Hi,
I'm trying to figure out a low-cost camera option (better than fake with blinking light) for a rental property. The motion light on the detached garage has been stolen multiple times, (near an alley, at head height, no there isn't a better place to put it that's useful) I'd rather stop spending time and money replacing it and I'm sure the thefts are worrying the tenants.
The issues are:
1) The detached garage is a good 30 feet from the house, which is the nearest place high enough to make it hard to steal a camera/light.
2) There are tenants who are responsible for internet, so I need something that records in a way that is not dependant on their wireless networks (easier for me, less intrusive for them).
Things I have:
1) Power: sockets in the garage and a now bare spot where a motion light was wired (the caps are still on the wiring, so either it was a considerate thief or the light was taken off perfectly), as well as a motion light a story up on the back of the house that has a straight line down the side of the garage to where the light was stolen
2) A tenant-free room in the basement where I could put a DVR/Harddrive to record things that has electricity and could probably have cable run into it.
What I was thinking:
1) Set up a camera on the garage that could wireless broadcast a signal to a DVR (I've seen ads setups that broadcast to its own router to record/display on amazon but no idea if they're any good), either with the hardwiring where the light was, or adding it near the light in the garage
- this is the thing I was least certain of productwise
2) Replace the light on the back of the house with a camera/light combo that would record the side of the garage and back yard
- If I can't do 1), this would need to take good images at 35+ft
Any recommendations on good product, or alternative solutions would be really appreciate.
Thanks
