    CCTV for Dummies !!!

Hey! You found my Steve Austin! Would you be kind enough to send it back to me? Thanks!
  3. I use these also. It works pretty good. They are entry level products, and work well. For professional installations I would recommend something higher grade, but then price follows. Distribution Amplifier Model: 15-1172
  4. Thanks to rrockoff! I have posted the manual, remote software manual, and the remote software to my webpage! http://scorpiontheater.com/secupointer.aspx

Video Server E - how do I time search?

It sounds like you know the paper with the magnifying glass icon. Page 43 of your manual. Press system config, and open up the DVR option. If you look about halfway you should see SEARCH LIST _____________________________________________________________ Here you put in the HDD Number Hit the down arrow for options. LIST TYPE: Hit the down arrow for options. Then press the button marked DOWNLOAD HDD LIST. This will give you another window with all of the date time groups to select from. Press download after you make your selection. How does that sound? Do you have a manual?

Commercial Tech for ADT?? Then you must have seen it all in your years!! Welcome to the threads! See you on the forum!
  8. Did the viewer that I send you work?
  9. Thanks for the info. Here is a possible viewer that might work for this DVR. The Orbix looks like it was made by the same manufacture. It may be a different model, or an earlier model. Let me know if this viewer works for your secupointer DVR. http://scorpiontheater.com/secupointer.aspx
  10. I just have some dumb questions. How is it that you have two viewers for this DVR. Are you just using random software that you have found? Are you connecting directly from the computer to the DVR with a cat 5 cable? Are you connecting the computer to the DVR using a router? _____________________________________________________________ If you are using a direct cable, then you need one called a crossover cable which are available at most electronic, or computer stores. What you will need to do is set the computer to a static IP. If you want one then use 192.168.0.10 Set the DVR to 192.168.0.5 Using the remote software you will use the 192.168.0.5 as the IP address. This should get you in. If you are going through a router, then you are fine so far. You will have to use an IP address that is acceptable to your router. would 192.168.0.5 work? Use your remote software, and enter in the 192.168.0.5 as the IP address. This should work for you.
  11. Can you make a zip of this viewer, and Email it to me? The DVR is web based, and you can use a viewer software. The software is easy to operate, and it works pretty good. I used the one that I have access to, but they only view on a local lan. I do not know if they have the router set up to wan view it. Thanks!

    AVTech and VideoInsight

Software for the AVTech is called Video Server E. I have never tried Video Insight Software, and can not provide information as to it's compatablility with AVtech DVRs. Do you have the video server E? Here are options for Mac users http://scorpiontheater.com/javaapp.aspx

