    Panasonic WV-CP484

well done.... this is a classic example of the shutter speed to low [motion blur] this is why I asked , few more lights may make it slightly better. [& crank up the shutter?] Are you using the f1.2 lens ?

    PTZ Protocol

do you have a 485 converter ? does it need one.? Database ? I can help with pana/pelco protocols are you writing your own ? If so you might need to reverse engineer them with an analyser. what models ?

    Need Avigilon cameras

sorry buddy im in Australia ! A google search will have 100`s of CCTV companies in the states that sell them !
  5. overkill for four cameras, but being MP you will need a strong G signal if you use WIFI. I would use 5 WAPS, 4x directional antennas and 1x high gain omni in the middle. [Cisco gear maybe] you'll need a wireless guru to set this up to work as it sounds like the sales guys are over selling to you big time. have they tried to sell you -your own satellite yet ?

    Thermal Camera and Fiber Optics

6m ? 6 miles ? I think your network will be made from switches and routers not fibre. using fibre to transport the "network" yes? single mode GB connections will do the trick. I like the idea of "thermal domes" you can get now. tho have not played with them. what software do you need ? [motion detection and heat alarms?] http://www.zmx.com.au/thermal.htm you could RADAR control the system then you only need a few cams and a high quality PTZ http://www.zmx.com.au/radar.htm Its expensive stuff but might give you some ideas.... z

    lux rating

All the marketing crapola aside, It comes down to experience and the saying "no light=no picture" anything under about 10lux needs lighting as a general rule even if the picture looks good the shutter will be slooooooooooooow And the guy that just robbed that store will be running ! matching the camera to the situation and lighting can be hard work. If you cant use heaps of normal lighting go IR the shutter will speed up and you will will have a much better image. Yes IP camera's tend to fib ! 1Axislux=100lux 1Actilux=10lux 1Arecontlux=2lux and so on ........

    Good IR illuminators

they might be cheaper but yuk ! they stand out, not black, and don't fit snug against the wall. Very limited options in freq's and spreads. some others you might like to try > http://www.microlightcctv.com/equipment/c/263/ http://www.axtontech.com/products.html I would go for raymax for sure! z
  12. Good choice, Im pretty sure the Axis gear is re-badged Bosch-extreme and rayled. Anyway the Axis gear is top notch. of course you might get it for le$$ from rayled. [raymax 50 or 100 model 5 angles to choose] http://www.rayled.com/infrared-illuminators.html Do you want covert ? is the next question. Does your cam have IR capability ?

    Image Sensor CCD vs CMOS

I used to hate CMOS but my D-SLR has one and the Mobitix cameras changed my mind. The Mobitix can stare at the sun all day and still grab a plate with no damge they can do some amazing stuff. They can de-fog a situation and see though to the other side. CMOS is catching up !
  14. Really moot these days with Megapixel and its only at the far end of the scale. Guess im a bit elitist because I only deal with mega pixel these days and don't waste time with low res gear. A color cam/IP/ANPR all have different pixels and sensitivities where a color cam might need 200 the ANPR cam can do it with less because of the sharp picture and contrast. At night different again..... Im sure the boffins have a formula You need to separate faces and plates. [plates are retro-reflective for a reason] >to grab $$$ from us. 61 in a 60 zone shame on you ! For example 'faces' these days have hoodies and BB caps so its the angle of the cam not the pixels. I would not design a system that has a narrow margin of pixels that's the old analog problem really. [where there was 300] even those days a tight shot on the choke point did the business. If your worried about pixels you have the wrong lens or the wrong camera. i feel all pixelated....
  15. Its only a piece of the puzzle, things like > Camera res correct lens ? shutter speed ? lighting sunlight ? IR ? filters ? angle ? DVR res DVR compression tons of factors for a good picture -if your missing any of these "the number plate" or face is gone. Number plate capture is a specialized field like black magic.! Most states have different types and colors of plates -and people put covers and mud on them. but to answer your N-plate question all the good readers have 16mm + lenses to get in close and synced IR illumination and very heavy IR pass filters. They make a bright headlight look like a candle. and the plate a perfect picture. [the regX is a good example] If its a well lit area a mega pixel camera with the right lens and angle can do a better job again -getting the plate-driver and car ! Even if the plates are fake you can see the driver and read the rego sticker ! my 2c
  16. Most PTZ cams with an "IR cut filter" will work well with IR illumination. some are called day-night. Ones with built in IR are usually very low on the food chain there are some quality exceptions like AXIS 213 with IR. You Have to be careful not to make the inside look like a prison -use low profile IR gear like "IR Puks". my 2c
  17. you could always just have a 16 Megapixel cam in the corner ! or some M22`s looking down
