I don't know terribly much about CCTV systems but I'm pretty handy with computers so I'm hoping that skill would come in useful here.
Anyway I have a Samsung SDE-4002N CCTV system in which the DVR has kicked the bucket. http://www.samsungsv.com/Product/Detail/53/Samsung-SDE-4002N-8-Channel-DVR-Security-System
It uses UTP/RJ-45 cameras, and I would like to know what my replacement options are or do I have to get another Samsung DVR. From my limited research, it seems I might be able to get away with a bunch of BNC Baluns and any regular DVR should work. Is that likely to be correct? Is the wiring a standard thing or is it possible that the Samsung cameras are wired in a different way?
Basically, would I need one of these for each of the cameras? http://www.cctvsecuritypros.com/pavibawipo2r.html
As far as the specific problem with the Samsung DVR, it's keeps throwing a "HDD not installed" error message. The drive has already been replaced once, and it worked for a while but then started showing the error again. I put the hard drive in my PC and can find absolutely nothing wrong with it. No bad sectors or SMART errors. I can read all the files with no problem. To be honest I never even tested the first HDD, I just assumed it was dead and tossed it. It probably was just fine. I reset the unit to factory settings and it worked for a while, but it's back to the same problem. No amount of resetting is working this time.
Thanks for any help!