We would need to know how you are going to use these products to give you better info. I will assume that you are charging customers for a "service", and I would assume that the customer would like to have answers to their questions, and you have to prove, or disprove those questions. Based on this I would say you should go for the most that you can spend verses what your clients pay for your services. I am not a PC DVR expert, and I will defer to those who are. Yes, I would recommend the fastest processor you can afford. There are many factors to setting up a PC DVR. Stick with Intel Mother Board, and Chip Sets. First knowing your operational needs will dictate the kind of card that would be selected, then based on this card then a mother board would be selected based on the DVR card specs. Just throwing any card in to any PC is an invitation to disaster. I would get the best card one can afford to get the best quality video. Perhaps one day you will capture video of a "goldmine" that will earn you alot of money, or at least give you that "15 minutes" of fame, and all of the TV shows will want to interview you, and show the now infamous video clip. I would agree that a lot of IR video footage is grainy, but that tells me that it is poorly designed, or the budget was so low that one had to make due with what they had. I will assume that you are setting up in residential houses, and business. I do not know if you do outdoor environments, or not. You will now have to act like a hollywood movie director! You have seen enough TV shows doing the "studio shot", or you have seen enough "behind the scenes" on a movie being promoted ect. They alway have lights everywhere, and they are very bright. Have you noticed? You always see these panels with sheer material, and they are using them to difuse the lighting to make it softer. You also see them use panels to reflect light towards the actor/actress. This is how you would set up a dark environment video shot. How would a paranormal investigator set up your video?? I am talking from a point of view of setting up cameras in a dark environment to catch a thief, and you will have to modify this to your needs as you understand it. I set up cameras in a lot of dark bars, gentlemen's club, night clubs ect. I try to use what is allready there for lighting such as rope lighting, neon beer signs, and black lights. With this very low level of lighting I can get some real good shots. Here is the camera that I love! http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-CPIR_hidden_camera.html or http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-CPIRD_hidden_camera.html The cameras in these products give a really impressive video believe it or not! _____________________________________________________________ Now if you were to set up somekind of camera that needs IR you will want to know the distances of the walls involved. Why do you ask? If the wall is close, and you have a powerful IR beam then you will have a big spot on the wall in the video because the IR is to strong. Faces will appear washed out. If the wall is too far, and the IR is to weak then the video will be just dark grainy video except upclose to where the IR illumintor is located. Why is it grainy? The camera is screaming for light, and the electronics are at their minumum work environment, and you are actually seeing the individual pixals reacting to the light, (or the lack there of), and that is the grainy appearance that you see. Does your environment require total lights out, or a black out? I would use several IR illuminators. I would point one at "center stage", and I might point one up at the ceiling to bounce off, and provide diffused down lighting. I would do side lighting as well. Now you have to watch out for windows that might reflect the IR light back to your camera. If you find yourself in variable environments perhaps have someone modify a powerful LED IR camera so that you can control the IR intensity. This could be a variable knob that controls the power to the IR LEDs, or you could turn on, and off sections of the IR array to control intensity. For covert work for PIs (cheating spouses) I can not setup lights everywhere I feel like it. I have to maintain how the place looked before I arrived, and I cannot leave any trace that I was there. Now this can become difficult real quick. If you can find light sources that are on even though they may be low level, then you can use this to your advantage. For example I am trying to catch video in a room. The hall light is always on, but perhaps someone does not turn on a room light. I can move back away from the area that is illuminated from the doorway of the hall light. Now I can point my camera in the direction of the illuminated area. If the "stage" is not illuminated then I have to get creative. I have to use nightlights. I use the nightlights that have the scent from one of those "make your room smell better companies". It would not be to far out of line for someone to add the aroma product, and it just came with a nightlight. IR illuminators can be battery operated for short term operations, and they can be placed anywhere such as on top of a book shelf out of sight, or on floors for uplighting. The design process is easy, but the covert work is a pain! Tell us more about what you do, and what you need.
  14. I do not know about your specific model, but I am guessing that it should come with a remote control. If you can get one, it is def nice to have!

    Satellite internet

What kind of Sat internet do they have? http://www.satellitefamily.com/satellite-internet.asp
  16. Eclipse had a DVR like this for a while called an Orbix I believe. To use the numbers 5 - 8 You will have to hold the button to get a "second" selection. quick press is one, and a hold is 5. See if that will give you the password throught the front panel. The one that I have access to is 4 years old at least, and still running strong!

    How to Question

I do not work with PCs so I would have to defer to those who do. I wonder if you can get a card that allows you to see your computer on a TV. Using this composite out you could then figure out a travel path to all of the TVs. Here is an example. I use the ones that have IR repeaters built in. http://www.radioshack.com/pwr/product-reviews/Home-Entertainment/Accessories/Audio-accessories/Wireless-signal-senders/RadioShack/p/2793270-2-4GHz-Wireless-Audio-Video-Sender-with-IR-Extender.html What kind of modem do you have, and if you have a router, then what kind of router do you have?

    How to Question

To many variables to this question. Basically it boils down to the infrastructure of what is allready installed in the walls, and what you can run. 1. Does the computer have loop in, and loop out connections for the cameras? 2. Are the camera analog, or are they IP? 3. What is the budget to spend on this project? Lets assume this is a smart house with plenty of extra wiring installed in the walls. You can take the video output of the DVR, and you can modulate this in to the cable system. http://www.channelvision.com/files/guides/diagramsLayouts.pdf The draw back nowadays is the High Definition signal is sensitive to stray signals on the cable system, and you may end up crashing the digital box signals, or the high def channels. It can be done, and it just requires more expensive equipment, and the right person to design the circuitry to work the system. Here is a nice alternative where you can use preexisting cables in the walls, and this will allow you to tap in to the coax with two different signals. Affinity Digital Cable Combiner http://www.channelvision.com/products/index/88 http://www.channelvision.com/products/view/427/88 http://beta.channelvision.com/uploads/1215557281_P-0321_MixedSystem.pdf ____________________________________________________________ If you can get a multiplexed video off of your computer then you can get what they call a "TV extender". This is a transmitter that send composite signal to a receiver, and you can watch a DVD, Cable Box, or a DVR on a remote TV. The draw back is that someone in the neighborhood can see this video if they have a receiver as the signal is not scrambled. Where do we go from here?

