 inches or so. If you mess up trying to strip the insulation off then you still have some room to spare. Take a mulimeter, and set it for resistance testing, or continuity. Stick the red probe right in to the inside of the plug. The inside of the plug is the positive, and the outside is the ground. With the black probe press it against one of the wires, it you get a measurement of 0 then you have the right wire. Look at the markings on the wire (or the lack there of). This is how you can truely identify which pair is the positive wire. Note: do not measure for continuity, or resistance with the power side plug in. I know I did not need to say that, but .....
