Need Help with Fuse for Napco Power Supply
mr.surveillance replied to fas's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Remember a $95 part will always blow to protect too large of a fuse. Did you get your fuses, are you up and running? -
How did you make out? Did the 500ma regulated supplies do the trick? Nuvico recommends a 1 amp regulated supply.

The Police here in Alameda seem to like the JPEG 2000 machine I think its a combination of the 1 to 64 X search jog shuttle knob and the evidence CDs it produces. I will PM you with an IP address so you can remotely play with the G4 LTA.
-
I've only sold one G4 LTA and the customer was very happy with it. They remotely view when they vacation in Mexico. For the budget you stated this should give you the most bang for the buck. In my store I use a JPEG 2000 machine, however the remote playback speed sucks. If you wanted to increase your budget take a look at the dual codec machines, (JPEG 2000 with H.264 over internet) made by ARGUS and is sold by one of the advertisers in the banner at the top of the CCTV forum page. They named the recorders after a former penitentiary located in the SF bay.

hard drive failures - help!
mr.surveillance replied to sloweddie's topic in General Digital Discussion
I can hardly wait for the new solid state hard drives to become avaliable at a reasonable price and with more GBs. Samsung makes them but they are expensive and are of too small capacity for our use. BTW one of my computers is making that click of death noise so I opened it up and there was a WD inside. The computers last words "ker click, ker click, ker click, ker click" And of course nothing was backed up except for the evidence cd's from the customers DVR's. -
hard drive failures - help!
mr.surveillance replied to sloweddie's topic in General Digital Discussion
sloweddie said: "there are so many fans the dvr could levitate off the desk" Yeah, my main office computer sounds like a small vacuum cleaner and it still requires annual HD changes. The other thing I forgot to mention, the older maxtor HDs consumed more power than the other brands and were problematic. The early Argus stand alone DVR's required a second power supply if you were running more than one maxtor of 250 GB or higher. Flowing fans, good stable power, good hard drives and a small prayer. Good Luck! -
ever use a remote control car to run cabe??
mr.surveillance replied to rdawg's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I had one but it was stolen from a jobsite. A modified Radio Shack Ford 4X4 PU with a cheap cmos wireless camera, extra large knobby tires, misc. snap hooks and accessory lights. If you make one be sure to teather it. They will sometimes get stuck and are not always easy to retreave. There great in suspended ceilings. Always drive at a safe speed limit! -
Sunlight, Image Sensor Damage
mr.surveillance replied to ClintF's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
In my opinion, for what its worth your camera suffered from what I call "RANDOM FAILURE"... Unless you have had a bad power surge its just one of those things that happens. I've had cameras that get almost direct sunlight in the morning running for years, a few of them have been compromised but there still functioning. OR: Illegal Ailens, (possibly Klingons), from another planet are messing with you and zapping your camera with their phasers. Feel free to pick the best answer. -
How to order parts for a GEN IV Digital Video Recorder?

hard drive failures - help!
mr.surveillance replied to sloweddie's topic in General Digital Discussion
Try the Seagate SV35 series, I havent had any failures with these yet. (knock on wood) How long between failures on the ones you have been using and what kind? Have you checked your power supply to see if its starving the drives? I used to use WD IDE drives but had a high failure rate, usually after 3 to 6 months they would just make a clicking noise. I had one last almost a year then switched to Seagate and have had less problems. Good Luck! -
Re-worded Bablefish translation: Спрошенное Rory: "руководитель; вы имеете соединение интернета в вашем лагере?" The original text going from english to russian then back to english reads: "You Internet gat in the leader of camp dat?" Sounds painful to me! Re-worded: Asked Rory: "leader; you have a connection of the Internet in your camp?"

