AVTech DVR's, control of keys via RS-232, anyone done this?
scorpion replied to Kiwi's topic in Digital Video Recorders
RATS! I was hoping you came up with some kind of program that even Rory would drool to see! I was wondering if you could do some kind of IR to RS 232 converter, and then learn the IR codes from a hand held remote for the DVR. http://xantech.com/products/controllers_switchers/irs232a.htm You can use an RS 232 to IR converter as well http://xantech.com/products/controllers_switchers/rs232ir.htm RS 232 control over the internet http://xantech.com/products/controllers_switchers/iprs23202.htm Here is a 16 channel controller http://xantech.com/products/controllers_switchers/59010.htm OH well. Maybe someone else will put something together! -

Can you give us a screen shot? -
You are not confused. As you are reading it, and understanding it then you have a firm grasp on "how it is". The reason it is asking you this is you also have other options. Would you like to record by timer? Some people will have nurses come in to take care of a home bound patient. They will only want to record from 9am to 5pm, and not record anyother time. Would you like to record by motion detection? This will spread out the information that you can record to your hard drive allowing you to get more "time" on your system. _____________________________________________________________ You will find these instructions on my webpage http://scorpiontheater.com/cpcamtechsupport.aspx There are instructions on how to diable motion beep, and other tips, and info. HOW TO SET UP MOTION DETECTION WITH THE FOLLOWING DVRs AVC 760, AVC 761, AVC 781, AVC 782, AVC 782A If your motion detection screen is pink then it is not recording. Pink is used for motion masking such as trees, bushes, ect. If your screen is clear, and you can see your camera video then that is the correct setting. select MENU select ADVANCE select DETECTION Move the cursor to the second column marked DET, make sure it says ON for all of the cameras that you have hooked up. Now move the cursor to the third column marked AREA. On cam one press enter. If the page is pink then this is not seeing "motion", if it is clear than it is looking for motion to trigger recording. Here is the hard part to describe. Find where the cursor is blinking (probably around the center of the screen somewhere) using the left arrow move it to the far left of your screen, using the up arrow go all the way to the top of the screen. Press enter (this marks a starting point), move the cursor down to the bottom of the screen, (do not touch any buttons except arrow/directional buttons), when you get to the bottom of the screen use the right arrow, and move the cursor to the right. Here is what you should be seeing. When you pressed enter at the top of the screen the square went from pink to clear, as you pressed the arrow down the whole column became clear. As you used the right arrow the screen slowly became clear as you worked your way to the right. When you get to the right side of the screen you can move your hand in front of a camera and you will see all of the squares "activating" as it follows your movements. Press ENTER to stop the selection process. You are now good to go for motion detection. Press MENU to back out of camera one area, and press the down arrow to get to camera two area. Press ENTER, and repeat steps for each camera. Here is a trick. If you have some outdoor cameras, and you have some bushes, trees, ect, then you can set up motion masking. Now the bushes, and trees will not trigger your cameras. Move the cursor to where you want to start a motion area. Start at the top of this area, press enter, go down as many squares as you need then work your way to the left or right to make a "motion" box. Press enter to stop the selection process. You can now freely move the cursor. Go to your next area that you want motion detection, and make your box, rectangle, or just go wild to get all of the nooks, and cranny around moving objects. Press menu to get out of AREA, press menu to get out of Detection. Go to RECORD go to manual record press enter. It should say YES Press menu to get out of the menu pages. _____________________________________________________________ SMALL BOX: If you have a small clear box before you get started then turn it pink, and then go, and turn the whole screen "clear". Let me know how you want to set it up. Do you have a manual?

FAN NOISE Yes, it is hard to install them in masterbedrooms, or in a home theater with the stock fan. Glad you have your problem resolved. Rather dramatic, but that is the only way. I am glad that you are "electronically" minded! -
Help for a noob! How to connect a box camera to a pc
scorpion replied to peterj's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
I am not really sure what you have. You will not be able to control the camera's auto zoom feature (15-CB25NV ). You will need a different camera if you plan on zooming in, and out. If you are keeping the 15-CB25NV then you will set the zoom lens to where you want to see, and that is the end of that. You can always get back on a ladder, and readjust the camera to a different view. If you buy a camera that zooms in, and out then look for a camera that has Pelco D protocol. In regards to the conroller you need to ask the EBAY owner of that controller the question if it will work with your camera. If they do not know the answer then you need to buy a controller from where you bought the camera as they should be able to give you all of the information that you need to make it work. If they do not have the answers then you really need to reconsider what you need, and where you are going to buy it. There are a lot of pros, and cons to buying on EBAY. This is for those that have electronic experience, and they have the knowledge to bypass storefront CCTV shops so that they can save a large percentage on their cost. If you need to save money then you willl need to take yourself through an education process. One to get the right equipment, and the other is to save you the heartbreak of being sold something that you did not want, or need, or even worse getting "ripped off". How much experience do you have with the Hauppage 150 pvr card for CCTV purposes?? How else can I assist you? -
I can sell that one as well, but I do not have a lot of experience with it. http://eclipsecctv.com/NUBIX8DX_security_DVR.html I just wish AVTech would get on the band wagon with the server, and the software, and create a product that would knock your socks off! What is wrong with a $5000.00 DM 16 ch Sprite II DVR (retail)??
-
Scruit, I think you have been replaced, and you are a "pod" person! LOL!
-
You can view all of the cameras, but during playback you will only have two camera views due to bandwith limitations. If you want to see all 16 cameras over the internet at the same time then perhaps you will want a Dedicated Micros Sprite II DVR. The Flex DVR does not provide 30 FPS out of the box to provide a cheaper option. The R30 ungrade provides the 30FPS across all channels, and this will cost you a little bit more. Yes, I do sell this DVR. Perhaps You would prefer to buy from a local dealer in your neighborhood who can provide you with tech support should something go wrong, or you have a question about the operation of the equipment. I am not trying to weasle out of the purchase, as I would love to be your "preferred" dealer. You can find them cheaper on the internet then what I can sell to you at, but then again they will lack tech support. If tech support is of the essence then perhaps you should look at my website, and see if this meets your standard for help, and support before you buy. When you buy from someone else then call their telephone number. Do they answer? Send them an email. How long does it take them to respond. Do they respond at all? Is that dealer a member of this forum, or do they buy in large bulk, and sell cheap, and sacrifice the tech support team to make up the margin? How do you know that I am trustworthy?? Always trust, but always verify!

