You are better off selling your system to someone where that would fit their needs, and budget just perfectly, and then you need to start all over, and buy yourself an 8 channel DVR, (or 16). You are going to spend more money trying to pinch this together rather than saving your money, and buying a system that meets your needs perfectly. With your Samsung ssc14web you are only going to be seeing cams 1-4, or you can choose to see cams 5-8. I think you are limiting yourself if you buy a webserver. Perhaps you should buy 8 webservers, (or 4 two channel servers), and hook those up to your cameras via the RJ11 connector. Help with Samsung ssc14web and sscdvr from sams & sod14C

Here is your pin out! RJ 11 PINOUT 1 SPEAKER (+) 2 VIDEO_OUT 3 GND 4 SPEAKER (-) 5 AUDIO_OUT/ALARM_OUT 6 12V DC Back of Camera Clip up, contacts down 123456 You need to attach a bnc, or an rca connector to pin 2, and pin 3 for video, and you need to add 12 volt power to pin 6, and pin 3. We hear your pain. We always try to urge individuals to go to a CCTV professional to have a system put together that matches their budget, and specifications. Now you know how I feel everytime someone I find someone that has an issue that could have been prevented on the front end, rather than having to fix on the back end. I am sorry to hear that you need the 5 - 8 channels to be recorded, and that device will not provide that. For the price though it is great for small mom n pop business that are on a tight budget! Why don't you just buy a second one for the other 4 cams, and put both systems on the internet for remote view? If you need the manual, then you can find it here: http://scorpiontheater.com/samsung.aspx -

Rebco does have a point. The problems with junk cameras come from the market, not from the manufactures. Who is going to invest millions in to land, building, infrastructure, and tooling knowing that they are not going to make a return on the investment? If you make it to crappy then no one will buy it. Can you think of a product that was introduced, and then it fell on it's butt? At the same time you cannot go over the top in quality design, and "bullet proofing" a product, and then expect to sell 50 million units. Yes there are those companies that have tried something, and have had flops. It may have been due to other factors other than the product itself. I think there will always be a market for entry level products, and there will always be the need for top tier products. If a customer is happy with a webcam, and some software, then he has met his needs. None of us will be installing a bunch of webcams in a large city national bank with extreme security needs. I have never been able to figure out why the first product a customer wants we they come in to a show room is a wireless camera? With some education customers, are redirected to other products that suit their needs better. Does this mean that the marketing plans of the cheap wirless cameras are a marketing success? Does this mean customers are happy with cheap at any price? I am happy that I can hand the average joe who makes $20,000, to $25,000 a DVR, and a camera. I hope more buy in to it. There is a guy who has a major warehouse, and he sells scratched, and dented washers, and dryers with full factory warranty! How many washers can you sell? It is not like it is a daily commodity? I want to be like this guy! I want to have a warehouse the size of a city block, and I want to sell scratched, and dented DVRs with full factory warranty!!! This guy is opening more warehouses through out the state!! I see a day where you will see DVRs being sold right next to microwaves. Probably not as it will be in the electronics section rather than the home section, but I think you understand what I am saying. Probably by then a manufacturing company will have bought all of the other companies, and there will only be one factory building all of the DVRs on the shelves at your local wally world, and your better purchase stores. Now, will it be Sony, or Microsoft? If the market is glutted with "hobby cameras" then it is because the customers are demanding them. I remember when photographers were about to go on strike because Canon introduced a SLR camera that had a computer that would make all of the calculations for you. Pro Photogs thought they would be going out of business. Who needs a photographer when the computer can do it for the common man who does not even know what an F stop is!! Today I look at my friends, relatives, and others people's pictures, and yes the image is clear, sharp, great color renditioning, and no pixalization, but the photos just look awful. I see a picture of someone, and there is a telephone pole sticking out of the top of their heads!! I see a small body in a large yard. Why can they not place people in the right spot, or move up on a subject. Why do they put the sun behind them then take a picture of people squinting? How about the CCTV classic where someone take a picture of a person in front of a door, or a window, and all you have is a silouette? Where are the professional photographers now?? I flip open a telephone book, and they are there in print by the droves. I guess the computer did not kill the profession after all. Cheap cameras are not going to kill the CCTV Pro. We will always have a job, and we will alway be there to pick up the DIY pieces when they fall. Lets just hope that a new technology does not come along that puts us in the same category as "in car" elevator operators, phone switch operators, and the group of gas station attendants who pump your gas, collect your money, check your fluid, ect, (unless live in places like New Jersey)! What do you think? -
Where is the link? I would have to agree with you as I have been sent alot of those kind of video links. I always thought "Boy it sure was a good thing that the CCTV installer just happened to point that camera in that direction that had nothing to do with a real installation"! Speaking of You Tube, my favorite video so far is the Swear Jar!! LOL!!

