Horizontal Lines in Video
baywatch replied to keefe007's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
We have had one or two situations where a very powerful ups has upset the computer monitor, moving the monitor just a few feet further away from the ups cured the problem. These were always in local libraries where they had Internet access for the public & the IT was done by themselves. We never bothered to investigate the problem further as it only happened in theses premises. Can cause much head scratching tho, 1st time. -

Horizontal Lines in Video

Could be a power problem? Sometimes you see these lines when a power unit is failing. How many cameras are you powerering from the 1 power unit & how big is the power source? Try powering just 1 camera to a monitor like Rory suggested. -
Try e-mailing this guy at the factory. jamesou@i-view.com.tw

We were looking at the Avermedia NV7000 card in the Ifsec show this week & have ordered one to test. The picture quality is stunning (this has always been an Aver +) the software we are going to test. Will let you know how we get on.

We used the EX10 units, colour with 8 & 12mm lenses. http://www.extremecctv.com/products/index.cfm?img=10

We have just completed an installation in the largest freezer in Europe (its massive). We used cameras from Extreme and their advice & service was excellent. As long as you budget for the special cameras there's np problem, but get your staff some thermals cos its cold work installing. Extreme told us that Maxwell House coffee use the same cameras as we have where they freeze dry the coffee & its constantly - 50.

We have been installing the latest Geovision cards with version 7.0 and I must say they are really good. We are going to test an I-view system next week and have also ordered the latest Avermedia card with hardware compression to test, will let you know how it goes. With Geovision you can get the backup in the U,K. with the others not yet.

The last card we used came without a dongle but with the version 7 software. Guess the dongle is only needed for upgrades. btw higher resolution makes a huge difference especially to enlarging recordings (can only speak for PAL)

You've got to go digital. We have a few hotels that use our systems, one has 48 cameras. They use the cameras for security & staff management, being easy to retrieve recordings is essential in a hotel because of all the strangers walking about. Staff issues e.g. leaving cleaning equipment, laundry etc in corridors can be easily supervised as can any vandalism. Personally I think hotels are one of the more difficult sites to protect.

We're going up Tuesday & staying for Wednesday. Head will be spinning & feet aching again.

Could try www.rfconcepts.co.uk they are good people to deal with. I'm nothing to do with them just a satisfied customer.

As long as you are not actively targeting a specific member of staff (hard to prove anyway) its totaly legal here to use cctv to monitor your business.

What I mean by staff management is not always theft. Any easy to use system can be used to monitor & improve working practices e.g. keeping corridors clear of bedding etc in hotels, how staff dispose of rubbish. I had a school recently where a roof repair company billed them for a whole weekend & they were only there 3 hours. These kind of examples of money saving sell more systems.

PC systems are useful where the management wish to use the cameras as a management tool as well as a security device. The flexibility of the extra features come into some use then.

Night club / late bar camera recommendations
baywatch replied to antdickens's topic in Security Cameras
As Rory said, we have found that you need good mono cameras for some nightclub work. We have also found the mono cameras handle any disco lighting much better. -

I'd like to have a look at it to scottj, could you pass it to me as well. Thanks. -
Either 1 - use 2 x modulators & set each to a suitable channel (he can then select which camera he wants to view). 2 - use a domestic 4 camera system such as System Q which has a built in modulator, power supply & the cameras cn be selected by a keyfob from anywhere in the house. 3 - Use a wireless PC Sender to send a picture of your Geovision screen to a single TV. 4 - use the vga card output option with a single modulator. 5 - the quad modulator option will also work. 2 x modulators will work.

Hi We are going to the IFSEC show later this month. Anyone recommend any new procucts that are worth going out of our way to view? Its such a big show that your head starts spinning. If I see anything I think is of interest to the forum I will post it.

Thanks Rory Good list. Not much choice out there, is there?

Both Avermedia & Lilin make Linux cards, but we have had Networking problems with the Avermedia units. We tested the Lilin card & it was stable & worked O.K. but when they gave us a price it was way to expensive. Avermedia sells to end users but I don't think Lilin does.

DVR Cards Pros & Cons
baywatch replied to MetzLyov's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Main reason we tend to use PC based cards is ease of repair (we do have a computer shop as another business). With most of the stand alones they are difficult to get repaired or the makers are difficult to deal with on warranty work (Norbain !) Also it creats work for the computer business. -
Advice please on camera types
baywatch replied to Secret Lemonade Drinker's topic in Security Cameras
Have you thought of using a PIR operated normallight with a standard small bullet camera. This would be the cheapest option. If it must be I.R. take a tip & don't use a camera with built in I.R leds, they can give major problems with spiders. Try http://www.rfconcepts.co.uk/ for cameras. -