  22. Here is a message to others, and not Meatfeast. Do not try this with your DVR. There are DVRs that reformat Hard Drives automatically when a "new" Hard Drive is installed in to it, and that will erase your footage that you have stored. As for your problems Meatfeast you are walking in to uncharted territory. I do not know why you are having the issues that your are having. I can ask if you can press button number 2, or 3, or 4 during playback to see if the camera views change. I do not know if this would make a correction or not, but you can try this perhaps. http://scorpiontheater.com/cil.aspx To change the camera image layout during live view: 1) Go to the live view 2) Press "SET/ENTER" - one of the camera images will go green 3) Use the Up/Down/Left/Right buttons to move the green box around to select one of the cameras (or an empty channel) 4) Use the + and - buttons to select a channel number. The channel numbers are in white. 5) Press "SET/ENTER" again. To change the camera image layout during playback: 1) Go into playback mode (just hit Play) 2) Press "SET/ENTER" - one of the camera images will go green 3) Use the Up/Down/Left/Right buttons to move the green box around to select one of the cameras (or an empty channel) 4) Use the + and - buttons to select a channel number .... As you cycle through the channels numbers you will see they switch between white and yellow as you roll over (ie White 1-2-3-4 then Yellow 1-2-3-4 then White 1-2-3-4 etc) When you select a channel number, White means LIVE and Yellow means PLAYBACK. 5) Press "SET/ENTER" again. ie - While you are playing back you want camera image 4 to show a live view of channel 1... Press 'Set' button, use up/down/left/right to highlight image 4, then user + / - to select "WHITE" 01, then press Set. ie If you want to restore your 4ch playback to factory default... 1) - Press 'Set' button, use up/down/left/right to highlight image 1, then user + / - to select "YELLOW" 01, then press Set. Repeat for images 2-4. ___________________________________________________________ Meatfeast, I would suggest that you set up a computer in the UK, and have the DVR send video to that computer so that you can view the video there in the UK. You can then change it to AVI if you need. I would not suggest carrying the hard drive to another machine.

  24. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/10/08/palin_email_hijack_indictment/ http://www.usdoj.gov/opa/documents/indictment.pdf http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4chan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikileaks http://www.ctunnel.com/ http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/09/18/palin_email_investigation/ 1. Defendant DAVID C. KERNELL was a resident of Knoxville, Tennessee. He occasionally used the nicknames "rubico" and "rubico10", among others, on the Internet . 2. Yahoo! was an Electronic Communications Service Provider providing e-mail and other services to the public in the United States and abroad, and its e-mail computers and servers for the yahoo.com domain are located in California. 3. Sarah Palin was Governor of the State of Alaska and the Republican nominee for Vice President of the United States. 4. Governor Palin maintained and used the e-mail account gov.palin@yahoo.com. On or about September 10,2008, the existence of this e-mail account was disclosed to the public by several news sources. 5. On or about September 16, 2008, while residing in Tennessee, defendant Kemell gained unauthorized access to the e-mail account gov.palin@yahoo,com, by resetting the password using Yahoo's password-recovery tool. Specifically, he reset the password to "popcorn" by researching and correctly answering a series of personal security questions. 6. Once defendant Kernell established control over the e-mail account by changing the password, he read the contents and made screenshots of the e-mail directory, e-mail content, and other personal infomiation, The personal information included, and was not limited to, other e-mail addresses of family members, pictures of family members, at least one cell phone number of a family member, the dates of birth of Governor Palin and another family member, and Governor Palin's address book for her Yahoo e-mail account. The screenshots of personal information obtained from the gov.palin@yahoo.com account were posted to a public website on the Internet known as http://www-4CHAN.org. Defendant Kernell posted the reset password, thus providing the means of access to the e-mail account to others. 7. At least one other individual successfully used the reset password to access Governor Palin's e-mail account. 8. After posting the new password to http://www,4CHAN.org, and in contemplation of an investigation by law enforcement authorities, defendant Kernell, removed, altered, concealed and covered up files on his laptop computer.
