Rory, I know you don't rate Geovision, but their ANPR system would seem to be the best bet, especially as you already have the numberplate camera.

Why not look at biometrics. If the customer has a good budget then you could get a proper clocking in/out unit with a fingerprint reader, this is simple to use. These systems are not so expensive now & most have programs to work out the guards hours etc. These are available for about £600.00 in the U.K, but when I was searching for them I think I saw them in the US for under $500.00 .

Advice needed: single IP cam, outdoor, already have a server

Could you use a usb video grabber & software (available in the UK for about £35.00, don't know about U.S. This allows you to use any camera & has motion detection, remote monitoring etc. Sounds like the simplest & cheapest way to me? -
is xvision the same as geovision

Geovision is available as an oem product, allowing you to add your own name such as xvision. This version does come in a plain white box. Xvision looks to me like Geo but the gui has been changed. If I remember correctly xvision used to have the same gui as Geo but with a red border. -
Hi Can anyone tell me how to get £ signs & how to program for alarms such as no sale? We have the pos working & recording the cash register settings & we can find no sale etc by serching the pos log but they don't come up as an alarm list.

State Workers Union an issue - CCTV

Here in the U.K. we put cctv cameras in public libraries, community halls & other public areas for various local goverments (town councils etc). These are covered by staff protection issues & the need for the employer to have a " Duty of Care " for their employees. Don't know the legalities in other countries. -
Make sure you have change the record setting for that camera from round the clock to motion detection

Depends what you want to see? If you want to view & control the computer from your living room then you need another option. If you just want to view the computer screen then the PC sender is O.K and the images are quite good. We have customers who use it to monitor what their children are doing on the Internet from their living room TV.

Sorry that should be: http://pcsender.net

look for a device called PC Sender. http://pcsendr.net

Hi If you are using Merit Lilin domes, why not use the IP ones (they are not much dearer) and run in an extra cat5 cable (cheap enough) then you could network them as well. We did this with some in a school & the head can ptz them to selected areas (catch smokers etc) independently of the Geo system. He likes this independence. The baluns that we have used have all been unbranded (they all seem to be made by the same company in Taiwan) they have the same part number whoever we get them off.
-
Hi We use utp with passive baluns over this distance with no problem. If you have electricity at the camera end why not use active baluns & be sure.
-
What about a Merit LinLin IP based speed dome, available quite cheap in the U.K. & probably vheaper still in the U.S. If you need price PM me.

You could link up the IO from the Geo to a car windscreen washer pump & pump a pretty powerful little jet of water.

Hi The modulator will put the image on a channel as an RF signal. If you connect this to the aerial amp it will distribute it to all the tvs. It doesn't matter if you have the broadcast signal or not.

Hi We sometimes use a device called a VGA Cat5 extender. I have attached the specs below (in blue). You can have up to 2 monitors each end. There is a similar product that will also extend the kbd & mouse down the same cable, but I need to ask my IT guy about it. Sometimes we've extended the kbd & mouse cables to put the wireless receiver nearer to the desired position. We have found that some of the cheaper units outperform the dearer ones, again I need to speak to my IT guy. VGA CAT5 Extenders (approx £65.00 without sound) These boxes allow you to send video or video and audio data along a CAT5 cable to a pair of monitors up to 150m away. This makes them ideal for use in shop displays, exhibitions or information points where access to a computer is not required or is a security problem. Works up to 150m away 4 position distance equaliser for optimum signal Supports resolutions up to 1024x768 Use standard CAT5/5e/6 unshielded cable as the data link Available with or without mono audio facility Standard 15way Hi-D male input and 2x 15way Hi-D female outputs The audio version uses 3.5mm sockets for input and outputs RJ45 sockets for the CAT5 cable Powered by ac adaptors No operating system required Dimensions (HxWxD): 20x104x70mm Contents: Tx, Rx, 2x ac adaptors and user guide

If you mount the cameras so that the light source is behind them, should be easy with eaves monted lights, then they should not effect the camera performance.

What do you want to view remotely, certain cameras or the complete screen from the Geo machine. If you want to view the complete screen on a TV/monitor you can use a wireless unit called PCsender. This has a transmitter that connects between the computer & monitor & a receiver with an AV output for the Tv end. These work very well & people also use them to monitor their kids on the Internet.

Happy & prosperous new year to all.

Hi Fiona Sounds like you've got it in the right jack (yellow is video) but you are trying to tune it into a TV channel (iv been thru vhf1 vhf3 uhf trying to tune it in, receiver has a tunning knob on top im turning it whilst scanning trying to tune it into tv but i just cant do it,, do i need a monitor or diff tv?) You need to use the remote control to change your "video input" setting to allow the picture to taken from the phono input. This might be on the remote as AV, Imput Select, or maybe go to channel 1 & press the channel down button. When you have the AV input you will see a blue screen instead of a snowy one. If it is a modern TV you may have maybe 3 x AV inputs each time you press the remote you will see the AV number on the screen. When you get the correct one you will see the picture. Hope this helps.

Very glad to hear your sister is safe. It must be a nightmare, not being able to get news about loved ones in this type of disaster?

We have used monitor cables up to 25 metres long, combine this with a good wireless keyboard & mouse & it should keep your customer happy.

If you are able to hide a battery in the ceiling, why not use a wired camera & small digital walkman in the ceiling? The small dvrs use hardly any power & will record for up to 40 hours. If you are in the ceiling, why not tap into the mains electrc & you could use any type of dvr. We often do this for POS monitoring with lokdown smoke detector.

Merry Christmas to everyone.

Forget clock cameras, people always play with clocks, even if the time is just seconds different to their watch. Smoke detectors are probably the easiest to get away with introducing into a workplace, any questions can be answered with insurance company asked for them. Power is always a problem for this could you get away with a box file or Corn Flakes sized boxon shelf? What type of period do you need to record for, at a stretch?
