I would not change the firmware, and the 1.0.6.6 is the latest for that particular model. If you had the 760A, or the 760AS then there is a newer Server Software, but it may not be compatible with your machine. Why do you need to update the firmware?

I would recommend an all in one box that suits your needs. Nothing wrong with PC based systems, it is only that I prefer stand alone DVRs. -

I would go for budget, and I would go with the 1/3 no DSP. Only my opinion. It appears you are using Geo Vision so go for broke and get the best money can buy, but stick with the 1/3. -
Avtech S782 DVR with Belkin wireless Gaming Adapter

I love the feedback that you are getting from the other forum! http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/87/33639819-belkin-wireless-g-router-belkin-gaming.html I agree with you on one hand that it should work the way that you have set it up. For some reason the gaming adapter is not providing the DVR what it needs. Interesting project. I would like to know what the solution would be myself. If a computer works then the DVR should work. Unless there is a port problem. Perhaps try a different port number on the DVR. From what I read on the other forum you are not "dummy" when it comes to networking, and it appears to have the right numbers installed under the network section of the DVR menu. Things that make you go Hmmm? -
Speaking of ground problems

http://scorpiontheater.com/surge.aspx I am not an electrician, but I wanted to put in my two cents Here in Florida the average DVR, Computer, or Home Theater equipment, and other electrical devices will not survive the electrical impulses whether the power company is changing from one generator to another, or lightning is striking near by (none direct), or you have an electrical device on the same circuit that can be effected by an AC compressor, or other electrical devices. This is noticeable when the lights flicker when some device "kicks" on. I always recommend a surge protector on electrical devices such as Home Theater Products, Security Devices such as DVRs, Computers, and on Televisions. BEWARE! For those of you who may not be aware of them. There are two kinds of surge protectors. "True" surge protectors, and "false" surge protectors. I say "false", but what I am saying it that the surge protector manufacture uses one device called an MOV to do the actual "dampening", and it may have a lower JOULE rating, and they may have another MOV in parallel that does not provide the true protection, but it has a higher JOULE rating so that they can put that number on the box! There are other companies that install MOVs to provide the "dampening", and it will have the true JOULE rating, and that is what you will see as the JOULE rating on the box. Now are you confused?? Just look for the UL 1449 on the box of the surge protector. This may help you from the entry level crap that may not be UL 1449 protected. Then again, what stops a company that is non UL compliant to post this on their box? -
Kaif Halak! Welcome to the forum. Before you do a system reset. Are you looking for the password to get in to the front panel? Just push the ENTER button if you have never installed a password. It is located in the hidden panel on the left side of the DVR. http://scorpiontheater.com/reset.aspx http://scorpiontheater.com/cpcamtechsupport.aspx http://scorpiontheater.com/troubleshooting.aspx Let me know how it works out!

That is an one that I cannot answer. I would say buy a power supply that can handle the cameras that you have. What would that cost? Would it be cheaper having two inexpensive power supplys verses one higher amperage one? While you are at it you could move to a higher channel power supply so that you have more amperage, and you can add on more cameras down the road. I am glad to hear that the mystery is solved before you went and stripped off all of your stucco, and lathe on your house!!! LOL!

NO! NO! NO! You are on your own with those problems!! See ya!! No! Really! How can I help?

Being stucco the chicken wire does not go in to the ground. Here in Florida the stucco stops at a point above ground level. Is this the same for you? It may be that the lathe has come it to a ground point such as being wrapped over a conduit pipe. The problem here is that the chicken wire is at the same ground potential as the rest of your CCTV system. I am now declaring the power supply the problem. Disconnect every camera, but one. Using one of the outside cameras see if you have the bars still. The power supply is leaking AC. It may be that all of the cameras may be taxing the power supply. I say that, but I do not know the type, or the quality of your power supply. Do you have a regulated 12 volt wall wart transformer that can feed one outdoor camera? This will trouble shoot your power supply real quick!

Perhaps if the camera mount is metal, and you have used metal screws. I doubt that as you may have put plastic anchors in to the holes that you drilled.

http://focus.ti.com/lit/an/slla268/slla268.pdf You have me stumped on this one. It may be that the camera wires are running parallel with power wires causing an induction. That would be the only thing that I can think of. Do the camera wires, and some lighting wire come through the same holes? Are those wires running side by side?? You def have some AC leaking in to your system somewhere. I would suspect the power supply, but the inside cameras are fine ruling out the power supply, unless you have multiple power sources?

Help with SWANN MPEG DVR 4 - Master Reset Possible?
scorpion replied to jcommerce's topic in General Digital Discussion
Thank you for mentioning the Video Server E. I usually have to look up the model number to see which DVR one has. In your case the DVR is manufactured by AVTech in Taiwan. I have some helpful tips here: http://scorpiontheater.com/troubleshooting.aspx http://scorpiontheater.com/cpcamtechsupport.aspx Scroll down to the bottom of this webpage, and you will see the hard reset PDF for the AVC 760. Question: Have you tried going in to the front panel, and going in to the menu, and setting it there? Menu Advance Network Network type Press +, or - to make changes. -
What you have are ground loops issues! You have not described your situation so I will try to guess which one you may have. Metal buildings such as warehouses, mechanic garages ect. The cameras are bolted to the building, and then the wires are ran to another building. Because there are two grounding points one being at the camera, and the other being at the DVR or Multiplexor. The solution is to isolate the camera from the building. You will have to be creative. You can use plywood that is painted to look like it belongs, or you can use plastic bolts, and nuts, and some kind of insulator between the mount, and the building such as plastic, or some kind of rubber. _____________________________________________________________ Another ground loop situation: Cameras at one building (of any material) that go through a DVR in one building then the wires go in to another building then connect to a multiplexor (or vice versa from camera to multi plex, then to another building then connected to a DVR). The solution is to purchase ground loop isolators. If the the second building is a small office style building off of a main building such as a night club with a detached small owners office, and there is a management office inside of the main building then you might try running a large ground wire to tie the two buildings in to one grounding point. This is hard to due with most buildings, but there are some cases where you can get lucky. It would depend on where the service point is (power, telephone, and tv cable). This is where the grounding point starts. A second building will have their own grounding point. The difference of potential between those two points is what creates the ground loop issue. _____________________________________________________________ Third situation: You may have a TV that has a bad power supply, or a leaky capacitor that is causing the ground loop issue. This will do this when you are watching cameras, or when you are watching Sat TV, or Cable TV. The bars are always there!
