Hi All, So I have a 16x3mp camera NVR for our 5000 sqft store. In general we are very happy with it...got it at Costco knowing full well it's quality may require a return at some point...lol. We have caught several thieves on it and even proved a B&E case. Police are always very impressed with the images during day and especially at night. Anyways, my question really relates to remote viewing on our iPhones...which is my only real complaint as the image is like less than 1 FPS. Is this normal for all of these systems or is this the weak point on these NVR's. Is there any brand that performs better for this function? Playback and recording has been awesome with great FPS...as advertised. thanks

Hi all, thanks for reading. I require a security camera system for my retail store. It is about 5000 sq ft. I am considering purchasing an out of the box system (I know you guys probably hate that!) like Costco's Advertx 16 camera IP NVR system. I am wondering if I can get a better home built product with suggestions from the smart people on this forum. What I need... - fairly high def...min 720p - wired or wireless...not a factor (drop ceiling) - stand-alone pvr or PC with software (recommendations?) - will start with 8 cameras (4 domes 4 bullets) with ability to expand. - budget max $4000. That is about all I know at this point. Any recommendations would be awesome! thanks

Hi, I am going to be purchasing a 16 channel IP NVR system...either out of the box from Costco (Lorex, Advertx, Swann or Q-See). All of these brands seem to be on par cost wise...except for Advertx which is about double the price. Is this brand really worth that much more? I understand that Swann and Qsee are rebranded Hikvision and Dahua which seem to be respected brands. Not sure about Lorex or Advertx. Anyways, I am also considering building my own system. At this point it is very hard to see any advantage to that. Especially when you price out some of the parts? Any advice would be great. thanks

Thanks for the input guys...much appreciated. The good thing about Costco is their return policy is "second to none".

Have $3000-$4000 to spend. This is for a 5000sqft store. Will probably end up starting with around 8 cams and slowly adding 8 more. Combo of bullets and domes. All indoor and no real need for night. Will need cell phone access. Wiring is not an issue since there is a drop ceiling. Suggestions appreciated.

Great point. But I wonder if these systems are pretty good quality equipment and have the best warranty then why do some many people (on these forums) design their own systems? What is the advantage to building your own?

If you were going to piece a system together is it better to do a PC based system or buy a stand alone pvr? Also, I may be looking on wrong sites but piecing together 8 cams and a 16 channel PVR plus all cables etc for that price seems to be a challenge.
