AVC-760 - guides to setup E-mail, web-server and questions
scorpion replied to KRANKRAN's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Daryl733 You hit that one on the head! I do not know how many budget crap DVRs I have tried! I seem to always go back to AVTech. If someone thinks the AVTech is crap, then you have not really tried some other units! I go back to the AVTech more so out of being familiar with the AVTech then anything else. -

Are you saying the two buildings are wired to the same router? They are both home run back to the same router? or I was thinking that there was a same model router in the second building. ___________________________________________________________ There are two many variables to take a wild guess. Due to the fact that you are getting video on the local PC, then this tells us that you have a working DVR, and that the data wire is working to your router. If the second Computer in the second building is hard wired back to the router then this is very confusing as you are not using the internet to see video. I would blame something on the second computer for not having video. Does it ping the DVR? Question: Is the DVR port 8000? If you are in a corporate environment then you may have to get admin rights to make changes. Your environment may be locked down real tight. The above would not effect local lan, but it is murder for a lot of individuals trying to troubleshoot why they cannot see their home DVR.

That would be a great idea! -
If I am not mistaken I believe this was invented by an Army Helicopter Pilot so that he could make his tests. Didn't they sell them to the goverment for around $100.00 in the begining?

I prefer the glow. It is great for trouble shooting cameras. No glow, no power! If it has to be that covert then put it near neon signage, or create your own red light source. Now it just blends in. You can put the camera near a light source so that when they look around they lose their night vision because of the lighting, and they cannot see the camera because of the bright light. The invisible IR does not travel as far as the visible IR LEDs. You can pull the LEDs out, and replace them if you need, or cut the power to them, and use external IR illuminators.

It is not recommended, but if it is cheap enough, and you are not worried about cost, or warranty then go for it. A little caulking in the holes, and you should be good to go. I have pulled old cheapo domes down that were installed by previous home owners while the new owners "upgrade".

Is there anything in the Java APP that can be used to accomplish what you need?

Hey! I thought you were not going to rat me out! OH! You were talking about the other guy. Ooops. I'll exit stage left now! LOL!

I do not want to be IMPOTANT! This explains why I am always talking to myself! Oh Darn it! The wife's not going to be happy about that!

My professionalism is slipping! I apologize! Is the list of the world headquarters, or the local station down the street? Oooops! I did it again!

I am going to change my name to Scorpion Theater World Headquarters! Or do I use the Americas Division? When I tilt my hat to the left, then I am the Sales Team Division, when I tilt my hat to the right then I am the Site Survey Division, When my hat is straight then I am the CEO, CIO, and Marketing Officer, and when I take my hat off it is cuddle time for the old lady.

Is this a one channel problem, or a multi channel problem? As a quick tech check, discontect the camera from the mount and make sure it is isolated with card board or something, then check the video. If it is clear then it is a ground loop issue. If it is a 60 cycle hum as RickA pointed out then that would be a power supply problem. You will have to switch out the power suppy to check that. It is possible that a camera is injecting the 60 cycle in to the power supply "system", and you may want to disconnect all of the cams except one, and then check the video to see if it is clear. If it is clear then you can assume a camera is the cause, (or a wire), and you can rehook each camera one at a time until you find the source. Do you have a hand held monitor to see if you have clear video at the end of the line opposite of the camera? I do not know if you are using a DVR or what as it might be a DVR problem as well. I have seen issues where the wall plug is at fault causing erractic behavior in DVRs. I should know after swapping out two DVRs until I figured the wall socket was miswired by a bar owner! Hope you find it!

For those of you with law enforcement problems I have a suggestion on a covert camera that would be great, but I do not want to post this suggestion in the "open". Post here then I will PM you with the suggestion. It give a great view of the driver's door. Some law enforcment approach from the passenger's side at first, and you have to prepare for that as well. Those in the biz are probably familiar with it.

Light Tape http://lighttape.com/ Tutorials http://lighttape.com/content_lt_media-04.asp?ContentId=318 Outdoor Installation http://lighttape.com/content_lt_install-05.asp?ContentId=302 Opened the box, and everything checks out. Read the instructions, and it was what I expected. First note that caught my eye. Do not bend light tape around a corner. HHHMMMMMM? OK. Info noted in to brain memory. I have a very long roll of light tape. Just think of it as a giant roll of 1/2 masking tape. I also have a very large roll of the protective "sheath" that the very thin tape goes in to for outdoor installation. Just for giggles I unrolled the sheath and layed it out along the side walk of the building. I am going to install this on monday. It comes with a "bracket" that holds the sheath. The instructions say mount 12" to 18" on center. If you ever have mounted Neon Lighting tubes then you are familiar with the tedious installation. That is a lot of holes that you have to drill. The bracket is small, and you only need a number 10 screw to mount it. In hindsight I would have had the stucco crew keep the surface flat where the lighttape is going to be installed. This is a very rough, and thick Knock Down stucco. Had the surface been flat I could have bought a large roll of double sided stick tape, and used that to mount the sheath to the building. I have a problem before I even get started!! Imagine a roof line. I want to go from the far left to the far right to illuminate the roof line of the building. The connector is about 1 1/2 to 2". If I mount the connector to the edge, and run the light tape to the opposite side then I am going to have a small area that is not illuminated where the connector is. HHMMMmmmmm. If I run the tape so that I have illumination from end to end then I have a connector that is stick off the side of the building floating in the air! Now I have to figure out how I overcome this obstacle. I sent the company an email, and hopefully they will respond on Fri. Another problem that I have is that I can do a 90 degree turn with the tape. What I mean is to terminate the horizontal light tape, and then overlay the the verticle tape, and make some kind of connection for the power to go from one strip to the other. This would have been a solution to the other problem from above. If I had a 90 degree transition what they want is to have every strip individually powered. Each strip is to be powered in parrellal from the power supply wires. They do not suggest wiring from light strip to light strip in series. To do a 90 degree transition on the left, and a 90 degree transision on the right then I would need six connectors. Imagine a single story building, and then a two story building then a one story building. The wall was elevated for larger signage. I will need one connector for the first horizontal line, then one for the first verticle line, then one for the top horizontal line, one for the second vertical line that goes back down, and then the horizontal line again. Yikes!!! What a pain. Neon seems much easier in hindsight!!

Is there an 9 channel dvr that can have multiple ir sensors

Pass me that lobster please! Thank you very much! -
I agree with CCTV Imports! I have my budget customers use 13" TVs for monitors, but know adays they are getting harder, and harder to find. Budget "cctv" monitors are a pain in my neck, but 3 feet lower as they tend to break down a lot, ( or at least the cheap ones that I buy). I gave up on those, and I love watching my customers eyes bug out when I quote them a pro series monitor. Pass the smelling salts please, we have another one down!

Why not replace the PIR, or just contiue with a hard wire connection?
