All Tape Recorders will be gone within 6 months
baywatch replied to CCTVKING's topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
You only need to look at the domestic market (here in UK) go into the biggest electrical retailers & you will be hard pressed to find a vcr. Some of the biggest names have stopped stocking them entirely. -
I have dealt with Huper directly & 2 years ago they were telling me the same. I think the Huper people may even be X Geo employees. What are the Geo problems they experienced.
-
If you are talking about a system with 300 cameras then I would put your hand in your pocket & invest in a system that you know will work properly.
-
I've tested the card for the PC based system a few years ago & it was stable enough, it also controlled a Lilin PTZ o.k. We didn't change to them as we had a lot of customers with Geo already. Depends on pricing I suppose, but I think they are an established outfit (they were at the last 3 Ifsecs) Had an e-mail from them 2 weeks ago about new system huperVision (4000 Series) don't know anything about it tho. http://www.hupervision.com/

If the work is to be done when the house is under construction then the domestic markup that I mentioned above doesn't really count. Rory is right about modulating the system to a TV channel. Maybe a good idea to run some extra cables from the dvr location to the attic to allow for any future expansion that may be needed.
-
PTZ cameras have their uses and can be quite effective when controlled by contacts or sensors to zoom in on doors or gates etc. As Rory states they are best when manned but they can be effective in slowly touring large areas if its not easy to put in multiple cameras. Usually it is more effective & cheaper to put in more fixed cameras that have the advantage of not looking the other way as an incident occurs.

Domestic systems are usually more expensive than commercial installations due to the working conditions which cost time. When you are working in a persons home you are expected to treat everything with more care than a retail / commercial install where you have false ceilings etc. I cannot coment on the equipment used etc as I am not in the US but I have instilled in my staff the need for a different work attitude in domestic installs & as such my domestic prices are up a little on my commercial installs.

Seeking PC Based CCTV Lens and FOV Calculator
baywatch replied to rrs517's topic in Security Cameras
What about this one for showing end users what they are going to see on a laptop. Easier than trying to explain how field of view narrows when zoomed in. http://www.software4cctv.co.uk/ -
We have built an 8 camera GV800 with a dsp card running version 7.0 software. Single camera screen is o.k. We have a problem with the 8 camera screen upwards, camera 6 is blue if its small, camera 1 is O.k.large, click on camera 6 to make it large & camera 6 is O.k (large) and camera 1 is bad small. When on 16 camera screen, camera 6 tries to fill in all the vacant screens. When dsp is turned off system is o.k. System is in pal We built 2 x identical systems & the other isgood. Anybody had this?

Happy Birthday

Hi Steve They are not a bad camera for the money & sold by many U.K. suppliers. LJD however have a reputation for bad returns policy and virtually no support.
-
Just tried a 3 metre (10 foot) vga cable extn with an 8 camera Geovision & it worked fine. Great tip Sal, can't think why we haven't tried it before. Could make installations much easier/neater in suspended ceilings with just the vga cable to bring down into the office. Top Tip!

Most important feature/function of a DVR.
baywatch replied to kandcorp's topic in General Digital Discussion
I think he most important feature of a dvr ( & cameras etc) is that it suits the customers needs (especially pricewise) reliably. It is no use trying to sell a state of the art system with bells & whistles to a small kebab shop owner who is primarily interested in cheapest possible installation. -
Does anyone know why the GV-1240 would not show me ...
baywatch replied to iwatchlive's topic in Geovision
We've built a couple of systems with the 1420 card & none of them even show the AGC button, I don't think its in the software. Has anyone been able to find it? -
If your really desperate try this. http://www.seemans.com/banish_spiders.htm

We use Merit Linlin domes & there is no problem with the touring locally on site. With the remote viewer however there is a big problem built into the software. If you stop the tour remotely to zoom in or pan to an area of interest there is no way to restart the tour remotely. This means that the tour can only be restarted locally. We have reported this to Geovision on several occasions over the last 2 years including twice personally at Ifsec but received no joy.

I need CCTV for a Gas Station
baywatch replied to jmess's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I would be interested to see these cameras to. -
We use Linlin 26xzoom Day/Night cameras to cover 4 pumps wide on a motorway services. The area is very brightly lit 24/7 and we have never had a headlight problem as people normally turn their lights out when they get petrol. Again we only use this to capture number plates at the pump for drive offs.
-
We only use the ptz to capture number plates for drive offs. We have a conventional cctv system as well for the other eventualities. We find it works.
-
In petrol service stations we have used a single ptz to cover all the lanes (depends on positioning). We install a linlin day/night speed dome in a suitable position (usually on the front of the shop) and set a tour of the pumps with the lens suitably zoomed in on the plates. If the complete tour takes from 30 sec upwards then anyone putting any amount of petrol in will be recorded in case of drive offs. This is an economical solution if the main problem is drive offs.

Try these people, http://www.aver.com/ they supply all types of multimedia products. We have used some of their units successfully.
-
The unit we use is only for budget or covert use, the image quality is acceptable for this and the motion detection software that comes with it is useful. Why do you need 60 fps for cctv? If you require a higher quality image then you will need better equipment.

Here's the link to the Grandtec product. http://www.grand.com.tw/en/product_form.asp?lwk_series=52&lwk_product=f-020&lwk_page= We have been using them with IR bullets for low budget domestic 1 cam situations & the customers seem satisfied. We have also used them for fast covert installations in some small business situations where people have been messing with the computer.

The rods are the way to go. They will pay for themselves in the first job. If you haven't got rods use plastic trunking
