CAN YOU SOLVE THIS PROBLEM? -NEW SYSTEM INTERGRATED INTO OLD
zmxtech replied to Delta 1's topic in General Digital Discussion
if 10 cams are down there's something really wrong ! No IP cameras ?? bizzzzzzzzzzzzare they actually want low res ??? If you installed IP cams it would be on a separate network there are lots of Hybrid solutions if you want to go that way. oh that guy is full of BS he wants to sell you HIS system ! get as many quotes as you can. some full replacement/some new system and some IP setups. As an example 650 pounds will buy 4 hi res IP cameras ! which can replace 16 analogs in some cases. z -
IP for sure More megapixel =less cameras In other words one day-night 3Mp cam might be all you need. those nanostations look good. I play with Cisco all day -its good stuff but expensive. A couple of these for the link back to base. http://www.ubnt.com/products/nano.php As for the camera we need more info on lighting, position etc oh there are a few companies selling integrated WIFI and IP66 /cam deals have a look at those also. this would be preferable if you don't have the expertise to glue it all together. z

You could use the Mobotix M12 day-night cam they have a DVR built in [8-16GB SD card] & waterproof. you wont need a LPR system with this 3mp cam. In motion detect mode threr will be enough space for months. -add a WIFI Access point for remote Access -very easy -can just pull the SD card -or log in via the ethernet port with a lappy z

Which of these would you get for indoor use?
zmxtech replied to Livin's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Some people don't like honest ? Here my B.S answer "Oh yes I like the second one its a nice color" I get so much business from people who bought cheap 'RUBBISH' from Ebay and find out the hard way you get what you pay for. There's a reason why a Real IP camera costs $500+ here, you get quality service, the MTBF is low etc etc. And most importantly they perform to spec's not to some made up poor inga-lish they copied from another site. Buddy I have 25 years worth of experience that tells me you should buy an Acti or Axis camera at least. oh by the way in a small 10x10 room those IR LEDS will white out everything thats not 3m away! my 5c -

Neighbor aiming camera directly into my backyard
zmxtech replied to SaturnR's topic in Security Cameras
A LASER pointer is the go but he can easily trace where it`s coming from and will probably do something nasty. What you need an IR LASER ~850nm and use a IR camera or NVG to aim it. [pulse it at 2-7hz for added viewing pleasure] Another option if its really pissing you off is to grab any LASER around 200mW + and burn the CCD out. make sure you wear a cunning disguise Those cheap and nasty green Ebay LASERs will do the trick dont stare into the beam ! -
Noisy picture on Axis 211 ?
zmxtech replied to phoenixr1's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
to the light meter batman..... what lenses are on them ? must be dark to go down to 1/30th ?? [like 10 lux] more light ! might be as easy as changing some bulbs or fluro's to higher power. from 40 to 60w globes for example.... or the color temp z -
not really, a few minutes. You can change the mac and IP with ease ! errrr so im told....
-
I did not see a cam outside at the front door ? this is where 99% of the action is. Have you thought of lighting up the front and rear with IR ? And I would add at least one IR barrier across the front to detect people, they are cheap and will give you good notice -even hook it up to a door bell. z

Acti 3401 IP camera freaky problem
zmxtech posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
just got some ACM-3401`s they work fine on the 192.168.0.X network which is their default soon as I change it to my test network 10.0.0.X\24 and hook it to up it works for 20 seconds then goes into DHCP mode [wireshark] and you loose the data stream. It's > not the supply not a faulty cable not the network not the software reset the camera to default just in case [latest firmware anyway] just does not like 10.0.0.X ! Any ideas ? [the ACM-1311n works fine on the same network.] must be a bug in the firmware......? -

21 Camera, AP, Network Project
zmxtech replied to cableguy's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
yes trying too hard ! I doubt it even if the packet is tagged you need a switch/router that can read it and give a higher priority 2 cams should be fine on a 54Mb link can you check for errors & CRC`s and all that on the switch ? z -

zmxtech replied to cableguy's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
try increasing the power of the AP to get the SN up or get better antennas you might want to drop the speed from 54 to 22 or 11 and see if that helps. You can FTP a 100mb file and work out the real link speed. A continuous pinger program can be useful for testing also. [they have a realtime graph.] z -

zmxtech replied to gadgetbest's topic in Security Cameras
Wireless DVR and Cams are rubbish that local electronics stores push out on mass. -
these are just IR cams they wont do a good job recording plates. [unless you heavily modify them with IR filters etc] even then the hours and hours of testing, trialing and mucking about wont be worth it. you need a good IP cam or ANPR camera like a regX etc z
-
Strong IR is "sales talk" same as "its got 200 piece LED go really far...." Main types of LPR I see today [besides $peed cam$] 1/ IR where you just get a BW pic of the plate but no information on the car or driver.-they work well tho [example "Bosch" RegX] 2/ the IP type that uses OCR to grab the plate, car and driver -sweet [example plug Visec http://www.zmx.com.au/numberplate.htm] the software is very expensive if you want to database it or control a gate etc. like $3500Au + But that's really cheap compared to employing a guard for 40k a year
-
Mirror them and put a separate fan on the drives otherwise if they get hot they will fail. don't like seagate either.. I have noticed over the years the drives last 1-2 years at most if your lucky and the warranties are getting smaller
-
200mA is not much that would be pushing the limits on a long run. I would be using 1A supply's at least. and> TDR the line, look at the DC volts on the line with a CRO to check for any hanky signals. z
