I am really glad to hear that you got it worked out. I wonder how many people out there on their own have had this problem, and just threw a DVR on the dust pile in a closet somewhere??

weird problem that i cant get my head around
scorpion replied to griffonsystems's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
What you have is a weak ground loop issue. You have two different grounding points. One at the multiplex, and one at the DVR. The tube tv is more forgiving then the LCD. The ground loop is there. You just really have to look at it. There are some LCDs that will look minor, and there are others that just look butchered off the same feed. I tried one of those video splitter / amplifier (composite) hoping that would tame it down. It did not. You will need a ground loop isolator. That is the only way to fix it. You could power both devices of the same power! How long of an extension cord will you need??? what do you think? -
I do not have any advise. I installed a DVR at a company one time, and I had the same issues. Every one in the IT dept could see the remote video. The CEO, and other big wigs could not see remote video. This was off the LAN. On these computers I down loaded the latest Active X, and tried other tweaks, and tricks. I defaulted the setup, and that did not work. Nothing seemed to work. I am not a computer tech, and the guys in the IT dept took a look. They had no resolution either. I figure if they cannot get it going then it was not going to work. The thing was the IT dept had newer computers (nothing great), and everyone else had older computers. The older computers would not view the video. This was off of a Nubix 4 DVR http://eclipsecctv.com/NUBIX4_security_DVR.html The solution was the IT dept had to part with a computer to the CEO. They were not happy about that! Do not get on the wrong side of the IT dept. Everything worked out with them as the CEO is happy then IT is happy. So they were willing to make sacrifices!!! LOL! Anyone with input?

True. Only the identification of the offender is new in the news. I just find it interesting that he is using non login websites, but is brought down by a proxy. He went through all of this trouble to remain "anonymous" and it did not work!!

I thought I had miserable when I have to install during a full downpour! I guess I will appreciate it better now!! You northerners can keep your cold weather up there!! Brrr!! I think it is about 68 degrees! I better go turn on the heater!

I agree with you Lolo Wolf about using IR!! The cheap one use 35mm film which means you have to wait before you can see your snapshots. Digital ones will allow you to see them as soon as you hook them up to a computer. The ones with LCD screens built in will give you instant access to your snapshots! ( I am not shouting, this is a cut and paste) ONE FAILURE OF GAME CAMERAS IS THAT PEOPLE POINT THEM AT AN AREA. WHAT IS WRONG IS THAT THE ANIMAL (OR HUMAN) COMES FROM LEFT "STAGE" AND EXITS RIGHT "STAGE". YOU WILL NOT GET A SHOT BECAUSE OF THE TIMING. YOU MAY GET A PICTURE OF THE TAIL OF THE ANIMAL! POINT THE CAMERA TOWARDS LEFT, OR RIGHT OF THE "STAGE". NOW THE ANIMAL SETS OFF THE "TRIGGER" (MOTION), AND THEN THE CAMERA GETS THE SHOT AS THEY KEEP APPROACHING! HOW IS THAT FOR SIMPLE? THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE FOR NEWBIES. http://scorpiontheater.com/game.aspx The Memo Cam would be perfect for the "Gotcha" shot!

Look for a place that sells equipment, and supplys for the Paint Ball community. Buy the land mines, and place this around your house. It will not stop them, but it will ruin there day after they get splattered. If you can respond fast enough it would also ID them. Game cameras may be an option for the outside.

Stopping recording does not work. Is this with the remote only, or is this on the DVR buttons as well? If it is with the remote only then I do not know what to tell you. You have confirmed that the remote does in fact work, and you have confirmed that the "eyes" on the DVR see the IR commands. I cannot tell you why your remote does not work. This is the first post that I have ever read in regards to this problem so this is very unique. It may be that the remote is the one millionth one of the line, and that is the .0001% failure tolerence object. It may have received a bad command while the chip was being programmed, or perhaps the software in the DVR is corrupt. A firmware will not fix this problem that I am aware of. You may have to test the remote on another DVR to confirm that the Remote is ok. Is there a CCTV showroom near you that you can test it on? If you were having problems shutting off the recording on the DVR panel then that may be that you have to place a password in to it to stop it. It would not hurt to do a hardware reset. Give it a try! I really do not know what to tell you! I am sorry that I cannot be of more help!

No. I agree your way is the proper way to do it! Sometimes one cannot find the stinger in the insulation in custom cut houses, or where 2X4 or other "objects" may block you from visually, (or feeling for it), and that may, or maynot be an option. Poking down does create the problem that you mention, but then again how much does spackle cost verses drilling through a water pipe, or an electrical line, or through an interior door jamb, or being fooled by a plant shelf? What you and I are saying is this: Leave this to the professionals! For the DIY: Measure twice, and drill once! On a real tricky house use more then one methode to verify where you are in an attic verses where you need to be in the house. Look at your air conditioning vents, and fans that may be centered in a room, and look at smoke detectors in the hallways to determine where you should be. We work on a lot of houses that have strange cut walls, and / or add on walls, or we find solid pour concrete interior walls, and the hated cathedral ceiling that gives you no room for personal, and tools. I wish every house was a single story with a perfect square shape!! And again: You are absolutly right, and your way is the only way it should be done, but use alternatives if the consequence will cost you more money.
-
Able 1 that is a good point. I do the same from the attic down in to the room. Before I drill I want to make sure I am not "thrown off" where I think I am drilling, and where I really should be drilling. I had an employee (new) who did not listen to my request to poke down a stinger before he drilled. You guessed it! He was way off because he judged an electrical box to be his target, and he had the wrong electrical box (wall switch), and he drilled down in to a door frame!!! That was embarrasing! He was not to happy paying for a new door frame out of his paycheck! If he had done a stinger he would have had the time to make a correction!

Did I make a good expanation? Did I answer your question to your satisfaction?

If you are using motion detection then try this. Press the stop button then press the menu button. There may be a "timing" issue that you will have to practise to get the hand / eye coordination just right. In other words it may be to busy looking for motion in the cameras that it is ignoring your request for menu. At least give it a try, and lets see what happens. I have to do this manually with the buttons on the DVR sometimes for the above reason. Sometimes I have to do the same with Video Server E (or S). What do you think?

GO TO COLLEGE!! You can always get back in to CCTV! Later in life you cannot go back to college. Yes, you technically can go back to college, but it is much funner in your younger years!! Do you really want to be the "old folgie" in the back row?? With a degree you can be anything you want. In a down turn economy a college degree replaces the high school diploma. In other words there are more workers then there are positions. To weed out the least qualified and to attract the best workers you just raise the bar. Where do you want to be in that line?? With a degree you can be a worker at a great company. With a degree you can be promoted in to management faster, and buy the house/car/bigmantoy that you have always wanted. With a degree you can go in to SR management and get a corner office, desk pool of assistants to do your bidding. With a degree you can be a CEO of a major CCTV / Security company! With a degree you can own your own very large CCTV company! Without a degree you need major cash infusion from a business angel or from a bank, or you will have to build up the business from scratch over a long period of time.
