We have used a device called WalkGuard by Grandtec. These are cheap & cheerful with software that works ok.

Why not swap the camera out with one that is working perfectly & see if you move the problem to the new position. What is the image like in the day?

We use the dvr walkman devices described above, easy to use piece of kit, but if you are using it for prosecution use a time/date generator to keep the courts happy.

I'm with Bill, thanks Doug for a very interesting link. Les

Need inexpensive Day/night home surveillance camera/setup

We have used a usb capture device from Grandtec called Walkguard, this comes with motion detection software & is cheap but seems to work ok. -
I would still make sure you get rid of the eaves & siding when you change the cam.
-
If you can move the camera a lot nearer the target area then you will get better images, assuming the field of view is still wide enough & lighting levels are good enough.

Agree with mcs, perhaps you should get someone to build the pc for you as they would be able to prove each individual part good or bad.

Its amazing that a disaster in a rich country can end up looking worse than one in the 3rd world. Surely they can get the rescue workers & security in place, don't the US have paratroops? Its very serious when they cannot control the population & vulnerable people are dying while the goverment talks.

Hope that everyone in the hurricane area is O.K. Looks like a really bad situation on the TV.

If its desperate, turn off monitoring & it will save what has been recorded. You can then turn monitoring on again. A better method is to save in smaller segments as advised.

CCTV for a school. In over my head. Please HELP! Toronto
baywatch replied to Juke's topic in System Design
Like Levon said motion detection works really good in schools the recordings last for months on end. We have supplied quite a few schools with Geovision systems & if you have the knowledge & the spare PC bits this is the way to go. Also totally correct about the vandal resistant domes well worth little bit extra. -
CD R/W (DVD R/W) all that important?
baywatch replied to John_lin78's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Over here for a serious crime the police demand the uncopied evidence so they usually sieze the hard disc. We have been paid by the police on a few cases to replace the Hdds with new units & put the originals in evidence bags, all under police supervision. We have one ongoing murder caseat the moment. -
how to catch a child molester. Anyone?
baywatch replied to jisaac's topic in Digital Video Recorders
We have used these units very successfully, how many hours will you want to record for, you might need to provide another battery? -
Should try over here, over $7.00 a gallon.

Nice looking site. Les

There are some really paranoid people out there. If they think anyone has the time to watch them individually just walking down the streets they are crazy.

I agree with Thomas totally. So ugly they would frighten small children & horses.

I Agree Its good value for the price.

Hi Are the 3 cameras running down the same Cat5, what happens if you power down 2 of them? What voltage are the cameras and where are the PSUs located?
-
We have been using these C70 cameras from Rf, for budget systems for a long time & they are extremely reliable. As Bob says its a lot of camera for the money. Only real problem, spiders again.

Well done & good luck.

Anything with less than 1 years warranty is not even worth looking at.

It is good that cctv helped find the London bombers. When it was announced that the cctv on the bus was not working I felt really bad, now I feel a little better. Today's paper stated there are 4.2 million cctv cameras in the U.K, 250,000 in London & that we are all captured by 300 cameras every day.

Well it looks as if they have got the 4 they were looking for and every news program has been saying "caught the suspects seen by cctv". Even calls them bastards on the front page of todays Daily Mirror.