Oldest digital recording found! http://www.itnews.com.au/News/78742,oldest-known-digital-recording-unearthed.aspx The earliest known recordings of computer-generated music have come to light in the form of a patchy rendition of Baa Baa Black Sheep and a shortened version of In the Mood.. The tracks were recorded by the BBC at Manchester University in 1951 capturing the songs from a Ferranti Mark 1 computer, a commercial version of the 60 year-old Baby Machine. Ferranti Mark 1 was the immediate successor to the renowned Baby computer, generally regarded as the forerunner of all modern computers. The recording was unearthed as part of the preparations for Friday's Digital 60 Day to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the birth of the 'Baby' or Small Scale Experimental Machine. The tracks were found in the archives of the Computer Conservation Society, making digital recording an official UK first. Previously the oldest recordings were thought to have been in the US on an IBM mainframe computer at Bell Labs in 1957.

Here is where you can download the network viewer. http://www.norbain.co.uk/go.php?structureID=software&ref=S431EEBF2C3BAB&confirmDownload=1&x=14&y=11 This is for the Digital Sprite II. I do not know if it would work for the DM4 or not. Perhaps someone will come along, and provide a link to a DM4 viewer. Here is where you can download a manual. http://www.dedicatedmicrosus.com/?id=149 Believe me! I am more of an idiot than you are. I just worked on my first DM DSII for the first time recently, so I am only one step ahead of you. This can be easy, or this can be difficult. It will depend on your experience. Are you a computer guru? Do you know where all of your files are? Do you understand all of the sections of your computer? If you said no, and you know nothing about computers, then you may want to find someone to assist you. If you said yes, that you are "computer savy" then you can read the manual, and do some "on the job training". Do you have a router?

If you are looking for something in particular that you need to record then it can get really expensive, and quick. You may need to run the audio through a compressor, and/or and an equalizer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_compressor If you have ever listened to an American football game, and you are listening to the commentary, then you will notice when they stop talking, then you will notice that the people in the stands will sound crystal clear, and the presence of them is heard perfectly. You can hear the cheers, boos, and the finger whistles. When the announcers start talking again, then you will notice that you cannot hear the people in the stands, and they do not interfere with the conversations. They run the crowd microphone through a compressor, and it reacts to the announcers microphone to control the crowd audio level. When you are listening to DJs, or to a radio station, then notice that as one song fades, and the other one ramps up that they are both at the same audio level. Compressors are used to suppress the louder audio to create a "balance" in the two music channels. For law enforcment style of recordings then you will need to use notch filters. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notch_filter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equalization http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parametric_equalizer _____________________________________________________________ A shot gun microphone is a better mic to use to catch a conversation in a particular area. Shot guns will eliminate the unwanted audio from the left, and to the right of your target. This could be road noise, garbage trucks, emergency vehicles, honking horns, ect. A cheap shot gun mic is just a mic in a long tube. A good shotgun mic will actually have to microphones. One that is in a tube to listen at a distance, and a second mic to listen to the ambient sound, and this will go through circuitry where the background noise is electronically reduced. http://www.rcfp.org/taping/ Live listening should be OK. There is nothing wrong with audio. It is what you do with it after you RECORD audio that gets you in to trouble. When security is of the essence the audio is a tool. If a burglar has a mask, then perhaps you can identify him/her with their voice. Do they speak with an accent? Do they have a lisp, or a speech impediment? Yes it is true I could go in to a dept store with a cam corder, and I can reach under a dressing stall with the cam corder, and I will only get a ticket to appear in court, and I probably will not get arrested if there is nothing else in my background. If I have the audio turned on then I can be arrested for a felony! If you have signage for a business, or a residential, then you should be covered. What is the chain of custody for recorded audio? You cannot have a mom n pop sub shop, and then let the employess have access to the audio to play back scenes for their friends, that would be a violation of one privacy. There used to be alot of "rules" against of recording on the outside of a residence with cameras, and mics, Too many police officers have been caught saying things that they as professionals should not be saying. There are a couple of cases that has set precedence. One is out of New Jersey. This officer really put himself in to a stink with his threats to a father to an individual who was to be arrested. The officer did not know that the cameras had mics. The father took the recordings to the police station, and this officer is now looking for a new job. At first the police dept went down to the residence, and ripped out all of the cameras, and they took his DVR also. The judge made the dept give him back everything, and reclassified the recordings to be legal, and to allow them as evidence in the trial. There will be some new laws hitting the books such as how far off a residential property one can record audio, and other such "detail". The stuff that is taking up so much debate are the internet problems that "minor audio issues" seem to be taking a back seat. ___________________________________________________________ This is stuff that should have been taken care of a long time ago, but that have to spend every day debating "lawyer legalease". This is 08, and they are finally getting around to these!! You posted in the wrong section! I almost missed your request! Bring up the viewer on your laptop, and right click on the camera that you are viewing, and select save AVI. This can be done with recorded history as well. You can save the file to your desk top, or you can create a file. Let me know if this works!
