Somtimes you get the pink screen if the resolution setting in Geovision is different from the resolution setting in Windows.

Hi We've used cat5 over the distances mentioned to run 10 x speed domes & 6 x fixed cameras around a transport yard. Some of the Cat5 cables we've used for 3 x speed domes & telemetry & one has 4 x video signals for fixed cameras. We merely solder jointed the cables together in a waterproof enclosure. Been running about 1 year now with no problems or interference (touch wood) Power supplies for cameras taken at camera end. In some places the cat5 runs together & I was worried about interference, but none.

Yes we tried the 4 camera usb device from ame quite a while ago & were not impressed. The image quality was useless & the distributor we had it off stopped importing.

When we have used bullets with built in IR we have had big problems with spiders making websover the front. This makes no difference in the day but makes it useless at night when the I.s switch on & refect back from the threads. Anyone else had this problem? We now usually use seperate IR lights & bullets which gets rid of the problem.

All I see is Geovision Information Here
baywatch replied to IPSecurityPro's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
The main reason that most of the posts are about Geovision is because this is a system used every day by installers. We install between 150 & 200 systems a year & we need to give our customers reliability & ease of use. Geovision is generally reliable & we can teach the staff of a small shop or office to use it quite easily, many of these people have never used a computer before. I agree that Geovision is not perfect, we used to use Avermedia systems which we prefered & which gave a better image but they did not have all the features of Geo. Also they started to crash after about 3 or 4 months use (by then we had installed quite a few) & their tech support was useless. This put us in a difficult position & we replaced all the units with Geo models. All our old Avermedia cards have since been back to Taiwan for alterations & new software & we have now started to test them again. We have learned the lesson on only using tested equipment for customers & when you have 2 or 3 Geo systems in a chain of maybe 20 shops (we supply local Burgerking etc) then its much simpler for us & them to use the same. -
Geovision login problem
baywatch replied to CCTVINSTALLER's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Because of the problem with corrupting files & the possibility of power cuts, people unplugging etc we now fit all our systems with UPS. These are quite cheap now & have saved us a lot of time (& customer goodwill no callout charge) by allowing windows to shut down properly. They also act as anti-surge units. -

Hi I haven't tried this myself. Try this site, they have a support section & FAQ page, maybe it can help you. http://www.avermedia.com/index.asp If you still get no joy let us know & I will try to find the tech support e-mail address in Taiwan, I've got it somewhere. -

Hi We have used the one that Rory has posted the pic of with the 40 Gb Hdd, it is a really useful unit & will record for 4 hours on its own battery & up to 40 Hours if connected to 12 or 230 volts.

We used to deal with Norbain & some of their offshoots. We found them very hard to deal with on returns & so started using smaller distributors. This was the best thing we ever did as we now have excellent suppliers who appreciate our business (+ the fact we pay on time). This makes them give us very good service. We also purchase off smaller manufacturers directly. AsCoperman writes, tell uswhat you are looking for & maybe we can help

One other thing about the camera, we are not using it for recording only as a viewing platform for people to get an idea of the area where Dylan Thomas lived. I think he wouldn't have liked cameras as he was quite a rebel, but he had a wicked mind so maybe he would have brought them into his stories. Under MilkWood with cctv?

How to mount a dome on ceiling tiles?
baywatch replied to cctvfan's topic in General Digital Discussion
You need to look for fancy shelf brackets for childrens bedrooms or living rooms etc. Here we would find these in a DIY store, I'm not sure about the USA, maybe a large department or furniture store. I don't think you will find them in a security store. Another thought, maybe a HiFi store has suitable small speaker brackets? -

I've registered the camera as a tourist aid (the pub its on was used by a famous poet & drinker called Dylan Thomas) and it should be exempt from the data protection act (hopefully)

baywatch replied to cctvfan's topic in General Digital Discussion
If we want to wall mount small domes we use some small L shaped brackets that are marketed in the U.K as "bookends" by B&Q stores. They are sheet steel, come in black, silver or ivory & cost less than £4.00 for a pair. Its not worth the effort of making them at that price & they look professional. If you are not in the U.K perhaps you can find something similar -
Yeah Cooperman, sorry about the time, you can't get the staff these days.

Hi We have a Merit Li-Lin IP speed dome at http://uplandstavern.servebeer.com:8010 username =demo password = 123 There is also a demo site in Taiwan at www.meritlilin.com Their site is faster than ours because our network is very busy & I think they have a much faster connection.

Hi Anybody know if earlier versions of Geovision can be updated to 6.1 or can it only be used with the new cards. I am asking because even though it has been released the Geovision site still only has downloads for 6.05.

We can supply good external housings with hinged lid & IP56 rated. They can have either 12/24 volt heaters or 240 volt heaters but don't have a fan. We have used them for many years, we are right on the Atlantic coast and anyone who knows our part of the world (Swansea) knows how much rain we get. If you want details & prices let me know, their not expensive.

If you use good quality RG59 and power the cameras locally, as already advised, then there should be no problem over these distances.