Depending on the camera/lighting you will get an awesome picture! It is def one of my favorite DVRs for the price. There are better/more expensive DVRS (DM). I am glad that you are aware of the R30 upgrade. That makes the DVR an awesome device! During playback you can only see two cameras at one time. You can toggle the camera buttons to move your "view" around. I just wanted to make sure you were aware of that. Other then that it gets a two thumbs up rating!

I can hardly wait for the day when we look back one day, and laugh at 5 mega pixal cameras like they are 512 MB computers!! http://scorpiontheater.com/iplab.aspx -
Ironic is it not! We use a digital ccd to give us video, and then we use a digital to analog converter, and then we put this signal on to a cable, and then it gets to a board where we hook it up to an analog to digital converter!!!!!!! http://www.pixim.com/products-and-technology/technology http://www.pixim.com/assets/files/product_and_tech/Pixim_Digital_Pixel_System_Backgrounder.pdf The core invention in the Digital Pixel System technology is the inclusion of an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) within each pixel of the image sensor. The ADC translates the light signal into a digital value at the immediate point of capture, thus minimizing signal degradation and cross-talk in the array and allowing for greater noise reduction methods. Once the data is captured in a digital format, a variety of digital signal processing techniques are used for optimal image reproduction. http://www.gencore.co.kr/korean/more/techwell/ShortFormCatalog_Jan_2003_Rev1.pdf The TW2804 includes four high quality NTSC/ PAL video decoders, which convert analog composite to digital component YCbCr for security application. The TW280X contains four 10-bit A/D and proprietary digital gain/clamp controllers and utilizes proprietary techniques for separating lumin-ance & chrominance to reduce both cross-luminance and crosschrominance artifacts. The high performance dual scalers in each channel offer two differently scaled video outputs with 54MHz ITU-R BT.656 format for security system design. Four built-in motion detectors can also increase the feature of security system. Both Rory, and AK357 are right!!!

New AVC761 Beeps Loudly when Powering On for First Time
scorpion replied to todd2's topic in Digital Video Recorders
NO. I was speaking of powerline surge. If you put surge protectors on each channel (which is recomended) then you are protecting the DVR from transients coming from the cables. Such as lighting striking close by, but not a direct hit, yet you get transients coming down the wire blowing out that channel, or worse the whole DVR. If you get a direct hit then there are no protective devices that can save your DVR. You would have to run cables over head of the building that is grounded to earth to divert a lighting strike away from your cameras. Rather dramatic I would say. How much do lightning rods cost now adays? Power line issues will act on your DVR much sooner than transients from the camera cables. You can hook up a ground wire to your chassis, but you will have to test for ground loop issues. For the cost of a DVR, I would not go through the trouble to ground the chassis if the power line was not protected. In the UK I should say mains instead of powerline. http://currents.apc.com/apc/10/ Products: http://www.apc.com/products/ PC & Workstation UPS: http://www.apc.com/products/category.cfm?id=13 Surge Protection and Power Conditioning: http://www.apc.com/products/category.cfm?id=12 Data Line Protection: http://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=145 -
New AVC761 Beeps Loudly when Powering On for First Time
scorpion replied to todd2's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Nothing really. You will lose recording for a while. In Florida as you know we get a lot of thunderstorms, and the power can pop on, and off, and it is possible that the DVR can lock up. You will not notice it until you go to look at recorded footage, and then you will realize that it has not been recording. What is worse is you NEED that footage, and now you find that it had not recorded the event. This is why we recommend battery back up, and line conditioners. This can happen with brown outs, voltage spikes, or when the power company switches from one generator to another generator. We call Florida Power, and Light Florida Flicker, and Flash! In all fairness this was the way it was in the old days. FPL has got their stuff working pretty sharp I would have to say. -

New AVC761 Beeps Loudly when Powering On for First Time
scorpion replied to todd2's topic in Digital Video Recorders
If you shut off everything in the alert page you will have a silent DVR...... EXCEPT AT START UP. If this is a covert op then you will have to physically disable the sounding device on the PC board, but only if you are electronically skilled. The question that I have is why is this DVR being powered up, and down?? I would recommend a battery back up for short term power outages. These DVRs do not like power up, and power downs very much. -
