IMHO the AVerMedia EB1304NET is the best 4 ch standalone for the buck. from 8 and up I find the PC based Aver/GV more affordable for us if you need to keep the 30 fps recording.

pardon the ignorance, anyone mind explaining what will it be used for?

Hey falks, I have a system with about 200 cameras, I want to go with IP cameras but not sure if thats the right path. The question is if I need to have a strong internet line to the place if I want all these cameras, or if I only need my NVR and switch with lots of ports? none of these cameras needs to be connected to the Internet and they all will run in thereown LAN. I was thinking since all the network traffic is local only maybe my external line has nothing to do with the system, and I just need my switch to be able to handle all this data, but not sure I'm right can you chip in w/ advice?

who makes Macintosh remote client?
sinbad posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I had several Mac customers, all looking for a standalone remote client. so far we were able to get around with GV and their java solution, but was wondering if any vendor out there has a solution that anybody knows of? -
using state ID instead of proximity cards
sinbad posted a topic in General Access Control Discussion
is there any solution out there that will allow me to use a US state issued ID instead of prox cards? ( i know the state ID doesn't have the chip in it but want to scan each one of them in the magstripe.) -
check if the card has a sticker of GV on the chip instead of embedded logo on the . If you got the fancy box and fancy manuals its probably legit. the best would be if you could post a high res image of the card and people here can tell you if it's fake or not. We have an authorized dealer here who sells fake cards too under the table so you never know...

So how about a rundown for us newbies?

Keri systems has an online integrators program that you can learn from. http://www.kerisys.com/end_user_site/pages/services/eu-training.asp -
contact Lenel they'll give you a list of AVRs in your area.

I had several performance issues with 8.2 on killer PCs few times. we found that downgrading to 8.1 solved all of these issues.

u know this page already? http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/6_0_news.asp?stable=FAQ&sfiled=fsid&stable1=FAQG&sfiled1=fid&pno1=10&title=FAQ&gname=FAQ&pno=50

sure there is, close down all GeoVision related software and execute repair database utility from the Windows Start menu to rebuild the database files. make sure you close ALL GV stuff first. if you can't see the Repair Database Utility in your start menu search the installation folder. this applies to standard GV cards, not sure regarding the Video Server but I'll give it a try.

thanks for the replies everyone. especially for the diagram securitysys, appreciated. this was just an idea we were considering. after going through the #s we ended up with analog system will be more affordable for the customer. though I would love to do it IP still. too bad I'm not the one to sign the check

thanks for the quick reply, so what is it in the LAN that decides how many cameras (or better what is the device that decides how much bandwidth the LAN is goinf to have? when you recommend RCDD is it because of the network complicity of 200 cams or is there an additional device I'm not aware of?

Hi all, If I get an external modem from the list here to try and connect it to a GV system, do I need to pay to a dialup service provider or I just hook it up to extension from the regular house line? I know that for the GSM module i do need to pay, what's with phone alerts? thanks in advance.
-
thanks for the reply. I don't plan to connect the system with the modem, its already connected on a 6mb cable line. I only want to use the modem for alerts.

put some more juice to it. running GV with 256mb is a shame give it 2 gig each you'll love the difference.

*Iin case someone is following* I spoke today with Geo sales from the # on their website and was told that their LPR software works in the US except in Virginia because of their plates. *Hopefully* I'll know soon how good they work.
-
not to wake the deads but..... I was wondering if the GV LPR will work in USA or not ? why would it make a difference if it's US or EU plate?

Hi all, I'm having an issue with a 16Ch GV-1480 system. I have all the ports forwarded. I'm able to connect remotly with multiview, viewlog, POS live view, and everything work sweet. However, when I try to connect to the system from inside the LAN I can see the "compression selection" page and choose which way to play, but as soon as I login my user name & pass either 'Multiview' or IE getting stock and I have to terminate the process... Does anyone have an idea where should I start checking?
