Basic newby questions: If you have a 12mm camera pointed at an area over 20m away and someone steps into the line of the camera only 4m from the camera, will the camera give a good shot of that person? would the shot of that person be better the closer they are to the camera?

Anyone? Help!

Hello I am looking to get a CCTV system for my home which has security vulnerability from the public footpath to the side of our home and the street to the front of my home. I have chosen hikvision ds-2cd2332-i 3mp cameras. I wish to record direct to hard disk, please advise which other items I would need in addition to the cameras? I would consider having 2/3/4 cameras. Please take a look at my amateur design layout for the viewing angles for just 2 cameras, would 2.8mm be best for the driveway? would 6mm for the rear-side footpath get enough detail if the intruder jumped over the fence near the camera or far away from the camera? I need your help to decide on where is best to site the cameras and which mm would be best for cameras at these angles?
