    ID of this unit please?

It has a badged name of Powerview., I was just wondering if it is a generic device and and anyone recognised it?
  6. OK, so the title has a lot in it..sorry. I have a PowerView 8 channel NVR that as of today lost its VGA output My fault in a way, but bad firmware in another, I should possibly not have done the Restore to Factory ..but that should not screw up the basics like VGA output Long story but to fault find and go back to basics I went to the WebGUI System management page and did a full System Restore..back to all defaults. (Having issues connecting new cameras, so thought if I start from scratch ..it would be better. That was a bad move, as immediately after reboot, the VGA output was dead. I tried three different monitors from different manufacturers, and when plugged in they all gave 'error' messages along the lines of Frequency Mismatch or Not compatible input or No Suitable Input signal found. The WebGUI page is accessible, I can see all the 4 cams, and the access via MyEye iPhone app is all working. just that the VGA output is dead. I can also Telnet to the box but have no idea what the root password is. or any password. I can get to the login prompt but that is it. One of the config pages has a Video output drop down box..but that is greyed out. Anyone come across anything similar? What might the likely base OS of the NVR box be ? Any idea of Root password? tried all the usuals, nut pwd admin etc etc ..long shot I know... and where the relevant config file maybe and what may need to be done to reset the VGA output? I have mailed the supplier and PV themselves but no answer as yet.
  7. I have a small stable yard with 6 horses. Also a couple of sheds and the yard I want surveillance on. All in a close area., the cameras can be mounted in and outside one central building, the stable block....but I want the NVR to be back at my house. The house is about 1km away and I already have a 5Ghz network bridge with solid 300Mbs connection from the house to the Stable block. This is via a Deliberant Point to Multipoint Network system with these devices APC-5M 90 at the house and a APC-5M-18 in the stable block. So I have good network access between the stables and the farm. I want the NVR at home for security and ease of my own access My current requirement is for two camera only ...but I want enough spare camera capacity so that should the girls in the stables want an individual camera in each of their stables to monitor their horses, they will be able to purchase their own cameras and add them to the system. The NVRecorder I was looking at was this one with one or two of these cameras externally to monitor outside Am I correct in thinking that I can connect the cameras to a switch , (via the relevant PoE PSU's for each cam) at one end of my network, and connect the NVR at another place on the network and it will pickup the cameras...either via manual or auto config of the IP addresses. I am sure what I am thinking is correct but just wanted to check first before I hit the buy button Also if any one had better suggestions, I'd be more than open to suggestions Thanks Neil P I
  8. Yes, i have seen posts regarding this. Not bought any yet...so no actual plans to intentionally mix them , but ...would have liked the most flexibility. wanton 8 camera system..but only buying 2 or 3 cams now. it is for a stable yard. so three external is enough, but for future expansion if any owners of the horses wanted individual cameras in the future.

    Port Forwarding

Can you ping the port device on that port?from outside? As well as port forwarding , there maybe Firewall rules too
  10. Ah, OK, thankd Wont need the PoE ports, as all the cameras are remote Thanks Not sure what cams yet, so need to ensure multi manufacturer support too.
  11. Sorry to hijack this thread, but since you have the very model NVR I was looking at getting maybe you can help. You say it has 8 PoE ports. does that mean that there are 8 physical Ethernet ports on the recorder and you run individual Ethernet cables to each camera. I am guessing that is the case, but want to ask for sure, as I cant seem to find a picture of the rear of these units. If, then, it does have individual physical ports, does that imply that you HAVE to connect each camera to an individual port? or can you just connect the NVR to the network via the router and a single Ethernet cable and then point the NVR to the IP adddress of each camera? thanks

    Port Forwarding

OK, a few questions I have. can yo log in to it remotely from a PC on the same network. If you can log in correctly from within the network, but cant log in from outside yout home, then maybe it is a case of needing a Dynamic IP addres setup. You may need to give more info before anyone can help.
  13. OK ,well with a Live CD, you can try out various operating systems first before installing g, most Live CD's I have tried have an install option, Windows is an OS designed for lots of uses, and is stuffed full of running background services that I just not relevant. Yes I know about disabling services and locking it down..but it is just all extra hassle. I was really after a standalone OS that is a dedicated OS for CCTV, i am surprised there is not more out there. The last update I have so far seen of the ZM Live CD distro is 30th June 2009. I have NAS4Free servers running here in a small spare attic room at the house. All headless systems totally run from remote webgui access. That is where I planned to install the CCTV unit ..be it a stand alone dedicated unit, store bought or a converted PC with a new OS installed. I guess I can configure a basic windows installation to run as a headless system ? with remote access...not used Win since Win XP..my only Win machine is now my Sony Vaio 2004 laptop with XP. The only version of ZM I tried was all installed as a Live CD, with install option as a package within the host OS, what ever it may have been. I was merely on the lookout for a quick solution. One alternative is just buying a store bought unit, plus git in to the network , go it its WebGUI congfig page and set itup. Happy to do that..but before i did wanted to see if there were any CustomCCTV OS's out there that I could try. I have access to large numbers of 'scrap' PC's, so banging in a Live CD of a dedicated CCTV OS is an easy option. If nothing available, then not a worry..but if you don't ask you don't get to know. Thanks for the replies, and sorry of the late replies, I have been busy with out door, farming , related stuff this time of year.
  14. Hi All First post..and yes I have searched for Live Cd based threads, but the search ignores the 'CD' part of the search and brings up hundereds of post related to live View of cctv images I had d/loaded a ZoneMonitor live CD, but distort watch not showing any others. Just wondered if any one had any pointers to other live CD's as I like the idea of a dedicated homebuilt hardware / OS setup. As way of explanation...though that is my main question above, I'll fill in with a bit about my requirement . And I admit it...I have not read all the FAQ's, stickies here yet..that is in the pipeline It is for a large private domestic / system. Only previous CCTV experience is a Inspire Black 4 cam setup for a local cafe. Cameras where in place i just had to instal a new recorder, set it up, setup a wifi hotspot for the cafe customers, No-IP DDNS , new router, network issues etc, so I know my way relatively well around a network. This got me thinking that I'd like a system for home. Well when I say home...I have a farm stable yard, and workshop area, all on private land I'd like to be able to monitor. Not come across the IP cam NVR approach, until I thought about it and asked my UK supplier OneStop CCTV about how I'd do my system over a network. It was them that mentioned the concept of NVR's to me My 'home' network is extensive. Main internet router, acting as DHCP, a Deliberant Point to Multi Point bridge network to three remote 'stations' over about 1200 meters. One of the solar powered. I'd thought about CCTV before but could not justify individual DVR's at each spot. Then the thought struck me. 'Hey , I already have a network in place.....ummm..IP cams...umm wonder what is out there. This is still my first week in to the research, so excuse me if I have missed something obvious. Regards Neil P
  15. Hi thanks I had not seen those before so will take a look , thanks, though I was tryign to avouid the 'software that runs on Windows ' route and go for a complete OS based / Live CD style setup. a csutiom Linux/ unix based CCTV OS distro. I had seen Zone ?? somethig or otehr a few years ago , but wonedered if there was opther similar distros available. Thanks for takeing th etime to reply though. I may yet jsut go down the direct hardware route, but wantt o explorre the options as there is not rush Thanks
