Do I still need to run baluns on the cameras, or does the hub take care of that function?

Some add-on of some sort? [/img]

Isn't it a contradiction to have a WDR camera but use it with a standard lens without auto-iris? Specifically, I'm referring to this KT&C INdoor WDR dome: KT&C WDR dome It comes standard with the 3.6mm board lens (FOV is perfect for my application actually) with the vari-focal are optional. Anyone tried something similar before? How much am I losing by cheaping out on the $60 lens upgrade? It will be watching a service counter with a glass (outdoor) background. The application is: -outdoors (Canada, so relatively extreme weather) -wall-mounted (no eaves/soffits available) -low light, but not no light (monitoring a parking lot that will be flood-lit at night) so IR is not necessary, distance will likely be too much for IR anyway -vandal-proof -true day/night would be nice -budget: under ~$250 I have used [edit by mod- store link removed] Speco VL-6WMTDV before, which is nice in the sense that no additional hardware was needed to wall-mount. Pretty blind low/no light though, and mediocre resolution. Looking through more Specos, the [edit by mod- store link removed] HT-650IRVFHQ looks like a pretty good value, with IR as a bonus. I also see a high-rez version of the one I've been using: the [edit by mod- store link removed]HT-8WMTDV And finally, an EXview dome: CVC-7245EXTP [edit by mod- store link removed] I've also read good things about the [edit by mod- store link removed] Nuvico CV-S on this forum. Specs look good too. Also looking at [edit by mod- store link removed] KT&C vandal domes? They have a Super-HAD model, an EXview and even a WDR model within my price range. Plus they come with the hardware to wall-mount. Any advice, opinions, suggestions or experiences will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is the hardware (card) any different between say, a GV800-8 and a GV800-16, or a GV1120-8 and a GV1120-16? I noticed both 8-port and 16-port versions have 2 D-SUB ports, but 8-port versions only come with one of the connector. Can the 8-port cards be upgraded to 16-ports at a later date simply by purchasing another one of those D-SUB cables?

Does GeoVision have a function to do scheduled restarts of itself, without rebooting the whole system?

What model of KT&C domes were you using, and why are you replacing them? They are currently on my short-list ..

I'm on version 8 though, and mine usually doesn't crash until I've left it on for 24+ hours.

Add me onto the list. I'm on my 4th test PC and crossing my fingers.

What is generally considered a safe height for mounting regular/bullet cameras? I understand that they are probably of better quality than dome cameras, but I don't want them to be easily vandalized or "re-aimed"...

Yeah, I am thinking I will definitely go with vandal domes in sensitive areas indoors. However, my main problem lies with the outdoor cameras. I will be monitoring a large parking lot, and the building I will be installing the cameras on does not have an eave or bulkhead to hang domes from. (Domes can't be mounted sideways right? And that would cause major problems with weather anyway?) The building is about ~15 feet high though, so I have some height to work with if necessary. Any suggestions on what to do? Basically, it seems I need a day-night with auto-iris that is weatherproof and somewhat vandalproof... A lot of requirements to satisfy.

I am looking to building a DVR system for a car dealership in Toronto. It will consist of two separate systems (2 buildings) each with 8 analog cameras. Is there a Canadian distributor of GeoVision DVR cards to talk to? Also, any Canadian contacts for cameras and other accessories would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks!

Or at least, any of the sponsors here deal with Canadian customers?
