I see some Baluns coming with pig tails on them for power and some not. I plan to power all cameras from one power supply. can I just connect a cat5 pair directly from the power supply to the camera or there is something going on inside the balun? thanks in advance...

thanks survtech for the chart. So (If I read it right the chart..) the max I can go with, for example, a 0.5Amp cam on 20AWG wire is 526 ft. I think most cat5 are 24AWG so my distance is a bit lower I guess around the 500 ft. Am I correct? and if yes what can I do to extended the distance? Does twisting 2 pairs of the 24AWG together gives me a 12 AWG wire? Thanks for the help. this is kinda new to me and want to make sure i get it right -

great thanks for the reply. what about voltage drop in the wire? should I still use 24v for longer distance? -

i'm talking about standard 24V analog box camera. I noticed Altronix have 12VDC and 24AC baluns, so was thinking I might need to pass the power through the balun as well. -
IMHO runing camera server on wireless connection is way too slow. even if you view the cameras one by one. better hardwire the box to the router/switch you have there. however that is not your problem yet, as you can't even access the compression selection page. you should see that even if you have dialup there. check your network setting. In our servers we leave the port default on 80 and not like in your example. if you use 8000 instead you need to adjust the settings in the web server dialog to match. if Dynamic DNS doesn't work try first with the external IP address. when you get that try again with DDNS.

If you need 16 CH you can get a 16 CH card without the need to stock them. GV also have 16 Channels cards. if you need more than 16 ch you can stock the Avermedia cards but not GV's.

I have an 8 CH GV1240. I want to upload to a remote server 2 of the channels while still recording them to the same box with the others . the GV box is on a cable lan so bandwidth is an issue. the way I was thinking on doing it is to get a GV loop card and attach these 2 channels to an Axis video server connected to the lan. couple Q's: 1. can I do that directly from GV without spending the $$ on the video server? 2. how would you do it? thanks in advance for any tips.

I Have GV-800 4CH system on this new built PC. 1 camera keeps freezing in live view. I tried changing the GV card with another, replaced the mobo, the power supply and made fresh install of XP again. wires are crossing over power cord at a single spot along the way but with 90deg. and 1.5 ft. clearance. The system is running fine after a reboot but the channel will stock again after few hours. Anyone have an idea what can cause it? I had to open the camera to flip the CCD sideways, could that be the reason? not sure because then why is it working sometimes? GeForce 7200GS 128MB P4 3.0GHz Nvidia 650i ultra mobo 1GB ram 500GB Maxtor XP Pro

Any ideaswhere/how to get a nicer external box cam enclosure? need something that won't be so out there yet not hidden TIA.
-
yep the hanging style won't work, however I found this wall mount: doesn't look like I can feed the cables in the bracket but I think I should look more, it's out there... I'm not sure about the reflection from the glass. thought I will use paint/dark tint to block the windows that are not in use just to hide the camera inside. how does a good camera records through DIY dark tint? this is getting fun. i'll end up with an external dome housing

This is for some very nice residence. I must come up with a solution that will keep the place nice. Cameras will be mounted 20ft above ground. what I'm thinking is to fit a box camera inside one of these suckers: I will need to use an upside-down interior bracket and to feed the wire nicely to the conduct. but I'm not sure how flexible my adjustments are going to be if I'm using 6-60mm lens with it. seems kinda tight there. also will need to find a housing which has a sturdy bracket so the camera stays in it's place when the next hurricane hits us

Thanks craig, I know this one. certainly better then the standard box. did anyone experiment fitting a box cam in an external lightning enclosure?

Hi all, facing the question of more than 32 cams on one system I was wondering if anyone can recommend/suggest a solution what are my options? GV only supports 16cams max, AverMedia lets me put 2 DVR in the same box but that's 32 cam top. I see some legendary 32-64 CH DVR cards on ebay, search for the seller "rshadman" did anyone have past experience with that system? the provided specs are pretty limited. what do u pros doing when need more than 32 cams?

give KT&C a try; they have good quality bullets IMHO.

Thanks Collin for the reply. problem is I need to wire additional 9 cameras for future needs. you are right they only support CIF. still i wonder how a small company could make these boards and put 4 of them on one PC when GV/AverMedia can't yet? So i guess if i want to give same quality to the client I'm looking at 3X killer rig with 3 GV/AverMedia boards in it connected with CMS? finally i understand why GV put developed Center V2

reminds me the army training we had to run with these masks for miles made me puke every time cool pic though

Looking for a 32 channel dvr solution
sinbad replied to kabukiUkie's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
did anyone hear/tried the solution of ebay store named "CCTV-Surveillance" ? (didn't post a link cause it's not allowed, hope what i did instead is ok...) I wonder if that's really work as they say, they have 99.7% Positive feedback so I'm asking myself if it's like they say.