New Home System Design Recommendations Needed
mr.surveillance replied to highspeedphysics's topic in System Design
Disadvantages of a PC based unit; Your neighbor or friend trys to watch internet porn on it Your Kids play video games on it Your cat eats the mouse. I think you need to allocate more funds for your system. Get a 16 channel DVR so you can expand later. You are on the right track to have 2 fixed cameras next to your PTZ. Do you really need a PTZ? -
Chuck p, Nuvico says 12 volt 1 amp supply (regulated). Are you using a regulated power supply? If you are not sure measure the open circuit voltage to see if it is between 11.8 to 12.8 volts, (typical of a regulated supply), if it reads over 13.5 volts it is probably not regulated. Many un-regulated supplies will check 18 to 22 volts with no load. Since you are having the problem when the IR is on it makes the power source suspect as the camera draws more current with the IR on. OR your power wires are too small and it is starving the camera when the IR is on. Check the voltage when the IR is on at the source and at the camera (camera connected) you should have a minimum of 11.2 volts at the camera. Are your cameras, connections and cables at least 12" away from AC or other power wires? If this is of no help can you post pictures of the affected screens and tell us what type and how long your cable is and what the cameras are mounted to.

Need Help with Fuse for Napco Power Supply
mr.surveillance replied to fas's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Yes! Your power supply is rated 12 volts, so a fuse with a 32 volt breakdown rating is fine. The current rating is what is critical in this particular application. The ATC fuse is easier to replace if you get an ATC fuse puller! (available at most automotive suppliy stores) You are probably going to have to buy them online as most automotive stores don't carry this type fuse in anything lower than 5 amps. That 250 volt rating is incorrect but probably applied to earlier models that had glass fuses. This place lists them! http://www.steinair.com/fuses.htm -

Need Help with Fuse for Napco Power Supply
mr.surveillance replied to fas's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Is it a plastic ATC automotive type? If so the plastic should be black in color for 1 amp. The 1 amp is not a very popular size, however in my previous life I saw them in car audio equipment. Search: 1a atc fuse on the web, they are out there. I hope thats what your after. -
cctv_down_under It looks like Argus of Korea, the AIO series re-labeled & sold by many. Their website: http://www.arguscctv.com/ I've sold and installed their jpeg 2000 machines. The Police here like the evidence CDs made from these, however remote internet playback viewing is too slow, live view is fine and direct from the machine has been excellent. I've never ordered or sold the machines with the built in lcd so can't comment on them.

Here is a link to the LTA manual : http://www.cctvdealers.com/customer/intsys/support/LTA%20User%20Manual.pdf The G4-LTA seems to have the most bang for the buck of what is currently out there, and plenty of bells and whistles too. The record time varies to the Hard Drive size and the speed and quality you setup to record. If you are using motion detection mode and do not have a lot of activity a smaller Hard Drive should suffice. For small business I usually prefer the ARGUS JPEG2000 machines. The Police Departments seem to like the evidence CDs the units make however the internet speed sucks if you try to play back from a remote location. (These are larger and more expensive) I dont think this is what you want for residential use. The LTA has good internet speed, (depending on your internet provider), so if you go on vacation you can view live or play back via the internet. Sanyo makes good products too! I hope this information is helpful.

Splitting Moniter feed 6 ways
mr.surveillance replied to Cablemonkey's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
It sounds like you are using a CATV/MATV amp which is for RF and not video. How you have gotten any of this to work is a mystery to me. You need a video distribution amp. Also; is your coax for CCTV? ie: 95% copper shield or are you using CATV cable. CCTV works best with copper shielding. Good luck! -
A possibility in your price range! Do an internet search for best price. G4-LTA H.264 DVR; its a 4 channel networkable pentaplex unit and if using the motion detection feature you can adjust pre-motion record from 5 to 30 seconds and post motion record from 5 seconds to 10 min.

I sold DVR C last year; MPEG4 16 channel, one had a PS failure after 3 months, other than that the restaurant around the corner has 2 and they have been in service for about a year. Not a bad machine for MPEG4, fast remote viewing, fair picture quality. This is a discontinued model. I'm not familiar with the other two DVRs
